Like I said... It's not BAD, just disappointing and not in keeping with the narrative tone. It's unfortunate but the game was really fun and it doesn't screw it all up for me. If I"m being honest though I have to say that I'd prefer a different ending but I hated the ending of Eternal Sonata and I didn't hate the game by any means.

As far as the outcry about the ME3 ending, totally unwarranted bullshit, especially since some people got personal with the ME team when they are responsible for making a masterpiece of a game trilogy as far as I'm concerned. The ending was just a little disappointing that is all.

I'll never understand anyone who believes the ending to a game can ruin a game they loved up to that point. Someone told me that the ending of Eternal Sonata ruined the game for them. Same with the plot twist in Star Ocean 3. Never gonna understand stuff like that.

*Likes 99% of the game but one part of the game is bad and suddenly 10/10 game becomes 3/10*

Bullshit. lol

I hear you. My roomie at the time decided the same thing about Eternal Sonata even though throughout the game he was raving about character design (visually the plot point character development left a lot to be desired IMO), the music (because seriously how beautiful was it?) and the game play itself. It really bothered me at the time because when I decided to replay it he got all up in my grill about it and I had to be like "Come on, man. Do you not recall how much fun we had playing it together like a week ago?"

I haven't beaten Eternal Sonata yet but I can honestly say that aside from the stiff character animations the game is top notch. Music, gameplay, voice acting, story, everything. Okay, and I'm not particularly fond of RPGs that do the whole "Go up to x level and gain ability"

I prefer RPGs to let me abuse the system somehow but ES doesn't leave any room for that.

I was just so taken in by the adorable design of the world and the characters. Most beautiful sewers in the world in Ritardando, eh?

I was enthralled by the music I just loved it. I really like how the game changes with party level so it adds something else to shake up the mechanics so grinding doesn't become monotonous.

Eternal Sonata, it's the game about Chopin isn't it.

Not for PC system :(

And I totaly agreed with both of you guys, an ending cant completly spoil a game *troll mode on* FF10 was allready bad even before the ending *troll mode of*.

Even if it's unexpected, a bad ending cant erase all the good moment we had with a game.

I prefer RPGs to let me abuse the system somehow but ES doesn't leave any room for that.

To me Mass Effect is more a RPG for his story than for the customization.

You have to make important choices, and most of all you are working with character, some of them very interseting.

Personaly I made the whole Mass Effect 1 with Garrus and Wrex and I never changed. Why, kuz I just love them.

The way Garrus apply justice, and the way Wrex let his anger flow, it was an explosive coctail and I even had a few dialogue where I could feel the tension between them, and it was priceless.

For the same reason I enjoyed "Dragon Age origins" so much. The talking between your team can get realy unique, even more when your own sentiment get into the way.

Ps: The control seems to be more stiff when you nead to strangle someone, but the second Hitman seems to be fun too.

I liked Eternal Sonata all the way up to the rotating maze dungeon. I had to put the game down for a while because it annoyed me to no end. I just didn't have the patience for it. I'll pick it up again at some point. Maybe. Probably. When I feel like playing something that tries really hard to make you feel depressed and emotional and then gives you WALLS OF TEXT about classical musicians.

I have all three Mass Effects sitting there collecting dust right now. I really want to play through them from beginning to end but I can't seem to work up the interest. Something about the first game just feels off (and its not the whole shooter-RPG thing). I'm actually considering just skipping Mass Effect and immediately going on to ME2.

Favorite RPG/s (of this generation) - Resonance of Fate, Tales of Vesperia, NieR, Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger vs. Dark Death Evilman, Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP remake), Reckoning: Kingdoms of Amalur

Favorite RPG/s (that I've actually finished) - Parasite Eve, Arc the Lad

Played the Dragon's Dogma demo last night

Okay, gotta admit, the gameplay of DD is amazing. I was only playing the demo and in the griffin mission I seriously sprinted, jumped off of a small cliff and right onto the griffin's head and clung to it and took some damage. That was epic. Games aren't that into physics anymore so it's quite refreshing. Can't wait to get the game now.

My character looks like a bit of a seasoned warrior but my pawn? She's a little girl with red pigtails who could as easily be my character's daughter. xD

Some of the body-type presets were kinda scary though like the hulk arms for the girl and also the freakishly broad shoulders. lol

I went for a more petite, but slightly muscular, pawn.

Or maybe I'm just an ephebophile. Who knows?

I was looking into Dragon's Dogma a bit. It looks pretty good. I think I might be getting it, Capcom doesn't let me down too often.

This is really random but something was floating around my head the other night. How do you feel about adding RPG elements to a game? Like a first person shooter with levels to earn unlockables and what have for example. Does it really add anything or is just a cheap way to extend game play. I think personally it can go either way, it really depends on how its used. I can't think of any clear examples off the top of my head, but I know RPG's have been thrown into just about every other genre imaginable.

I have a lot of favorites <3 RPG's are a personal favorite as well. Final Fantasy VI, IV, VII, IX, Star Ocean the Last Hope, Paper Mario, Resonance of Fate, Kingdom Hearts and etc

If anything the best system in a JRPG in a while (to me) is Resonance of Fate.

Such a hard game but worth it <3

That and personal favorite soundtracks are mainly the final fantasy games. Particularly this track

I dunno, it kinda depends. I don't play a lot of games that add RPG elements too often. I know there's like Dirge of Cerberus but that comes from a series that's originally RPG anyway but then there's games like Bioshock that definitely did it very well. I suppose as an RPG lover I absolutely love it but as to whether it fits well or not I couldn't say. I mean Fallout 3 is practically a shooter with RPG elements but at the same time, if you play Fallout 3 like a shooter you are only going to run out of ammo because you can't aim as well as with the V.A.T.S. system.

Also, try the demo of Dragon's Dogma. It will be totally worth it. Just watching the game will not give you a feel for the physicality of the game. Being able to jump on enemies and cling to them and then pounding on them with your weapons is amazingly fun and satisfying. And you can transfer the character and pawn you made in the demo to the actual game so you don't have to make him twice!

I definitely agree about RoF. It's unique, epic, makes you feel like a badass when you utterly destroy enemies with scratch damage and then on top of that it's satisfying to just beat a single battle. I'm not one who usually appreciates difficulty, most of the time difficulty is just in the way for me (I could play a game and never die and not care, like with Okami, didn't die even once or even use the Astral Pouch in that game all the way to the end) but RoF is one of those very few games that the difficulty is easily appreciated.

Apparently the demo doesn't do the game justice. A couple of my friends have been going on and on about how fun the game is. Apparently you can trade AI-controlled team mates or some-such.

For some reason I remember Elemental Gearbolt as being one of the cooler RPG/genre games. Elemental Gearbolt was a RPG-on rails-gun game. At the end of each level you could put all the points you gained that level towards your high score or turn it into experience and level up your abilities.

I'd say the leveling system in shooters is to make the multiplayer last longer (that and leveling up can be fun. It can also be annoying, but overall it works.). But it allows people to show off their unlocks. And hey, you might not care about rank, but you still want that other player's gun/hat/equipment/camo.

Yeah, the pawns in Dragon's Dogma are made by you and then people can take a copy of your pawn for their game and use them in their quests. If the pawn has already gone through a specific quest then they can help out the other person by telling them where to go and how to defeat certain enemies. They are AI controlled but they are better based on what they've done and their equipment. When you sleep at an inn your pawn will come back to you from another dimension which means they were used by other people. This can also upgrade your pawns and the other people can change their equipment and everything. I've heard of people sending them back crossdressing to troll or because they sucked.

The thing is, the pawn never leaves your side, hence the copy being taken by other people. Your pawn stays with you all the time but can be used by others at the same time. When you sleep at an inn that's when they might come back to you saying they were back from helping others and that means someone was using the copy of your pawn. It's slightly complicated. @_@

Time for a necrobump.

I've been playing a lot of RPGs lately.

Replaying Wild Arms 1, still trying to beat Lunar: Dragon Song and kinda playing Phantasy Star II as well.

Wild Arms is the easiest RPG I've ever played, I'd say Kingdom Hearts II and WA1 can compete for easiest RPG in history. LOL

Lunar takes some getting used to but once you do it's definitely a decent game.

And as for Phantasy Star II...let's just say this game isn't easy. I had never played this series before but wanted to. I like the game sure enough but it's gonna take a lot of grinding to even get past the first dungeon which is kicking my ass every time I go into it. >_<

I'm replaying Heavy Rain. I'm Hoping for a different ending this time. I have been really out of it as far as gaming is concerned. I'd like to play WoW but I don't have any game time :(

O.o Heavy Rain is the farthest thing from an RPG.

I know it says "role-playing" and you are technically playing as a role in ALL games but RPG is a very specific genre. Heavy Rain is an interactive movie, not an RPG. (It was specifically stated by the developer that it was an interactive movie)

I know that. The last post was a cry for help. It was me saying "I'm playing HEAVY RAIN fellow RPG nerds. SAVE ME from this terrible RPG-less existence by suggesting games I can get excited about."

You know I really love RPG's but I feel like lately I just don't have the time to invest in them and really enjoy them.

Especially where JRPG's are concerned.

I have Cross Edge and Resonance of Fate sitting in my PS3 backlog, that I don't even want to touch becuase I know both are going to take me over 50 hours to beat. I really miss when I actually had that kind of time to put in.

If I had to play one genre and one genre only for the rest of my days it would be the RPG. xD

I would MAKE time for it.

So lately I've been playing same ol' same ol' and still trying to beat Lunar: Dragon Song. Underrated game is underrated, but for good reason at least as it has quite the learning curve and is pretty unbalanced in a lot of ways. Just got to the third continent and getting ready to go fight the Blue Dragon after I get through this valley.

It is so awesome! Probably one of the most underrated games out there right now

Well I'd say it's pretty well acclaimed, it just could be a little more well known.
