Why Didn't Nightmare Moon Return During The Longest Night Of The 1000th Year?

Nightmare Moon returned during the Summer Sun Celebration, AKA the summer solstice, where the daytime is at it's longest. But why didn't she instead return during the winter solstice, where the night would be at it's longest? Wouldn't that have made more sense?

That's a good point, actually. 

I mean, if you're going to ruin your sister's day, it makes sense to do it on a day that's important for her rather than for you.

I gotta agree with @Nightmare Mirage, Nightmare Moon more than likely wanted to ruin her sisters big day, and it would seem more dramatic when she turned the longest day of the year into a never ending night. She chose the perfect day to rain on Celestia's parade

It actually WAS the longest night of the 1000th year... because after all, Celestia was about to raise the Sun when she came back, and then it stayed night for the rest of the day before they found the Elements and wrecked her business.
