Is There A Way To Disable The Messaging Feature For Your Profile?

I wouldn't like to receive private messages to my profiles; is there I way that I can disable that?

Only thing that comes to mind is that when you edit your profile there is enable status updates option if you disable that i think people wont be able to post status updates to your profile but if im not mistaken you wont be able to make your own updates either.

Yes. 

Just click on the mailbox icon at the bottom of your inbox & you will see a "Disable My Messenger" option.
