Ruby rolled her eyes and let out a sigh "You ponies never listen..." "Take what I said literally."...."why do I even bother, obviously you can't understand." "What I said in different wording..." "I will make sure no creature can kill you, because I have tolerated you so long that I won't let that happen." she then stepped toward Somnus, pressing herself against the spear, if Somnus was holding it blade towards Ruby, the pressure would be enough to cut her skin since she was in her pony form "If I wanted to kill you I would have done it long time ago." she looked Somnus deep into his eyes with blank expression "But go ahead, use that spear, I promise, it will hurt you much more than it does me."

Somnus' eyes seemed different. Not like a pony, but more similar to a wyvern taken by instinct. Right when Ruby put herself against the spear though, Somnus quickly dropped it backing away as his eyes went back to looking like the eyes of a pony.

There was no way he could ever bring himself to hurt Ruby. He felt bad for what he was so close to doing and also afraid of this weird instinct he felt.

"What's happening to me."

That's all he could say.

Ruby didn't say anything about the eyes, but she did wonder why after over thousand years this was happening, was it a spell that was now failing? since all magic based defeats of attackers had also failed after thousand years. "You are starting to know how I feel." "Having unknown force effecting your mind." "Only difference being that it's opposite to my problem"

Somnus didn't know about the thing with his eyes, all he knew was the rush of some sort of strong instinct.

"But why? Since when does a pony ever have something like this? We need to get there quick. There has to be a faster way of getting there."

He picked up his spear knowing that leaving it behind would be a bad idea since he had no idea what he would run into.

Somnus looked at the river and noticed how fast it was moving.

"Maybe if we build a wooden raft, we can save some time."

"It better be a good raft if you are really planning to do something like that." Ruby responded "I hate swimming in this form, and that's what is going to happen if the raft is even little poorly made."

"If I can build my own boat, I can build a raft. It is pretty simple if you know what you're doing."

He took a moment to think about how he would do this.

"We don't have an axe to get wood, but maybe you could be strong enough to take down some small trees in your dragon form."

He took a tarp from his saddlebag.

"I forgot to place the tent on top of this, so maybe we can use this to wrap around the raft to prevent any water from getting through. The bag for the tent could be cut up with my spear and we can use it for rope to tie the wood together."

Somnus took his spear and cut the tent back up and used it to make some rope. He then took a two rocks, one bigger one smaller. He hit the bigger rock with the smaller rock until it was wedge shape. He used this to cut the wood into what he needed. It took some time, but get got the wood to where it needed to be.

"There, now all I need to do is tie it all together and put the tarp around it."

Ruby transformed back to her pony form, and just observed as Somnus did his thing, it wasn't that she necessarily cared about how a raft was made, but she didn't have anything else to look at. She nodded when Somnus told the next step, she didn't know why he did, but she didn't feel like pointing it out. Calti in other paw was very interested in what Somnus was doing, following his actions from close.

"Now that we are done building this, you will get on, I'll push it into the water, and fly onto it."

Ruby just nodded and got in, then turning towards Calti and seemingly communicated with her for a second, causing Calti to look at the river, then at the raft, and when Somnus was to let go of her, she ran in record speed into Ruby's saddlebag. "I'd say that that confirms that Calti hates water." Ruby said, sounding a bit amused.

Somnus let the cat go and when she was in the saddlebag, he pushed the raft into the river and flew onto it. The raft seemed to do well.

"I wonder how we will find my parents. Nations tend to have large populations, so I'm not sure asking around will work."
