The finale being a 2-parter? That's a possibility, but with Boulder Media now working on MLP specials, maybe they'll make another one, and THAT could actually be the true finale - like.... an encore! Could be pretty big, just without Equestria being at stake again! Maybe like a timejump or something, we see how the lives of the Mane 7 and others turn out!

Y'think Boulder might make that? Who knows? Maybe they'll make it in the middle of G5!

No, god... that's horrible as an executive decision. FiM should be whole as the episodic series it is. Every side show and spin off is and should still be a choice for the viewers to watch, a special ending a few months or even a year after FiM ends would be a cheap shot at the series as a whole.

Now, your idea of getting a glimpse of the main characters in the future is great and I really think Hasbro will eventually take it on. But I think they will use the power of nostalgia to make a sequel (movie, special or even a full series) some, or maybe many, years after FiM ends.

In “THE Leak”, it was mentioned there will be two specials starting the last season. We now got one in Rainbow Roadtrip. No further word about the other. For what we know, it could have been cancelled. Hasbro isn’t obligated in being transparent about that one. If such special is still coming, it’s likely it’ll be a stand alone instead of further exploring the series finale

Season 4,Season 5 and Season 7 is the best final in the MLP and the best past story in the IDW comic that is why The Pony of Shadow and Lord Tirek is the best villains so maybe the IDW comic will show Grogar's past story just like Lord Tirek and the Pony of Shadow, please Hasbro i want to see Gusty in the Grogar's past story.

I don't think that we'll have an entire special dedicated soley to the future lives of the characters - I'm not saying that it wouldn't happen, just that I don't see it as appearing as a special. I think the writers would want something like that open to interpretation.

I’ve been considering the possibility. Then again, I remember said two specials being aired after S9 and they were both unnamed, while Best Gift Ever had vectors leaked

I have a funny feeling we're gonna get a time jump of some sort...can't say why I think that without spoiling a particular upcoming episode.
