resolved Deleting Attachments

I know the answer is probably "No." but I was wondering if there was any way to delete/wipe out all of my attachments so that I can

start over from scratch?

Out of curiosity, why would you like to do this? :P Doing so would leave broken images and other things all over the place in your posts, which wouldn't look nice. :mlp_icwudt:

Users have unlimited space for attachments, so there's no really need to wipe them all out.

Technically you caaaaan delete attachments if you'll remove all instances of these from contents themselves. You can use My Attachments page (accessed from the profile menu) to view and locate sources of the attachments and, if desired, delete them by editing your posts, if the topic is not locked of course. If you have attachments that don't really serve any purpose, you can clean your list a bit by doing so, but just wiping everything out would leave mess in your posts. :twi:

I know. But there are A LOT that I "saved" by posting and then deleting status updates.  :sealed:

Removing of attachments is more of a policy issue to be honest. It’s the same reason we don’t give users the ability to delete their own posts. We really do want this forum to show itself of as a fun looking site, and generally images missing can leave context a little strange.

This isn’t the exact issue in your case since you are talking about Status Updates. But yeah that’s why it’s a missing feature.

I'm not sure if I understood correctly, but if for example, you'll upload an attachment to a status update and then delete the status update, making the attachment no longer being used anywhere and therefore, not being able to access the content in order to remove the attachment from it, you actually should be able to delete it from My Attachments page, by way of exception.[ that's at least what I've gathered through a bit of testing ]

(Notice the Delete button that appeared next to attachment, that isn't plugged anywhere)

Theoretically, you shouldn't end up having ghost attachments, that got stuck somewhere in space forever doing nothing. If an attachment no longer serves its purpose, you should be able to delete it, or plug it to a new content to give it a new life I believe. I wonder if such attachments get deleted on their own after some time when not being used - I recall they do, but I'd need to experiment more to be sure.

Of course keep in mind, that if you'll delete a status update, it will still exist for some time before it will be actually deleted (to give a chance to retrieve the content if deleted by mistake or something), so you may not see the delete button immediately - in that case it will still show its location, that will lead you to content that can't be viewed. How long it takes though, that is an information I don't see. I'd guess 30 days, but it's configurable so it may vary. :eager:
