___________________________________________________________________________________MaryAnne Merlot opened up the Alicorn Ale Tavern for business, then retreated behind the counter to polish the glasses. She waited for any pony to walk into her tavern for lodging or a good meal and perhaps some good laughs in these difficult times. The princesses had just recently began their reign and Equestria was in trouble. The princesses were trying to bring peace to the land and make treaties with the outlying countries. Alas, the other country's did not all seem eager to put all ill will behind them. The Changelings, the Diamond Dogs, The Dragons, and the Griffins are just to name a few. There would soon be a peace conference in which they would attempt to find a fair treaty, they would discuss the future of the people and of all Equestria. These were tough times indeed, as the small village of Canterlot near the Castle would host the visitors and the meeting. People were all a flutter and nervous for the out come of their country. MaryAnne Merlot or Merlot for short was only too glad for the extra business but still cautious of the possibility that a fight amongst the visitors might breakout. Merlot contemplated her fears for a while until the tavern doors swung open...

As decan walked into the little village he looked around at all the young filly's and colt's and began thinking about how they will react when they discover the disorder around all of Equestria, How will they grow up in a world of war, "I sure hope the meeting goes well" thought Decan as he walked toward the tavern at the center of town.More tired than he had ever felt Decan pushed open the two doors of the tavern and walked in, he glanced around the room and saw a kind looking mare behind the counter he trotted and over said," Hello there Madame, I need a room and a glass of your finest mead please."

Twinkie Pie sat beside her table, constantly moving the cloth to a new place. Life can never be the same, yet it can. Oh, it's so confusing in these times... she thought, picking up the cloth to move it again. "Hmm.... I may as well find a use for this cloth." Twinkie said, picking up the cloth again and going to see if she could find a use for it. I could make something with it.. she thought, going into a room where she could think about what she could make with one white piece of cloth.

Nyx was roaming the fields and forests surrounding the town, gathering herbs and ingredients, and sticking them in a small saddlebag he nearly always kept with him when going out. He had learned at as a small colt that nearly all plants could be identified using only their scent, and since he had been blind his whole life, his smelling was finely tuned. He would use the ingredients he gathered to make medicines and ailments for those that needed them, for a small price. <Just a few more, and I'll go back> He thought, as his saddlebag was getting full.

MaryAnne Merlot nodded at the stallion and slid a key at him, "Room 2 up the stairs" she turned around to get his mead, "So what brings you to the Alicorn?"

Twinkie Pie started making a dress out of her cloth.

MaryAnne Merlot nodded at the stallion and slid a key at him, "Room 2 up the stairs" she turned around to get his mead, "So what brings you to the Alicorn?"

 

"thank you" said Decan as he took the key off the counter." I am here for something new, a good place to settle down and open up my very own smithy. Do you know if there are any houses or old shops for sale around town?" Asked Decan.

"Well actually, the building next door, I own it. The tavern used to be there but we outgrew it and now it is lying empty. I am sure we can reach an arrangement." She smiled.

[Filly Pinkie Pie 208]

Twinkie Pie finished making the dress and looked at it. "This needs something..." she said to herself. "Sparkles!" She ran to another room and looked for her sparkles and diamonds. She found them and put a few and her dress until slowly, slowly, the dress would shine in the window. "Perfect!" Twinkie Pie said, putting it in the front room for display and sitting back down.

Decan smiled back and said "That sounds wonderful, What price were you hoping to get it for ?"

Twinkie Pie stared blankly at the door, and her staring made her laugh. "HAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHha...ha...heh..." Finally she stopped laughing and just stared at the door.

"Hmm I might have to think on that, 15 bits a month, a lease with option to buy out after two years for 350 bits?" she stopped for a moment before continuing "Unless you think a different price would be suitable? I am open for negotiation."

"15 gold coins a month sounds good but I still have to open my shop,"Decan thought for a second. "Hmm, are you looking for somepony to work in your tavern because if you were maybe I could work here and then just pay 10 gold coins a month along with helping out around the tavern until I get my business up and running, would that work ?"

 

 

 

(in the show they just say bits but I kinda like the idea of gold silver and copper coins but im easy)

"That sounds like a very good idea, I have been needing some help around here." She smiled and nodded "Alright it's settled then, You start tomorrow"

"What a lovely name. Call me Decan its short but I got rid of my real name when I was a young colt I felt no attachment to it so I gave myself a new one, anyhow its a long story and i'm tired it was very nice meeting you Merlot, and what time should I be up for woooork ?" Asked Decan while giving a big yawn.

Artemisia suppressed a small laugh as he yawned. "After you get a good nights sleep, and breakfast in you of course. You can start in the morning, before we open."

"Sounds good to me." Decan began to walk up the stairs and then laughed turned around and said."I forgot to pay for my room and my drink, How much will that be ?" said decan as he pulled out a small coin purse.

"Two bits for the room, the drink is on me." She replied.

"Thanks again" said Decan as he put the bits on the counter, he then turned around and flew up the stairs sipping his drink. when Decan got into his room he dropped all his belongings put his empty cup onto the bedside table and collapsed onto his bed.

MaryAnne nodded as he ran upstairs. She swept the bits into her coin purse and started to wipe down the counter top.She looked out the windows of the tavern to see the sunset sky as she prepared for closing.

Nyx opened the door to his shop. He called for his assistant to help him put the herbs into storage, then went to the back room, filled a cauldron with water, and lit a fire beneath it.

MaryAnne sighed as she finished up cleaning, she went to scrub the dirty mugs but splashed hot water on herself resulting in a minor burn. She closed shop and left for the apothecary's. She trotted into the shop and raised her voice "Nyx? Are you there...I burnt myself!"
