Jeremiah had been standing in the guard tower, looking out over the town, when he heard the faint sound of breaking glass. He quickly looked towards the source, and saw a yellow pony standing by a shattered window.

Jeremiah silently stretched his wings, gave a starting flap, and silently flew over to land by the broken window. He looked inside to see a frantic, blood covered pegasus mare, trying to cut the cord and watch the door at the same time.

"You'll never be able to cut through it, you know." He said, startling the mare accidentally.

[if you don't mind to post in OOC a small description for Chancy and Jeremiah I'd appreciate, no rush]

Storm Cloud yelped and her heart skipped a beat as she heart a stallion's voice behind her. She turned to look at a pegasus standing close to the shattered window. His voice was friendlier than the one coming from the mare that had left the room just seconds ago.

She noticed she had dropped her improvised knife and focused on the ground looking for it and resumed her task. "I need water and that means you'll have to kill me to make me stop" she said without looking at the colt.

Jeremiah laughed a bit. "No, I mean that there's no physical way to cut that cord, even if you had a proper knife. The center is made of magic. It's indestructible until the unicorn that made the center releases her magic from the cord."

He began to open his wings, flapping them slightly. "And as for water, I'll be right back, Ms...?"

"Storm Cloud" she replied dryly. "And you wouldn't think that makes me give up", she dropped her instrument and focused back on the bed the cord was attached to, getting ready to buck it with all the power she could bring up.

Her front hooves weren't up to support her and the pain made her land face first on the floor. She let out a desperate sigh, and took a series of deep breaths. She then gave a pleading look to the pegasus "I don't need another one of your buckets" - she pointed at the object across the room - "I need something to drink and a bath. Please"

"I'll get you something to drink, Ms. Cloud, but I can't promise for a bath." Jeremiah said, before lifting off, flying away towards the well.

He grabbed a bucket, and tied it to the well's rope and pulley system. He then lowered the bucket into the well, using the rope tied to the side. When he had filled the bucket, and brought it back up, he untied the rope, and began to carefully fly back to Storm Cloud's broken window, trying not to spill any water.

"Here you go Ms. Cloud." Jeremiah said, reaching the room and setting the bucket down inside the window. "That water's clean, straight from the well.

She grabbed the bucket and put it to her lips. The liquid running down her throat removed the dryness and made her sigh happily.

After drinking Storm jumped on her bed and made herself as comfortable as she could. She looked at the stallion close to the window. She made an attempt at some small talk.

"So, that unicorn nurse seems not very happy about having me here and making a mess in her rooms." she said taking in the destruction she had caused few minutes before.

"Oh, you mean Chancy?" Jeremiah began. "She's just upset that Boss isn't doing too well. In fact, we're all a little upset, but I guess it effects her a little more, being his sister and all."

He began to move around the glass shards at his feet, attempting to fit them back together a bit.

He looked up, a smile on his face. "She'll probably calm down once Boss recovers, anyway."

Ruby just silently nodded at MaryAnne's comment, sitting by the little table at the tavern. The other ponies in the tavern were either running around, or having loud discussions about what had just happened. She felt confused to say the least, she was that kind of pony who read books all days and barely could talk to others without stumbling on her words, she had no idea how to react to this kind of things.

Long forgotten memories from her childhood were mercilessly flickering before her eyes while she was staring down at the table.

"Well, then I guess I'm allergic to their genes, can't say I like any of both" - she stated without emotion. "And you're another thief I guess?"

She turned in her bed to look at the ceiling, breaking eye contact with the pegasus in the room. Her mind hated all of the thieves, but he seemed to be a nice person and made it difficult for her to hate him for his job. She sighed and turned her head to look at the colt again.

"You guys are thieves, parasites of society, you ruin the lives of law abiding ponies. How can you life with that?"

Lockhart was running after the blood trail storm left behind. She isn't dead. They were already in an alley. If she was dead, she'd be there. He thought, reassuring himself. He started to run faster. She isn't dead. She isn't dead. She isn't dead. He was starting to sprint. Do I care for her?

(Sorry this is so short. Not much to say on my end.)

"Well to be technical about it, Ms. Cloud, neither myself nor Chancy can be considered thieves. My only job is to watch for anyone coming, and open the gate if they're with us. Chancy's only job is to tend to the patients, making sure they recover from whatever wounds they sustain on their missions."

Jeremiah began to walk back towards the window. "And speaking of jobs, I need to be returning to mine. I hate to cut off the conversation, but Boss would never let me hear the end of it if someone snuck inside when I wasn't there."

"But your boss is a thief and you know that! Your job is to protect the thieves and help them with their job, I don't see the difference." she wanted to yell at the pony beside the bed.

Instead she turned away, resting on her right side. Storm didn't want to face the pony in the window and spoke with a voice close to whispering - "You're as much of a criminal as he is!" - tears started invading her eyes and she fell silent, she was only waiting for the pegasus to leave to stop faking composure and let the water in her eyes flow.

Jeremiah stopped at the window, and looked back at Storm, a look of concern on his face. When he spoke, there was a slight disappointment in his voice.

"You know, we're not all the same, and you really shouldn't judge somepony based on who he works for or is friends with. If you got to know a few of the ponies in this place, you'd understand that some of us aren't really completely rotten. Some of us still have good souls."

At those last words, Jeremiah took off out the window, heading back towards the guard tower.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chancy walked down the halls of the hospital, straight towards the main exit. She barged out the doors, wanting to reach her destination with such determination that she didn't notice the male pegasus pony bringing water to a window.

As she came across the building of her focus, she slowed down slightly. Opening the front door, she walked inside, entering a very well furnished room, seeming almost regal at first glance. There were weapons in display cases, mannequins covered head to toe in various types of armor, beautiful, hand woven carpets, bookshelves and bookshelves teeming with books, some brand new, the gold embroidery still visible, others so old that their bindings were beginning to fall apart. There were multiple windows, each having elegant silk curtains, and clear, glistening panes. There was a curving staircase on the right, leading up to the second floor. It was this staircase that Chancy ascended, reaching the top, which held a room almost as extravagant as the first, but with no windows, and a bed, fit for a king, upon which rested Codax.

Chancy walked over to the mare, sitting upon the edge of his bed. She began to stroke his purple mane, saying "Come on Codax, I know you can pull through. I hope you can pull through. I know you always told me that I'd make a great leader when you were gone, that I'd lead the Guild to new heights, but I don't think I'm quite ready to take hold of this place yet. I still need you! Please, brother, please. I'm scared to be alone. Please get better."

She repeated the words twice more, all the while stroking Codax's mane. When she was finished, she silently got up, and began to walk towards the stairs. As she reached the top, a single tear fell off her cheek, landing on the floor below.

Chancy continued to walk down the stairs, and out the door, solemnly making her way back to the hospital, tears swelling in her eyes.

[Awesome post, I bet it took quite a while to write that]

She was alone again, and let the tears flow freely. Jeremiah seemed to be a kind pony, but he still was what he was, a thief. A pony who made his life possible with the effort of another one or several ponies. Did Jeremiah think about that?

She lied in her bed, looking away from the window and into the room where the bucket, water and rug were scattered. Her eyes were unfocused and she wasn't looking anywhere, just relying on her hearing to notice anything happening.

Chancy entered the hospital, the tears that were once brimming her eyes now flooded her cheeks, and she began to walk back towards the room of the pegasus mare. As she made her way towards the door, she passed the store room. She stepped inside, grabbed a bucket, and began to fill it with water.

Once the bucket was filled, she exited the store room and continued her trip towards the mare. She finally reached the mare's door, and pushed it open silently.

As the door opened, Chancy noticed two things. First, she noticed the glass on the floor, and the broken window beside it. Second, she noticed that the pegasus mare, Storm Cloud, was lying on the bed, crying.

"Are you feeling okay?" She asked. "I brought you some water, clean water, to bathe with."

MaryAnne was getting tired of assessing the damage done by the event, "Some leather will fix that spine, I'm sure Ruby could fix it..." She took the book from Decan and brought it downstairs "Ruby, this book got damaged I'm sure you can fix it and if you need help Decan can help you, but it is your book and your responsibility." She set it on the table nearest to her neice and left the room. She went to the pantry and storage area and check the supplies. She still had plenty of her wine and ale and plenty of vegetables and grain, but when she check the water barrels she noticed that two of the barrels were empty. She loaded them onto a cart and pushed it out of the pantry into the main area of the tavern. She shouted as she left "I'm getting water at the well, anypony need anything feel free to come with or meet me there!" to anypony in the tavern who could hear her. She pushed through the doors of the tavern and out into the town square heading for the well.

"Alright," said Decan as Maryanne left the room, he then turned to the small pile of books on the floor and continued placing them on the shelf.

when he finished up Decan walked down the stairs of the tavern, "Ruby if you need a hoof with the book I will be next door unpacking," He said walking out the door.

When he got to the building next to the tavern he began to unpack.

MaryAnne reached the well and began lowering the heavy wooden bucket down the well, she felt it slowly fill with water and she drew it back up. She dumped the water in the first empty barrel and began the process again. And again. And again. She sighed, knowing that this was going to be a very long day.

Ruby examined the book MaryAnne handed her, the spine was indeed damaged but the pages were still fine, didn't seem to hard to try and fix it. "Thank you" Ruby answered MaryAnne and went to her room to get some supplies to fix it. She cut out a piece of leather to make a new spine, and used some thread to connect it to the book. It didn't look perfect, but at least the pages weren't going to fall out this way. She could always keep it to her personal collection if no one was interested in having it, she thought to herself when she proceeded to walk to the bookshelf it was suppose to be in.

She noticed that the books that had fell out were already stacked back, and was happy for the concern. After quietly putting back the fixed book in one of the corner, Ruby walked next door were Decan was to thank him for helping with the books.

"I never felt better. I don't know why I never cut myself and tied up to the bed before!" she said in a sarcastic voice. She then noticed the new expression on the unicorn's face, it was soft and it looked like she'd cried just a few minutes ago. Storm Cloud immediately felt bad for her behavior and wanted to apologize, but something kept her from doing so.

She's still the sister of the head-thief and has a grudge against me.

Storm sat up a bit keeping eye contact with the mare - "What brings you back?" - she felt the need to explain herself - "Just 10 minutes ago you were laughing in my face and happy to see me tied to your bed."

She made an attempt at joking - "Actually, the second one's still true". Stupid Storm Cloud, you wanted to stay angry at her she thought while hiding a sincere smile.

Every attempt Storm Cloud made to understand the mare went wrong. Why is she here? Has her brother recovered? Is he dead maybe? Has she actually got a heart? she gave up and hoped for the unicorn to explain.

He asked filling up the kettle and looking over at Ruby.

"Hi. Yes please, tea sounds nice." Ruby answered, looking around the room a little before making her way to the table.

"I wanted to say thank you, for putting the books back I mean" she looked a bit down towards the table shyly. "And I managed to fix the book, it is not perfect but it won't fall apart now at least."

"You probably did a better job than I would have done, and It was no hassle It gave me a reason to procrastinate I was not looking forward to unpacking," He said lighting the fire and placing the kettle on a small wrack inside the fireplace.

"I guess, one of the very few things I am not clumsy with are books." Ruby said quietly and stared into the fireplace. For her, fire meant more calmness than harm. "H-have you finished unpacking or do you want some help?" she then continued, since she hadn't much else to do since MaryAnne left to get the water.

I have already unloaded all the big stuff, right now its just small things like materials for weapons and stuff like that," said Decan poking at the fire.

the kettle started to whistle, Decan took it off the fire poured it into the two mugs and placed them on the table

"I have black tea green tea and lemon ginger tea also a mix of my own that would probably knock out a full grown dragon so maybe we should skip that hahaha," He said pulling tea out of a wooden box in his cart.
