"That guy, Codax, or whatever his name is, is a thief that his earned quite a name for himself." Lockhart said. "Lot's of people want him dead, and they're willing to pay lots of money for his head."

MaryAnne tried to ignore them, but could not help eavesdropping. She chuckle as the stallion and Storm snuggled, and became very serious as he talked about the stallion Codax.

Storm Cloud suddenly felt uneasy, she lifted her head off his shoulder and looked away looking at a random spot on the floor. How could he possibly be so cold? she thought as she considered she was sitting really close to a guy that was talking about killing ponies.

She shot a pleading look over to Marianne, her mind shouting Please Marianne, come over! as if she was hoping that Marianne could hear her thoughts if she just wished hard enough. Then she returned her gaze to meet the floor.

"What did he" her voice now low and absent minded "do, or steal" she corrected "to make people want to end his life? How much is he worth?". She took a bite off her meal and while chewing focused back on the empty spot on the floor.

As Codax silently waited, his eyes on the door to the tavern, he became slightly bored, and began to listen to the conversations of the ponies passing him.

"I'll need to see Nyx later on, my shoulder's been killing me!"

"I just barely have enough bits for a meal. I hope my wares sell better tomorrow."

"Alright, that's enough sightseeing, let's get back to the farm before Storm decides to head back before us."

"What's with all the extra guards around town? It's nothing serious is it?"

<Wait, farm?> Codax thought, looking towards two stallions, slightly covered in dirt, making their way through the streets. He slipped out of his hiding place, sticking to the shadows, and tailed them. <I wonder how many more there are? Three already makes the job slightly difficult.>

(Sorry, I had to sleep.)

"Hmm... 13 bits, probably," Twinkie Pie said.

"I really have no idea." Lockhart said. "But ponies are willing to pay about 1000 coins for his head...This this topic is making you feel a bit uneasy. So, you work on a farm? I bet it takes hard work." He was trying to change the subject.

(A hundred bits for a life? That's not high I guess)

The farm was a topic Storm Cloud preferred not to talk about when she was in no good mood, it'd only remind her of her parents and how much she hated it. So she ignored the question as if she had not heard it.

As if his coat was starting to itch on hers she pulled even further away, so she could flex her wing back into it's folded position. Now her eyes were fixed on the plate with the food sitting on the table, her thoughts still racing through her head. Then she resumed her questions without breaking eye contact with her plate "If you don't know what he did, why are you chasing him down? What about a fair trial?"

Codax watched as the two stallions walked down the dirt road leading to the farm. He had tailed them to the point that he could physically see the farm, and was just waiting to see where they'd go. <With any luck, neither of them will go inside.> He thought, watching as the first turned towards the fields. The second, however, decided to head through the door.

<Blast!> He thought. <I'll have to be careful with this, now.> He creeped forward, making his way towards the building. The door opened again, and Codax had to quickly lay flat to avoid being seen. The stallion had entered only to grab two iron hoes, it seemed. As the stallion made his way to join the other in the field, Codax quickly and quietly slipped inside. He made his way through the house, looking in each room until he found, the master bedroom. Or, as master a bedroom could be in a farm house.

He quickly pulled out a gleaming, light blue crystal. Codax stopped for a brief moment, admiring it's beauty. Oh how he longed to keep such a treasure, but he would never be able to. It's this very crystal that was the reason for the contracts on his head. Well, not so much the crystal as his own mistake.

Codax shook his head, and placed the crystal inside a wardrobe closet in the room, making sure it was easily accessible, but not immediately visible. He then snuck out of the farmhouse, and down the dirt path back to the city. He turned back to look at the place one more time, and noticed the two stallions, still working the fields, oblivious to anything.

<I almost feel sorry for you, Storm Cloud.> Codax thought, as he walked back to The Alicorn. <Almost.>

"It's the people that gave me the contrats. " Lockhart explained. "Plus, I wasn't tracking him down. He just happened to be here. I guess I can't escape work." He said laughing a little. (Meh.)

[Meh?]

Storm didn't feel like arguing with Lockhart about why he did his job or if he should trust the people who gave him the contracts as it probably would lead her to dead ends.

She repeated a previous question that now had a way deeper feeling attached to it "How does it feel?" her gaze was still focused on the food that was slowly getting cold "How does it feel to kill somepony?" she turned her head now to look into his eyes.

(I don't know how much a kill is worth XD)

He turned to Storm Cloud. "How does it feel? Well, it's different" Lockhart said. He wasn't sure how to answer the question without sounding colder than he already was. " The first time, I was blinded by rage, so I didn't feel anything. Other times, I feel bad because I know they have I a family that may care for them, sometimes I feel good because I may have saved a life, or even an entire town."

Decan Who had been listen to the two ponys conversation got up and walked to the back of the room where three old broken chairs and one cracked table with a missing leg lay in the corner, Decan looked over at MaryAnne and said,

"I will have to take these next door They need new legs witch I have to start making, And the table...well I am just going to build you a new one so it will be a couple days for the chairs to be done but table will most likely be three or four, In the meantime is there anything else I can do ?" He asked picking up the three chairs.

"H-here you go then" Ruby said, giving Twinkie Pie said the desired amount of money. "Thank you for the work" she then added, grabbing the folded tablecloth in the process. She put it down in the saddlebag she was carrying with her for the stuff and then turned to leave the shop. She opened the door with one hoof and turned her head back towards Twinkie Pie. "Good bye" Ruby said with a small smile and closed the door behind her.

"Now then, what is left from the list" Ruby thought for herself, thinking back to the list. Her special talent was excellent reading memory, so she didn't need to pick up the list to check. "Only some new mugs and plates" was Ruby's conclusion and decided to go to the shop a bit close by the Alicorn, since they also had books. "They do have lots of stuff in that shop, nothing wrong with that though." Went through her head when she was aiming her steps towards the shop.

"I..." she slowly looked down and turned awayto make the words easier for her "That is reasoning, not feeling, you're telling me how you think you should feel. But I meant, how does it feel to take a life? What happens in a pony when it makes the light vanish in another's eyes?"

She felt a cold shiver running down her spine as she imagined she would have to kill a pony and how it would look like. She leaned a bit towards Lockhart again, her body was asking for it but her mind stopped her just centimeters away from him. She wanted him to take the next step this time.

Twinkie Pie took the bits into her living space and put them in her bedroom drawer. She went into the kitchen and ate something, then went back to the front room and sat back on her stool. It was all she did all day.

"To be honest, I guess feel like I'm avenging my parents, even though they chose to end their lives... For most ponies, killing someone would drive them insane. I feel happy that I've killed someone that might have killed my family or someone else's... When I see them die, I kind of feel like a save someponies life." Lockhart tried to grin.

"But whatever, life."

Storm Cloud felt rejected as Lockhart didn't seem to notice her gesture but didn't move at all. The realization that a pony life was not worth more than a bag full of bits hit her.

"What would you do?" she pointed at the scrolls "If the name and description on those matched mine? Would I turn into a threat to your family too?" suddenly her voice had grown louder. She blushed and her head drooped.

"Thank you again" Ruby said to the shop keeper before closing the door after her. She had gotten all necessary things from him, plus a small book with no name. When she had quickly looked through the book, it had seemed to be some kind of traveling journal. Very curious about it, and it low price had made Ruby buy the little book. She maybe wasn't a adventurous pony herself, but she loved reading about others.

With all the things bought, Ruby made her way back to the Alicorn. She was starting to get slightly hungry. "Hopefully there is some lunch left for me when I get back" she thought while walking the road back to the tavern.

Codax arrived at The Alicorn. Knowing that the sell-sword would have probably gotten everyone in the room worked up about trusting him, he made his way around the building, looking for another way up. As he walked through an alleyway, he noticed a ladder fixed to the opposite building. He climbed to the roof of the building, and looked to The Alicorn. <It's only about a three or four foot jump, I can make it.> He thought, looking at the balcony above the front porch. He took a couple steps back, and made a running leap, landing gracefully on the wood. The door on the balcony was locked, so Codax pulled out a slender piece of wood, and a small knife, and had the door opened in less than ten seconds. He quietly slipped inside, making sure the door closed silently behind him.

Ruby could have sworn she saw someone on the roof to the Alicorn before entering there, but she doubted she could have seen someone. "Who would even be on the roof this time? Decan most be finished as far as I know" she thought to herself, shrugging her head and heading towards the door.

Once inside, she saw Maryanne sitting in one of the corners and walked over to her. "I've bought everything you asked for, should I go and put it in the storeroom?" and after realizing Maryanne was looking in one of the books she had on her shelf she added. "A-and what do you think of the book if you don't mind me asking?"

Twinkie Pie started to hum to herself as she pushed the dust off an area of the wall. A picture of two small fillies appeared. Pinkie, Pinkie Pie, will I ever find you? she thought. I have a twin sister and the only way I know that is this picture and a few pieces of paper... She sat back on her stool.

"I wouldn't do it." Lockhart said, almost hurt from the question. He lifted her head up. "I know you well enough to know you wouldn't do anything wrong, and even if you did, I wouldn't lay a hoof on you."he put her hoof into his. "Besides, you'd probably beat me in a fight." Lockhart said grinning, trying to lighten the mood. Lockhart heard something on the roof, and if it was Codax, he was in for a treat. His pouch of money was tied to a book case, so if anyone took it the bookcase would fall on them.

"Yes,Thank you Ruby, there is some food on the counter. The book is very good. You should purchase more books to sell. And a shelf." MaryAnne said over the loud tavern.
