What if Twilight suffered a MAJOR emotional breakdown near the end of the series?

Remember when Steven Universe turned into a monster because he thought he was one? Or when Samurai Jack nearly committed suicide because he had lost all hope? Well what if Twilight had an emotional crisis much like theirs? Especially since she has had some traumatic experiences herself? Like the Changeling invasion of Canterlot or dealing with Starlight altering the timeline? And who could forget her panic attacks?

And unlike Twilight's mental breakdown in "Lesson Zero", this would NOT be played for laughs.

She had a “comical” breakdown in Lesson Zero, very early on in the series. She was also never forced to become the ruler of Equestria, but Season 9 was just forced to end in a happy way for the show, just to end it and make room for Hasbro’s newer toys. FIM had a few crazy moments, but I don’t think it was on the emotional league of Steven Universe (which was more Anime focused). FIM would have been better for an adult audience if it was written like an Anime.

Dark.

Twilight messed up so badly in Season 9, she got the elements of harmony tree destroyed. She also did some very quick judgment calls to steal a pearl in the movie which goes against her Princess of Friendship title (stealing from a friend, going against her friends, tricking her friends and also her new friend). If FIM as an Anime, Twilight would be absolutely emotionally crushed by those actions. She would not make it. FIM would not be a happy show if that was the case, and many of us fans would be scared forever :oh_golly:

I honestly think it should've been more like Steven Universe in that regard. Speaking of that show, instead of Friendship is Forever or even Pony Life, G4 would've really benefited from a SU: Future-style epilogue series set during the era of The Last Problem. Even if it ended controversially on a darker note, it would at least set up G5 and give us a hint at what went wrong after FIM.
