DVD Menus

I had made a previous post about how DVDs are all grey most of the time but used to have pictures on them, but another thing I thought about was DVD menus, specifically how sometimes they have a lot going for them. A good example is the Shrek 2 DVD menu.WebPImage.webp.ea50030243e685d52e13f3013993d355.webp

This DVD menu has a lot of personality. What can I say about this DVD menu that hasn’t already been said? The way everyone is annoyed by Donkey, the way the screen spins whenever you make a selection, and everyone has their own introduction whenever you select one.

However, another one of my favorites is the Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius DVD menu._com.apple.Pasteboard.LNHJad.thumb.png.c7b937ea6937c947764ff65a71bd46f4.png

I love how the main menu is Jimmy’s computer searching for the missing parents, and how each of the sub menus are other features on Jimmy’s computer, like how the special features menu is Goddard’s diagnostic test. It might not be as creative as the Shrek 2 DVD menu, but I love all the effort they put into it.

But anyway, what are some of your favorite DVD menus?

Early DVD era of early 2000s, when it hit the market. DVDs had so much personality, i guess its a forgotten art now. But my theory, it was probably done to kinda make VHS people switch to DVD honestly. Interms of fancy looking DVD screens etc. I guess they realise this is no longer needed since almost nobody has a VHS player, and no movie is made for VHS anymore either.

Looking it up. Last VHS player made was in 2016. It followed also with a DVD player on it

I don’t mind a dvd menu if it’s attractive but not intrusive. Quite a few of them slow down the process by being a little too clever for their own good. They have a simple purpose; display the options, and that’s it. I don’t like having to hunt far and wide to find options that are hidden like Easter Eggs as in some of the old Disney metal boxed sets. And I’m not fond of seeing tons of scenes from the upcoming movie, loaded with spoilers, shown on my screen before I’ve even hit the Play button. Pretty is nice, pretty is fine, but I’d prefer a bare bones approach to dvd menus to be honest.

I like the menus in the DVD early days as they were creative and super entertaining for a menu and that's what a lot of DVDs are lacking nowadays.

I just thought of another set of DVDs menus that I thought were fun, SpongeBob SquarePants: The First 100 Episodes.

Isn't there a Pantera music feature on that set?
