Reboots

What do you think of them? To be clear by reboot I mean using the same name and some of the same character names as an earlier show but telling a differnet but similar story.

Generally I think they're horrible and lazy and ruin the legacy of the original but there are exceptions:

MLP FIM and MYM/TYT obviously

Battlestar Galactica 2003

Thundercats 2011

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

Oh right. So many TMNT shows I didn't think of that. I still haven't watched Ducktales 2017. :lie:

They can be good and I don't think they should be written off but more often than not they drop the ball.

For every DOOM 2016 you get 2 DmCs

For every TMNT 2012 you get 2 Thundercats Roar

and etc

Hhmmmmm

TMNT 2012 was not that bad as the story went along,  it got better in truth.

She-Ra and Princess of Power I did come to like about the 2ed season.

2011 Thundercats,  I knew would have been good given the chance to keep going.

Sailor Moon Crystal follows the manga..so 10/10 for me.   :yay:

Some reboots can work depending on how they choose to make them and how to let them play out.  Others have just been trash to a point....

I've heard of Thundercats Roar but I deny it's existence.

Yeah, like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood I wouldn't really consider it a reboot if they're just following the soiurce material more closely.

i honestly dont hate reboots as much as others. infact im pretty lenient on how many changes they make (which now that i think of it is probably the result of me being an mlp fan). i just want the rebooted new piece of media to be good while not *totally* losing everything that made the original piece of media itself. typically im just excited to see a new and interesting take on something i like (again, as long as its good.)

i should probably also mention though, that i havent kept up with many of the more recent reboots people complain about. aside from the new fairly oddparents which i really liked x3

I mean I can agree a bit,  but still, as a SM fan it was nice and I love both FMA'S for different reasons.  :Cool-shades:

I have sort of complex feelings about reboots. Some franchises like Transformers, MLP, He-Man, etc. lend themselves to getting reboot, they change to appeal to kids of the time and still explore new ideas. I do like a lot of reboots, and I think that sometimes you'll enjoy a reboot more if you don't compare it to the source material as much.

Maybe it's the intentions behind the reboot that affect it? Like with something like She-Ra, it feels like it was rebooted with a genuine care and interest in the franchise. There are a lot of differences, but I get the feeling that whoever made it had some amount of care for it. With the Disney live action reboots, it feels like most if not all are just cash grabs to milk as much money as possible from old franchises so they don't have to put effort into anything new or creative. They aren't being made to appeal to modern kids, because the original movies still do a perfectly good job of that, their only purpose is to just make more money. Plus it just makes me sad as someone who loves animation and would rather see that than a soulless CGI recreation :fluttershysad: (not bashing CGI entirely obvs).

It's not that reboots are bad, it just depends a lot on the crew working on it and how much effort is put in as well as why they're being made in the first place.

Also to add is the recently ended Strawberry Shortcake Berry in the Big City.

Basically SB's equivalent to FiM.  And it's legally free to watch on YT, so get to watching.😁
