Well, how much do you know :ooh:?

Spoiler

1. Capital is Bucharest

2. Borders the Black Sea

3. Nadia Comaneci (very famous gymnast) performed in the Olympics for Romania and pulled perfect scores for them, in the 70s.

4. Dragostea din tei is sung in Romanian

5. Transylvania's castle (Dracula's castle) is there

I guess there might be people who know a lot more though :adorkable:.

Its language is interesting in that it's a Romance language coming from Latin influenced by the Slavic languages in its proximity, making it by far the most interesting Romance language to me :]

Its language is also closely related to Vlachic/Aromanian that part of my family spoke, my paternal grandmother spoke it and no one could understand her :o

Also beautiful woodlands... really would love to visit!

Its neighbour Moldovia speaks the same language (Moldovia also has a fascinating breakaway state called Transnistria that still uses a Soviet style flag...)

Capital is not to be confused with Budapest... that's Hungary... :okiedokieloki:

The Carpathian mountains go through parts of its territory!!! (🥰) Which most certainly means they have wolves and other predators in Romanian territory.

I know it has some spooky locales; castles and a forest with strange (some say paranormal) aspects. That’s about all I know to be honest.

They had pretty significant amounts of oil production before and during WW2, don’t think they have much now.

They have a pretty cool flag.

That’s about it, I don’t know much about them sadly. Never met any Romanians or researched their history too much.

(edited)

I had a friend who grew up in Romania just before the end of the Cold War. He had clear memories of the days before the wall came down.

It was neat hearing about all of that from someone my own age who had a much closer seat to the last exciting developments than I did.

Romania occupied sort of an interesting situation among communist nations. It was ruled by a single guy who was way more like Kim Jong Un than say Mikhail Gorbachev.

I hadn't even known that, so he was just telling me what he experienced growing up under that.

iiiiii knooooow mostly ancient history of it, but some medieval and modern!! I know that Romania was once called Dacia, and was inhabited by Thracian tribes :3 they liked hill forts and metalworking. the Dacian capital was known as Sarmizegetusa Regia, which was itself one of six fortresses placed in hills ^~^

i know the romans, led by Trajan, ended up conquering the Dacians, and erected a column known as Trajan's Column in Rome to commemorate it. they (romans) built a lot of roads and cities in the area uwu UNFORTUNATELY, like a lot of territories inhabited by Rome, it eventually was abandoned and Dacia was left to fend itself off from the Huns, the Avars, the Slavs, Cumans.... to name a few :3

in the medieval period, three kingdoms arose from Dacia. Transylvania, Wallachia, and Moldavia. Wallachia was one of the first two that united to form Romania, and it's capital Bucharest became the capital of Romania :3 I believe Vlad the Impaler is someone from Wallachia as well, Vlad Tepes.

i know that they were briefly an axis power in ww2 before switching to the allies, and became a communist regime after King Michael was forced to abdicated to soviets. in 1989, the romanian revolution was actually one of the bloodiest in the East :pip-err: eventually they joined NATO, and then the EU

i know Romania is technically responsible for producing the first jet propelled aircraft in 1910, despite limited usage :3 in fact, Romania had a lot of discovery with aero and astronautics. they don't receive a lot of recognition for it, though... they were also the first to synthesize amphetamines through a process still used today ^~^

that's about it, minus random dates, locations and monuments :3

I had a feeling you may have known a lot :-P!

I know a few Romania Phrases. Though it’s been a while since I’ve studied them and also I forget where the accents and whatnot go.

Îmi pare bine. Nice to meet you. Wish I could learn more but it’s practically useless D:

Buna Dimineata (one of the few things I know in romanian besides da, nu and multumesc)

I worked often with romanians (in my current company but also in my education as gardener since a lot of garden helpers came from romania) and so, i know a few things.

Cities: Bucharest (capital), Cluj-Napoca (also known as Klausenburg in germany) and Constanta (city on the black sea)

There are a lot of myths in romania like vampires, ghosts and such things. There is also this forest called Hoja Baciu which is one of the most famous horror forests in europe.

I don't know if it is still there, but they had parts where they spoke german. it was Transylvania, which is also knowns as Siebenbürgen in german. The language was called Siebenbürgen-Sächsisch, but it is actually related to the dialects of my area, the rhineland, and not saxony.

In 2019, I went on vacation to Romania in the Transylvania region in the summer, and the landscape is fantastic, with all those mountains, and the climate is pleasant! Plus, there's so much greenery and flowers! So, for example, Medias is a quiet town.

I'd only been on vacation to Romania once, but it was worth it.

They had an election recently and supposedly only one of the guys would actually show up to the debates. I remember this picture floating around:

r/europe - For the current presidential elections in Romania, this is the fourth time in a row that candidate George Simion has failed to show up for a televised confrontation, while Nicușor Dan has always been present.

Apart from that, cool language/food/vampires as others have said. :P
