Rate my ponysona

I’ve come to realize that people feel very strongly about OCs and ponysonas :lie:

So! I thought I’d ask for some feedback on my ponysona. I’m not sure what qualifies as “good” when it comes to designing. I tried sticking to a color palette similar to the show while still embodying myself.
The cutie mark doesn’t have much significance aside from the fact that it matches the coat and… I like nature?

Please be brutally honest if this looks bad! I’m not easily offended, I promise!

For someone with very little knowledge on design this actually looks really good. It hits a pretty good sweetspot of being neither too boring, nor too cluttered. The colours I like especially, the soft yellow and brown look really soothing together. With no background info the vibe I get from this is an optimistic mare that likes books and nature and is maybe a bit shy and forgetful.

I wouldn`t worry as much about the designing aspect if I were you. Avatars are a bit different than fictional characters after all. All your ponysona needs to do is represent you, and if you feel comfortable with this design, then there isn`t much I can say one way or the other. If you like to imagine yourself as some god-like alicorn ruler that`s fine, if you`re all about that quiet ponyville life, that`s fine too. In either case, this isn`t my call to make.

Maybe if you get really into OC designing you can start to worry about things like shape language, sillouhette or memorability of a design. But, like, none of these arbitrary design rules are a wrong way to be a person (if there even is such a thing). And again, it looks really good. It doesn`t look to similar to any canon pony, has a strong impression and looks fun to doodle and sketch. There isn`t much more anyone can ask for.

As for the cutie mark, I would, if it were my sona, choose a specific flower. Many flowers have some sort of symbolic meaning (roses for love and such) that could reveal some deeper layer of your character. If you`re still on the fence about the flower mark, you could also look in a lexicon of symbols or something and see if anything catches your eye. For my ponysona (sorry you can`t see that right now, I`m still procrastinating working on my profile pic) I chose a symbol from a piece of art that really moved me, maybe you have something similar. Otherwise, go for a walk, look around you for anything interesting, or just let it sit for a while, my best ideas are usually the ones I have spontaniously.

So, yeah. Sorry for the wall of text :humblush: hope you got something helpful out of that.

Yay I want to be friends with your ponysona!

I don't know much about design, but she looks delightful, thoughtful and cheerful!

And i like the colours.

Also down to earth. Looks so stable.

Hope I'll make a ponysona one day too.

Also I agree with @LumenNightlight maybe choose a cutie mark that has a deeper connection with your character. It would be interesting to learn more about you. ^^

And again, lovely ponysona!! :kindness:

It's been some time, and this gives me no real authority on the matter, but I've rated thousands of designs on ponytown, and can say with biased certainty that yours is magnifique!

You've followed every rule in the book, and just about mastered the beauty in simplicity.

The only adjustment I would recommend, is perhaps brightening the irises to match the warmth of the cutie mark.

It's nice to see OCs with more simplified color palettes like how most of mine are (2-3 colors at most)! Not that there's anything wrong with more colors...I'm just more drawn to ponies that look a little more down-to-earth!

You've blended all the browns and tans very well, they're a nice balance of bright and subtle. I like the glasses, too, since you don't see glasses on too many OCs!

My only critique has to do with the proportions. She either needs to be thickened a little in the face or thinned a little in the body. To me her head looks a little small for her body. Very nice work, otherwise!

Thanks so much for the advice! I love the idea of using a symbolic flower, so I'll have to look into it! :pinkiehappy:

Oh my goodness you're so right!! I thought something looked a little off- but I couldn't figure out what. Thanks for pointing that out! :derp:
