So I want to know, what, in your opinion, are great lyrics from songs of any kind and age? What kind of lyrics do you look for in a song? And what kind of meaning does the song have?

Generally speaking I listen more for the instruments than the lyrics and if there's vocals it doesn't matter what they are saying, if I like it I like it regardless if it's as epic as Disturbed, as growly as Dethklok and Skeletonwitch or as soft and soothing as Phil Collins.

 

Regardless, that doesn't mean I haven't found my share of inspirational lyrics out there though they range from inspirational on a personal level to inspirational on a "fire the spirit up" level.

 

Stuff like "Enemies of metal, your death is our reward" is enforcing of my love for the metal genre regardless of the context of the song it's in "Deadly Sinners" by 3 Inches of Blood.

 

I'll get back to you when I remember more because I've heard a great deal of awesomely inspirational lyrics over the years.
