agigantorllama 258 July 22, 2012 Share July 22, 2012 I started watching MLP in November or October 2011, I found out a little late. I'm still wondering how the old community was like. I'm pretty sure it wasn't like it is now. Now there's bronies fighting eachother about clopping, best pony fights, etc. Was it peaceful? Were bronies their own tribe, enjoying the show peacefully with love and tolerance, unlike what I usually come across? This is all I assume what the old community was like. I hope there aren't any topics like this, if there are, let me know. Digital Artist. Using GIMP.

I'm quite interested to know as well. Probably some very vast differences, considering FiM is completely revamped and rebuilt from the ground up from any of the old shows.
Jammo 986 July 22, 2012 Share July 22, 2012 Pretty much the same. Just as the fanbase grows larger, the annoying minority becomes more obvious. Internet fandom will argue. Because the people in fandom are typically humans.

The show seems to be running on fanbase it seems. That's probably one difference. I think Hasbro is trying too hard to impress us by giving us what all the fans want. One reason why I like Season One is because they didn't really have a big amount of fans, so they went on their own. I don't know... Digital Artist. Using GIMP. One reason why I like Season One is because they didn't really have a big amount of fans, so they went on their own. I don't know... The show is the show, for me. They did Derpy and a few other things, but in reality, in-show things they've done for us are not that plentiful, and when they are there, they aren't that big of a deal. A lot more stuff they do is in the merchandise and advertising. Entire commercials being aimed at us, mentioning 'brony' in them, actually naming characters fan given names, marketing some of their merchandise for bronies exclusively, etc etc. But so what if it runs off the fanbase? The only reason that's possible in the first place is because just how much the show has taken the world by storm, and by how talented the fanbase is. Seriously, most fanbases it's fanfiction and art and that's about it. But original music pieces and flash videos, hell, completely professionally done fan games like Fighting is Magic, are all over the place. In short, the community gives tons back to the show and Hasbro's team, and I don't think it's an issue ^^ Edited July 22, 2012 by ~Chaotic Discord~
thegoodhen 698 July 22, 2012 Share July 22, 2012 Ah, another pesimistic thread -_-. It's a huge loving tolerating community, man! These problems aren't that big. Do you even realise that there was an organised troll attack on these forums? Real bronies (majority, that is) are great people. I love it here.
John 793 July 22, 2012 Share July 22, 2012 (edited) Well I started liking the show and fan base sometime around December 2011-January 2012 so I wouldn't really know :/ I think it was pretty much just like it is now. And what "organised troll attack on these forums" are you talking about? O.o That's pretty much a direct quote from Feld0's words. (I believe it was Feld0 who said that: "What we have whitnessed here was an organised troll riot") or something along these words. One of examples of troll topic was RD's sexuality. The troll thought this will cause a wild discussion, but he was right only partially. Bronies remained surprisingly calm and didn't tell each other anything bad really. This happens once in a while. But compare this community to youtube and you'll see how tolerant this is by Internet standards. Edited July 22, 2012 by thegoodhen
StarStep 42 July 22, 2012 Share July 22, 2012 There was and always will be best pony discussions. Plus most best pony stuff I've seen is just basic jabbing and not meant to be taken as literal attacks against those who like a different pony best. Anyway it seems pretty much the same. Though now there are stars of the fandom. I remember there just being a few when I joined, madmax and eurobrony come to mind but now there are lots more and the quality standard to get noticed has gone up but that is to be expected. Plus getting mlp stuff was alot more expensive and hard to come by (minus basic toys). Now there are tons of shirts to find on redbubble and we love fine and multiple people you can commission for customs or plushies for more reasonable prices then back then. As for love and tolerance, you know that was just the method to deal with trolls right? But yeah in general to me it seemed that the fanbase starting out was a bit more encouraging for newcomers but the general feel is still the same just slightly modified. Plus I'd still say we are one of the nicest, encouraging fanbases out there and besides the fighting over clopping I don't see all that much fighting. So I still think we are pretty peaceful (or maybe I just don't hang out in the same places you do to see this) For reference, I joined march 2011 which feels like I joined late but after running into so many joining after season 1 finished I am not so sure I really was that late anymore. 2 My deviant art, pleasantly plush with pixeled ponies. They spent their time chiseling pony pictures into the walls, and clubbing each other over the heads. 3 Thank you Sparklefan1234!!!
Sararyman...man 41 July 22, 2012 Share July 22, 2012 Bronies started out in 4chan back in 2010 in the /co/ boards when the news came that lauren faust "sold herself out" to hasbro because she was now working on MLP g4, some people gave it a shot and became suprisingly impressed by it. Mast3rlinkx was the fisrt guy i can remember was open about his bronyness and uploaded episodes every now and then which caused a few more bronies and angry 12 year olds who think that he got hacked again. i think bronies didn't kick of untill summer 2011 after season 1 ended. this was when more fanmade things got made and Rule 34 paheal had one of megasweet's pictures as the featured pornographic picture of the month. and thats how me and some fans became bronies. PonyEcho 1,610 July 22, 2012 Share July 22, 2012 (edited) now thats out the way i'd say it all truely kicked off around August 2011 becuase thats when the fanbase rely started to grow and now its as if the fans know whats right for the show and think there ideas should be taken into account let them do there job because if the did listen and the show started to suck we would be to blame. SBaby 660 July 22, 2012 Share July 22, 2012 Honestly, I'm not entirely sure (since it started before I got into FiM), but considering where the community got its roots it wouldn't surprise me if they used to be the same as they are now. FedoraMemes 582 July 22, 2012 Share July 22, 2012 I haven't been around since the beginning, but I would imagine it was quite the same. Probably the only difference was that there was less people, because overtime, the fandom has been bought to the mainstream environment, and more people are joining it because they heard about it on FOX (which I'm glad I didn't) or some other website (like Rolling Stone) and they were curious about the show, and they joined the fandom. murkyx 904 July 22, 2012 Share July 22, 2012 I became a brony in late Jan 2012, so I wouldn't know for sure, but I researched a lot of the original 4chan pony threads, and they consisted mostly of what we consider now to be normal bronies, who were like pioneers at the time, being ridiculed massively and forced to stick together in a close knit community until they were banned and forced to migrate into some other area of the internet, and that's basically how it started. Actually, I think if not for the 4chan banishment, the fandom would have not kicked off as quickly as it had.
