Are ponies really nicer than humans?

I can safely say ponies are far nicer than humans because there is little to no crime, everyone is mostly nice (With a few exeptions like in "Putting your Hoof Down" and Diamond Tiara) But of course, the show is intended for teaching lessons of friendship and everything like that, so...

Everything you said was true... but none of it was permitted. (get the Assassins creed reference?)

but on a serious note, ponys can atleast solve their problems in one episode, for humans it could be never, and everypony learns important lessons usualy. (but for a little kid show thats what you should expect)

But considering which race doesn't have nuclear warfare to worry about, I'd still wanna be a pony.

That said, mankind's primitive nature drives humans to solve problems with violence. If someone hits you because they don't like you for some reason, you are likely to hit back. Humans are programmed to kill, because they are programmed to survive on an omnivorous diet.

Ponies, on the other hand, likely have this trait at an exponentially lower level. They do not kill to eat, they were not programmed to kill, but they were programmed to defend themselves and to survive. This is why I feel the Apploosa conflict occurred, as well as the conflict over which race gained control of the future Equestria. Those conflicts were based around survival.

Okay, I'm dropping a bomb here.

New theory: the show itself is a show (obvious, right?)

But here's the thing: all the phenomena you described take place on Earth... in TV shows. The singing and dancing, absolute acceptance, solving problems in a single show, etc. But only in TV shows. So this show is actually only a TV show version of what Equestria is, and NOT a realistic portal into the pony universe.

Now argue with this perspective.

Well um, how to put it this way, basically if you are one of the cast members of the show, your life is pretty nice

Of course it is, they're characters in a TV show. If things were going horribly for them, it wouldn't make the show narratively possible. The only reason they are so nice is because they're characters. Most people in Equestria wouldn't have it so good all the time.

Well it is a kids show, so watching the show there are no extreme evils, but if we take that factor away and are living there, then there could be a little bit more realistic situations to occur, but I'm sure it wouldn't be as bad as here in this world we live in.

So overall I'm thinking that ponies are a bit nicer, but I guess it just depends on the pony itself. (Diamond Tiara)

I think that it's easy to overlook other details, such as the fact that they seem to run off of an effective form of socialism, and also have a lower tech level overall. So, if you factor those in, it adds up to about even.

*Sigh*

Looking for mean behavior in a cartoon where ponies are supposed to overcome and deal with such behavior to finally be able to live in a better place is kinda... pointless... You need something to make a moral of you know... If everything is nice and shit, why would we even bother watching the show in the first place.

Your so called "logic" should have stopped at that and let it go...

You forgot in Mare-Do-Well where the main characters act completely out of character and like total hypocrites in order to teach Rainbow Dash a lesson, only to end up being guilty of the very thing they're teaching her not to do.

I'm just pointing out that Equestria is not a perfect place, and that you can't really say that it is objectively better than Earth. And you just described quite a few of our own shows if you just take out "ponies" and put in "humans". Beyond that, I do not watch the show for escapism, I watch it for the plot world-building, characters, and storyline.

My response to this is Lesson Zero. Wasn't it Princess Celestia HERSELF that said to only make a friendship report if there was something to report?

Ya, but ponies wouldn't be used to treating others meanly (I'm talking like ponies wouldn't commit suicide, remember, we have Pinkie Pie to cheer us up and make us smile smile smile) ponies dont know how to kill. The idea if killing to ponies is like Fluttershy hurting an animal. It wouldn't happen

  • 3 months later...

Think about this.

Oh yeah, possibly NOT!

Everyone has flaws and emotions.

Meaning that ponies can be mean at somepoint in time just like humans.

They aren't ALL sunshine lollipops and rainbows.... :/

I still see a lack of crime and war in Equestria, so yeah, I would still live there, nothing you say can change my mind about it.

There's probably a public lack of crime and war, because those issues simply haven't been brought up in FiM yet (at least not en masse, although there was price gouging in one episode, and that is illegal... whoops...). They could very well be brought up in later episodes (at least to some degree), especially now that the writers are gradually getting more creative flexibility. And to be honest, I could see some great possibilities for stand alone episodes that deal with things like that (well, at least the crime part), coming down the pipeline.

So the question is, are ponies nicer than humans? Probably, but think about this.

Humans may get grumpy and act like pricks to one another alot (and yes, we have our share of wars), but let's look at how the ponies are. They're generally pretty nice, but if just one of them is having a bad day, it often leads to disasterous results, such as the entire town being damaged or even outright demolished, and let's not forget Twilight's panic attack that led to half of Ponyville basically becoming mind-controlled. So either every single one of them is having a great day, or you could die. We may have disagreements and wars, but we don't have someone that turns into a giant destructive dragon the moment he gets a little greedy. If that happened, politicians would've ended humanity by now.

There are plenty of issues in the MLP universe, but are they nearly as bad as in our universe? Poverty and war, two prevailing features of our world, are nowhere to be found in Equestria. Even if they existed, they don't permeate their society as much as they do in our world. After all, how long can you go without hearing about the Middle East or World War II? There are the similarities between the pony and human worlds as the OP said, but the ponies are still significantly more accepting than humans are.

But maybe Equestria really is just as bad or even worse. Perhaps there are issues that were never touched upon in a kid's show. Maybe Celestia's hiding something. Maybe she's actually evil.

I'm too into the whole Tyrant Celestia thing.

Also, Rarity is a racist/speciesist.
