gaming Are Vault Tec Vaults possible?

So say a nuclear bomb goes off across the country....whelp nice knowing ya.

 

 

BUT WAIT! What if we could just retreat into underground vaults and wait until the earth is inhabitable.

I watched this video called Game Theory which explained that the city of Rapture is possible, so that lead me to ponder if Vaults are possible too. And do you think our leaders would do Vault experiments just as Vault tech did?

Well it is true that radiation can only penetrate so far before being stopped by the ground. And if the vaults were lined with lead, I could definitely see it as a possibility. The only problem is the fact that nuclear fallout has the potential to cause another ice age, blotting out the sun and stripping the earth of its magnetic waves making the suns radiation that much more dangerous. So I do not know if there would ever be a chance of returning to the surface.

If they are possible I hope they aren't built with the same intent. See, only three vaults were really built to apocalypse spec. If you read the lore, Vault Tec thought a nuclear apocalypse was impossible and wouldn't happen. In reality all the other vaults were just giant social experiments.

 

Although, aside from certain advanced tech, such as laser weapons and robots, IFF indicators that work like magic, I don't see how they aren't possible. Though, like the lore says they probably would be expensive and take years to build. And therefore the nuclear apocalypse would have to be expected to happen.

Not only are they possible, they already exist. And you can buy space in one for $50,000 per person.

Yeah, definitely. Radiation can only go so far down until it is stopped in the ground. The vaults would have to be lined with lead (obvious reasons) and have strict laws about children (like the 1 child law in China) to prevent overpopulation. That's not to say that the earth would actually survive nuclear appocalypse. For example, a nuclear winter could start or the earth's magnetic rays could get all effed up.

I hate being cooped up somewhere, so if it is possible I would take my chances out in the world. And besides, if you check out the Fallout Bible, only like 5 shelters were actually legitimate, everything else was designed to fail or a messed up experiment. (I.E. The Panther and like 200 residents, 1000 men 1 woman, 1000 women 1 man...)

 

 

Actually wait... I change my mind. I'll take the vault with 1000 women please.
