The Royal Sisters and love....

Do you think Luna and/or Celestia have ever taken a (mortal) lover/royal Paramour?

Attention: This thread not about whetever either of them had a fling with Discord (that's a completely different can of worms) or ever had any kids.

Also, let's keep this on a mature level, we're mostly grown-ups watching catoon ponies after all.

This thread is too interesting to pass up...

No, I do not think the royal sisters will choose a lover that is not an immortal as they are. It is already quite painful (I imagine) to see your subjects die around you, so choosing one to be your lover then having them die would be a truly heartbreaking moment.

So no, unless the pony they find is extremely special to them, I don't think they would find a mate.

I'd say they can. They can feel emotions and I'm sure that they can feel love. Cadance can, so I don't see why they can't.

So I'm inclined to say yes, they have taken a lover. It'd be hard not to.

How the heck did I not remember Cadance was an alicorn and married a unicorn ;-;

I guess they really could, if they were in love.

This one is a tad less creepy. Wouldn't you agree?

I actually have a theory, which may be disproven in the future, but heregoes. It's semi off topic, but not totally.

I think the alicorn gene only shows up in females. So far I have not seen a single male alicorn in the entire series. Even in the Hearts and Hooves Day episode, when they show the prince and the princess from the spell book, the prince was a unicorn and the princess was an alicorn.

Now who knows if alicorns are actually immortal? It could just be that they have extremely long life spans. Yet again, I don't know.

So anywho, back on topic, if an alicorn was to fall in love with a male pony (according to my theory) they would ALWAYS be mortal. It's very tragic, so I'm guessing the sisters avoid that sort of thing, unless they fall in love with other alicorn mares, or something, but we don't even know if any others exist, so...

Even so, they would face the fact of losing their loved one due to their long life. This really is a tragic subject, if you think about it.

I think what he's goes on to say is that when they fall in love and marry they then perhaps loose there immortality so they can die happily together with there lover?

(like in that film Hancock). But celestial and Luna don't fall in love to make sure they can keep the kingdom in check or safe from its enmities or whatever.

I hope this is true, it's the only way this can't be really sad for them :P

Why do I keep thinking that if Luna was in love with somepony that she would say something like this: "LOVE ME MY HANDSOME STALLION OR ELSE FACE THE WRATH OF THE ROYAL FAMILY!" in her Royal voice of course.

Kudos on the Storybook, but I don't really count Cadence as an Alicorn since she:

1. Seems to age at the same rate as normal ponies

2. Was concieved as an unicorn before Hasbro pressured the writing staff to make her an alicorn (same way Blueblood got promoted from duke to prince)

For reference though, Celestia totally had a thing goin' with Discord.

They're used to seeing generations of ponies they know and love die, so I don't see why they would avoid love solely due to not wanting to feel depressed from their deaths. Even potential kids, etc would basically be the same mindset. The one big way being immortal, or at least, having a lifespan that goes thousands of years is a curse, is that everyone else dies before you. You'd think they'd have experienced this pain enough to be able to deal with it in a way where they mourn, but then they move on in a healthy way. You get better with practice & what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and this applies to dealing with the death of loved ones and friends too. It never get's any easier, but they learn how to pick themselves up efficiently without letting it act as a dark cloud over their head for a long time.

However, even besides immortality, they're the rulers of Equestria, they may feel like that they couldn't devote enough time to family. Hell, every single time we see Celestia interacting with others, she's called away three seconds later. The problem with being a monarch and not a group of leaders.

Long rant aside I believe it's a possibility but probably unlikely they ever would.

I also guess that when one of the main reasonings for marrying as a monarch is to continue your bloodline and provide and heir to the throne, you don't need to when you can just live for practically ever anyways!

Indeed. my best guess for why Celestia and Luna have long lifespans and Cadence doesn't, is because the royal sisters are probably pure Alicorn blood, and had parents who were both alicorns. Cadence's father was probably a unicorn or pegasus. The life span trick may be due to pureness of blood, who knows. If that's the case, Celestia and Luna would probably think about the bloodline, only in the last stretch of their years.
