I don't quite know why you think that joining the Syndicate sounds like a bad bargain. Joining means you can live. The bonus side of being the President of Jerk Co. is that you can be selective with the tasks you choose to partake in, as a company (That being, choosing which employees do which tasks and then wallowing in the profits).
