I'm not too into books anymore. I also wouldn't be able to focus enough so it would take me a long long time to read a book.

what about poetry?

:okiedokielokie:

That's hurtful.

Don't take it the wrong way. Who likes to read at 13? well, I did... but that isn't the point

My point is that you wouldn't have said that a couple weeks ago if you asked the same question.

Poetry is shorter, so it would hold my attention more. But I'm not really into poetry.

Yeah, you're probably right. I admit it. But am I wrong? no. Kids hate reading

But I'm not really into poetry.

I'm not sure If I have read any poetry. If I had, I sure don't remember.

I'm more of a visual medium person.

I'm more of a visual medium person.

This is what I'm afraid of. People are too visual-oriented now. They disregard literature... read this, and tell me what you think:

"To Althea, from Prison"

When Love with unconfinèd wings

   Hovers within my Gates,

And my divine Althea brings

   To whisper at the Grates;

When I lie tangled in her hair,

   And fettered to her eye,

The Gods that wanton in the Air,

   Know no such Liberty.

When flowing Cups run swiftly round

   With no allaying Thames,

Our careless heads with Roses bound,

   Our hearts with Loyal Flames;

When thirsty grief in Wine we steep,

   When Healths and draughts go free,

Fishes that tipple in the Deep

   Know no such Liberty.

When (like committed linnets) I

   With shriller throat shall sing

The sweetness, Mercy, Majesty,

   And glories of my King;

When I shall voice aloud how good

   He is, how Great should be,

Enlargèd Winds, that curl the Flood,

   Know no such Liberty.

Stone Walls do not a Prison make,

   Nor Iron bars a Cage;

Minds innocent and quiet take

   That for an Hermitage.

If I have freedom in my Love,

   And in my soul am free,

Angels alone that soar above,

   Enjoy such Liberty.

Either that or I'm too lazy to pick out one period.

This is a type of disease in our culture. People are too damn lazy to even do themselves a favor and give something a chance. You aren't unique in not having the patience to read, but you are smart. I see that. So, I think you'd benefit from finding something to read that suits you.

My biggest reason for not reading is I'm ADHD and it's hard for me to remain focused and to stay committed without getting distracted and procrastinating about reading. It's much easier for me to focus on and digest something visual such as movies, tv shows, and video games. Even though I can perfectly imagine what I am reading. I could potentially take up to 6 months just to read a 300 page book, and by the time I get to the end, forget what happened in the beginning. So I stick with visual, but I do want to read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Percy Jackson was nice...

Thinking about reading Harry Potter...

Ditto

I'm going on vacation soon, I'll read Harry Potter 1 there.

I'll be back in 2 hours. :(

Well that's a good starting point. You should try a short story.

What interests me is the fact that this "ADHD" excuse is so widespread, and recent. Twenty, thirty years ago it wasn't the case. People have more distractions now, so they train themselves to be lazy and impatient. I'm not saying that you are, but every other person seems to say they have ADHD, and therefore, cannot be bothered to read a thing.
