Nightfall 3,950 August 23, 2012 Share August 23, 2012 Anyone else here going to a college or community college? Well, here's the place to discuss good points, bad points, points, and other things about the college (community or not) that you are going to! And yes, universities are allowed in this thread. Envy 6,175 August 23, 2012 Share August 23, 2012 I have finally transferred to university, and it's nice. Nice to actually feel like I'm in college and not just high school again. Not to tear down my community college because there were great professors there and I really did learn a lot. It's more that I had an perception of college that is being met much more by my university than my community college. So far the bad points have been how large the campus is and how much walking I have had to do. My community college I could walk around the halls of the entire campus in under ten minutes. Here, I can only through a small portion of the campus in that time. And since my Associates in Music did not transfer so perfectly I am all over the place as I still have general credits to take. So that means going throughout multiple buildings. Additionally a lot of that walking has to be done outside, which is not good for me. Sure, I enjoy the scenery, but it's still summer, and it's too hot for me. Yesterday I bought my books and my backpack was extremely heavy and I did so much walking. I'm still sore all over. Thankfully I have a safe place to put my bassoon case. Otherwise I might have not made it yesterday... Literally. But it's university. The classes are actually interesting (even the non-music ones). It's a very social environment. We actually have a marching band and a football team - and, for the very first time in my entire life I have team spirit for a college/school I am actually a part of. Tomorrow I won't have anywhere near as books to carry around, so I won't have to be so worn out. So that will be nice. I think it was mainly just yesterday since I bought all of the books at once. Now I will be able to not have to carry around all of them each day. 1 Everything needs more woodwind!
TheFabulousPony 102 August 23, 2012 Share August 23, 2012 I had to link that. I am terrible. As for college and what not... I am not doing it, but I will be doing something like that soon. Nightfall 3,950 August 23, 2012 Author Share August 23, 2012 Forgot to add, as I will now, I made this thread because I'm going to my first college course tonight at a local (big and popular) community college. I'm kinda intrigued at this... I have never taken a course outside of my house before until now. I'm excited and a slight bit nervous, but I'll get through it. Flow 1,629 August 23, 2012 Share August 23, 2012 I'm currently in a community college majoring in culinary arts, to tell you the truth, I actually wasn't interested in it at first, but after cooking stuff on my own, I've gotten real interested in it, however I ain't cooking anything in class yet. 1 OCs: Flow / Love Bloom
SpikeyWikey07 58 August 23, 2012 Share August 23, 2012 I'm back at Champlain St-Lambert college for another semester for Creative Arts. I've only been in one class for now, got an assignment and finished it already. Got one more to conclude my day. But what I'm really excited for is my drawing course I've taken. It's going to be great; I will be able to update my deviant art page with new pictures. As for negatives, I have humanities to deal with and UGH... I hate these courses but I must get through them! Another good point is that I've developed/improved my social ability here and I've made some new friends and caught up with some old ones as well. Hoping to have a great semester!! Hope for anyone posting to have a great one as well!!!
Flying Whales 311 August 23, 2012 Share August 23, 2012 Can I just ask how is everybody else getting through college? Right now I’m 19 going on 20 in December, I’m in community college right now. I’m living at home and I am lucky enough to have parents who are able to pay for my tuition and all that. I really want to get out of my house and right now for me it looks like the only want I’m going to be able to pay for college and get out of the house is the military. I don’t really mind joining but it’s not what I REALLY want to do, I’d just rather stay in school, get a degree, and start a career. Does anyone have some advice? PlunderSteed 1,252 August 23, 2012 Share August 23, 2012 I've been lazily working my way through my masters degree over the past couple years. Next year I'll have to buckle down and knock the rest of if out, work schedule pending. I’d just rather stay in school, get a degree, and start a career. Does anyone have some advice? You might consider joining the guard or reserves, while continuing to go to school. Of course, being part-time military might not pay enough for you to maintain your own residence. If you go active duty, you could theoretically continue college via night/weekend/online courses, while making enough to move out on your own (though you'd probably be required to live in the dorms at first, if you're not married). If it turns out that you like it, you might be able to finish a 4 year degree and apply to become an officer (easily twice the pay). Otherwise, you could learn what you can, gain some good experience and get out after you finish your commitment of however-many years (usually between 2 and 6). By the way, what are you studying? Evilshy 5,090 August 23, 2012 Share August 23, 2012 I'm starting at BYUI in a few weeks. Majoring in computer science, but that might change, depending on how things get while I'm there. I'm trying to stick to mostly core classes in the beginning anyway. Signature now 99% less edgy!
Taco Horse 116 August 23, 2012 Share August 23, 2012 I was supposed to be going to the Art Institute in Austin, but then my grandfather's condition got worse so I chose to stay and help take care of him will I attend the community college. Thankfully it still had a music engineering degree so I'll still learn what I need. So far its been pretty good but I'm only taking one or two classes at a time right now so I can focus on school and my grandfather. Believe me or not but my instructor last semester for my Music Business class was the booker for Flyleaf. I used to think that college in gental was going to be harder than high school, but as I said its been pretty much the same for me. http://www.youtube.c...eBrony/featuredA Machine For Pigs - #6 l Abduction - #6 l Outlast - #8 l Clive Barker's Jericho - #11 https://soundcloud.com/nick_rodriguez
null1 606 August 23, 2012 Share August 23, 2012 (edited) I just moved into my dorm today, ready to start my Freshman year studying Geosciences. I know basically no one here. Need to find out the Bronies here, create the herd. Maybe. I'm on the fifth floor here, new dorms. It's nice. I'd mention the name of my college that I was going to, but to be secure, I won't mention it in a public thread. If you're a Tennessee Brony starting out college, just ask. null1 606 August 24, 2012 Share August 24, 2012 Today at orientation, we had a sixty year-old mand rapping about how to be good student at college. It was rather... Awkward.
