What you can do to help her the most is to beat this motherbucker and take back the city. Then we can focus on helping her."

When Speedy awoke, she was lying in a back alley, relatively unharmed except for a stitch running up her side. Underneath one of her hooves was a note that said "You're working with us now, darling. Come to the Dirty Bits Casino for more information."

Speedy slowly got to her feet, her side a bit sore and still a little bit numb. She stumbled and leaned against one of the walls, and looked at the note.

"I... I better go..."

She looked at her side.

"No pointing in losing anything else..."

She slowly, and a bit painfully, limped down the street, ending up at the Dirty Bits Casino.

"I believe you are Miss Speedy? We have been awaiting you. The Burning King awaits you." They lead her to a room deep underneath the Casino, very cush, very comfortable. Behind a desk, reclining and looking smug, was Sunburn.

 

"Miss Speedy. I was wondering if you would choose to arrive. The consequences would be rather dire if you chose not to. Let me explain what your new job is."

She collapsed onto a chair.

"What did you take from me..? I mean, what did you do..?"

The pain and soreness was growing as the rest of the numbness wore off.

Any betrayal will result in termination. You've been with the cops less than a week. You do not value them more than your life. Furthermore, I have what you want. What you really want."

 

He tossed Speedy a high-power rifle and a thick wad of cash.

"I think a demonstration is in order," Sunburn said. He produced a controller console out of his desk and pressed a button. A fresh wave of pain shot through Speedy, completely consuming her mind with an all-encompassing, endless pain.

"Now, I'm sure you're not happy, so I'm going to forego offering you a celebratory drink and let you leave. All further money will be wired to your account. You know which one." He gave a knowing smile.

"I control every bucking criminal in this city and I'll be mooned if I am going to let a single one slip through my hooves. Now you are going to go along with my plans or else I am going to kill you and your little marefriend. Now get out of my office."

A very pretty bartender complied with speed, dropping a cider onto the table and snatching up the bits with all speed.

 

She came back moments later and placed a very fancy looking drink on the table, champagne. On it was a note:

Speedy looked at the fancy drink while taking a gulp of her cider. She stared at it for a bit longer, wondering if Sunburn was watching her. She took her right hoof and casually knocked the glass over, going back to sitting straight at the bar in her sulky mood.

"Sunburn, I'm pretty sure you can hear me.. You haven't put me in the best mood, so buck off."

Den acted like he hadn't heard, but Sapphire spiraled down into a unicorn. The halo moved back over her head. "Wits, you don't understand; in Den's mind, a threat to his family or friends is a threat to himself. He... Eliminates threats to himself. His words, not mine."

 

"So Greed and Gluttony at the same time. How hungry would you say you are?" Den smiled viciously and pulled out a baggie of Sapphires's brownies, "Sorry, you can't have them," he said, eating one."

 

"I don't LIKE being taunted!" Greed shouted. "And I don't need your hand outs. I can have anything I want! This battle was over the moment it started, and I'll prove it!" The shield wrapped around the lightning and shot it elsewhere. "You're not even special. You can't have uniqueness when all you do is steal from others." He ate another brownie.

Kaldr took the pleasure of freezing some of the cave water for himself, not that anypony around there could care less, or stop him.

He was disappointed when he finished searching the mines, they were nowhere to be see. "I need to make a reminder to cancel Christmas for that pony back at the station..." he mumbled under his breath, that is, if he had any breath.

He went back out of the cave and sighed, "Where else could they be then..."

Wits transferred a bit of energy from himself to Den and Nightfall, giving them a bit more power to work off of. If he was careful about his energy, he could drain some from the rune tar without risking his sanity. "Go get, guys."

"I'll make you regret saying that!" Greed shouted. He opened his mouth and sucked in the last bit of Nightfalls stolen energy then he closed his mouth shut and held onto his throat with one hoof as if he was trying to say that he was choking. "Falcon Screech!" he cried in a largely inaudible, high pitched voice. He opened his mouth wide and shot out a green and yellow ball accompanied by a loud roar.

 

"Den, don't let Sapphire get hit by that!" Jack rushed to say before the sound was too loud.

Sapphire-Den morphed to Den, both relishing the familiar shiver. Den punched the shield and it exploded in cone in front of him into the screech. Den jumped after it, planning to come down and punch Glutoneed. As he was jumping, his uniform melted into the black and white war-paint of a shaman, with the bone necklace and crown.

"Hard to dodge while your in the air, dumbass!" Greed faced Den with his opened mouth and fired another energy ball at him. The roar alone was loud enough to shatter the eardrums of a pony to close to him.

Wits acted quickly, yanking Den back with his telekinesis as quick as he could.

 

"Calm down!" he ordered. "You are NOT going to beat him like this. You're smarter than this, Den. Calm down and start thinking like a pony, not an animal!" He gave him a stern look to back up his confirmation.

Den looked at him grinning. He was strangely euphoric; must be Sapphire's influence. "Wits, I was going to jump at him and punch him, so you could shoot him. His head is getting hotter and hotter with each brownie I eat, just like every other bully I've fought in my life."

"Den," Wits face was a mask of worry. "Den, somethings wrong. Den, what's going on? Den, what's happening to you?" He looked grave, and began checking back from Greed/Gluttony to Den, tried to figure out what had happened. "We're here to prove that we are better, but this is happening. We need to make it stop."
