Which of the Mane 6 do you think has the least/most backstory?

I really hope S3 includes alot of backstory, except maybe for twilight. I'm sure it'll be thrown in there but she certainly isn't dieing from lack of backstory.

 

Not me x3 I'm fine with Scootaloo remaining without parents shown, as long as her and Dash start to develop a cute sisterly relationship :3 Something that I doubt they'll do, but I can hope </3 and have head canon.

Oomph. Tough question.

 

Most would say that Applejack has least background, but if you think about it, I'd say Rainbow Dash or Fluttershy have less background. Both only seem to show in Flight Camp and what happens that day.

 

Applejack actually gets a bunch of Family members shown, like in Apploosa, and how she ran away from how, and how she has other family in Manehattan.

Twilight has a lot of backstory, as well. Showing where Spike came from, her talent for magic, why she knows Celestia... She has a fair amount.

Pinkie.. Well, I can't really think for Pinkie. I say she doesn't even need a backstory to be as awesome as she is.

Rarity, I don't think we need to hear more about her backstory. It would seem just boring.

 

I think Fluttershy has the least background. All we know about her past is how she got her cutie mark and love for EVERYTHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING.

 

Rainbow Dash is close behind for least known. Though, we know her dreams, some milestones, how she went to Flight camp, the bullies who rivaled her... you know.

 

For Least known, I voted Fluttershy.

For Most known, I voted- I would have voted Twilight, but I really think Applejack has a lot to her backstory.

There are moments when I have considered this concept. The backstories of the Mane 6. While one can say that one pony has the least amount of backstory, and another has more. The reality as I see it, is that they all don't have enough. Why I think this is because the more a person knows about their favorite pony the more they can feel connected to them in that way. Especially if they share these things in common. I've often thought about Pinkie Pie. The obvious pink sheep of the family. I've wondered if she has ever felt like she doesn't belong in the Rock Family. I think of this in terms of how different she is from them in both appearance and personality. I for one still think she is a princess from long lost kingdom who through strange occurrences ended up in the Rock Families care. Yet I do not know any of this, canonically. I, like most people, have a headcanon when it comes to certain characters. Though unlike some people, I know this to be subjective, and as such I will not pander it as the truth. Rather my perceptions of how the canon can be represented.

 

Though this is part of what makes these characters so alive for some people. Their own ideas of these ponies of course. So for me, perhaps it is safe to say that there should always be a degree of mystery when it comes to our favorite ponies. So we can perceive what feels rights to us, what strengthens that bond, without being contradicted by canonical elements. An interesting thought that deserves further discussion, but I think this is enough for one post.

I agree, I've always wondered why pinkie pie lives with the cakes, and I didn't even know when I first watched the show that she did live with them. So its obvious it needs some explanation.

 

At first I did not see that to. It was just implied that she was there a lot because she likes to eat sweets. The episodes that showed that she lives there would be Party for one and Baby Cakes.

I still feel that it does need some explanation. Explanation is something I'm really hoping for in S3 It doesn't have to be full of it or anything but I'd like a good deal.

I personally think that Rainbow Dash has the least backstory.

 

While Fluttershy is a close second, we see a bit more of how she fared in Flight School, (Hurricane Fluttershy) and more of what happened to her after the Sonic Rainboom. (While we have no clue what happened to Rainbow Dash after that and how she wound up in Ponyville with the others)

 

Rarity has parents that were shown, and appears to have lived in Ponyville for most of her life. Pinkie shows her past on the Rock Farm with her family, (Credibility of it still in question) and many assume to have left to search for a happier life in Ponyville. Applejack has a simple backstory, with her one attempt at leaving turning into homesickness that led her back. And Twilight has the most in depth backstory, with her parents fueling her ambitions, her acceptance and rise in school work, and becoming Celestia's Protege while her brother became Captain of the Guard before she left for Ponyville.

 

Hopefully in Season 3 and future seasons, more insight into Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash's past will be shown. They are the only ones without any real family, and how they eventually ended up in Ponyville is unknown.

Um, I think some of you are voting for AJ with most backstory because she has the most relatives. More relatives =/=more backstory.

 

Anyway, what's introduced so far certainly doesn't give anything. She left for Manehatten, doesn't like it, and returns home. Which isn't all that interesting. It's also part of the reason why AJ gets so less attention in general.

 

RD has a good backstory; she races, and decides she likes it, and trains for the Wonderbolts for a long time, which turns into the pony we have now.

 

Fluttershy does have the least backstory. She knew how to communicate with animals after the fall, but that was it. We don't know anything else.

For Twilight we find out about her parents, siblings and her baby sitter. We also find out about how she became Celestia's student.

 

We know Pinkie Pie lived and worked on a rock farm with her parents and two sisters. We also find out that her real name is Pinkemena Pie.

 

Apple Jack's backstory was vague but at least we find out about her travels and her relatives.

 

Rarity pretty much has no back ground story but we find out about her parents and her sister at least.

 

Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash have no history except how they got their cutie marks. We never see their parents, siblings or any other relatives etc. I think there should be an episode explaining those two. O.O

Twilight easily has the most backstory of any member of the Mane Six. Aside from AJ, no other pony has received so much regarding their familial history. And we are often treated to see events through Twilight's point of view. If something goes awry, she is often the source of the solution (save for "Lesson Zero"). Furthermore, Twilight seems to be the only pony of the Mane Six who has a standard nuclear family unit: mother, father, and older brother. Rarity's parents appear fairly divorced from her interests; and we cannot assume Pinkie Pie was necessarily being truthful in her own backstory from "Cutie Mark Chronicles".

 

I voted for Fluttershy having the least amount of backstory. Her tale in "Cutie Mark Chronicles" was really a device for Dash's ultimate triumph in manifesting a sonic rainboom. While the other ponies seem to have dreams and aspirations, e.g., Dash wants to join the Wonderbolts, Fluttershy seems mostly content with what she has in the present. There is nothing wrong with her doing so, but her love of animals doesn't elaborate much on her background. The most we know about her is a result of Rainbow's antics.

I'd say Dash, Fluttershy and Rarity are the characters whose backgrounds we know the least about, although what with AJ's missing parents and pinkie's... Pinkieness I feel like there is just as much to be flushed out with them as the previous three. I feel like twilights backstory has been dealt with almost entirely, at least until the season 3 finale where her long lost twin sister falls in love with an alicorn who controls the earth and who is celestia's little brother

It's obvious that Twilight has the most backstory, besides the fact that she came to Ponyville from Canterlot on a mission to discover the magic of friendship. We know about her family, her brother shining armor, and what happened in her past life. Basically, we know Twilight Sparkle a lot more than we should (Or, we SHOULD know her...you know what I mean. )

 

Besides flight camp, Fluttershy has no backstory whatsoever. I would be interested in seeing more of her past life, and how she's so shy and all. How did she become so shy and how did she exactly become friends with Rainbow Dash? That's all we know about Fluttershy. She's kinda mysterious in a way when it comes to her past life.

For most backstory, everyone's said it - Twilight Sparkle.

 

It was a toss-up between Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash and Rarity for least backstory but I picked Rarity. We see her family in S2 E5 (which I can't remember the name of), with no backstory whatsoever. At least with Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash, we know something about what their life was like (Fluttershy was teased for being an unsuccessful flyer, Rainbow Dash was mocked for her laziness.) We don't know anything about Rarity's life as a filly.

Yeah I think AJ certainly could use some attention. She seems very bland to me and not that interesting. Proably due to her kinda lacking backstory.

I know I'd really like to see RD's parents aswell as fluttershy's. And I think twilight wins pretty easily on backstory. Pinkie is a wildcard since I don't know if I honestly believe her story or not. Being pinkie and all...

Personally, I think Rarity could've used some more to her backstory. She's a perfectionist, decorated a boulder, got a crowd's attention, Cutie Mark. End of discussion. But I think Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy are fine, because Pinkie was talking about how she was different from her family, like how she was bright pink, and then Fluttershy told how she was bad at flying and was made fun of. But, in general, I liked all the backstories

And obviously, most of us are wondering about Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy, too.

Well I do agree with you about Rarity. There is not much to go on her love for fashion and why she likes it. So it would be nice to find out more about that. But, as for the bullies at flight camp, they tell us why they make fun of Rainbow Dash and Flutershy. FS is made fun because she can't fly well and RD is just a hot head that does what she wants to do.

 

Also there is more to a backstory then just where did they live. I mean like Pinkie Pie for example. She did live on a rock farm, but now she lives in Ponyville. How did she get their, why did she leave the farm, and why does she live with the Cake family now?

While Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy's families haven't been touched upon at all, the pair have had multiple flashbacks to their time at Flight Camp, and "Sonic Rainboom" had a lot of hints of Rainbow Dash's backstory dropped by the bullies.

 

Pinkie Pie lived on a rock farm, and her family was very serious. That's all we know. Even then, Pinkie's a bit of an unreliable narrator, so we don't even know what parts of her story were true, and what parts were your typical Pinkie Pie exagerations or misunderstandings. Add to that the fact that Pinkie's living and working arrangements involve the Cakes, and you have even more unknown, yet important factors to her backstory.

Well, I think we know much more about Pinkie than Dash or Fluttershy. We've seen her family, what they did, and more or less how they interact. One thing I would say is that there seems to be more that we don't know about Pinkie though

Fluttershy's backstory is the least in my opinion and she seems to be losing more and more parts in the show. What I mean is that I think she's slightly being pulled out into a background character.
