Writing Advice

Well you need to be a better writer over all, if you read more that should help a bit :) . Also you should write more and practice, practice, practice. Ok, now when your writing your fan fics make sure all distractions are gone, this will help you focus on the writing, so your not watching T.V., or trying to play pong at the same time. Also make sure that you use descriptive words, so we get a sence and feel of whats happening, dont forget thoose 6 (basic) sences. Also remember that some of the most important parts are the begining and ending, you always want your story to be gripping, and its always nice when you read something with a good ending. Remember to use variation in your sentences, so not all short or all long (unless if your trying to do that). Remember when talking about the ponys dont always say the characters name like: "Rainbow dash" you could just say, "Dash" or "Dashy". Also remember to keep to the characters characters, (unless if the point is that one of them is steping out of their regular characters) so keep RD tomboyish, fluttershy shy, ect. Thoose are some good tips for now, really im to lazy to write more and proof read.

Basically, what I do a lot is play http://www.youtuberepeater.com/watch?v=4oZM4Z7W0_M this, while on Google Docs (or Drive, whatever you want to call it), with a few sodas handy, and just spill my brain all over my keyboard. I actually never write anything, I just make up a story, and read along as my hands are doing the work, if you want some complex thinking.

The thing that I suck at the most is coming up with a name for the story, and coming up with a continuous flow of ideas to write about. That's where the soda comes in, to make me stop and relax, take a break from writing to sit there and think about what happens next. My biggest fanfic (still in progress) is 8000+ words!

Also, try to come up with ways to tug at the reader's heartstrings. Readers love it when you manipulate them into doing things they normally would not (crying, mortified, etc.). So, for example, a line from one of my most recent creations:

"She sighed as she went over to the cabinet to grab a cloth for the spill."

You can turn this into:

"A sigh escaped her mouth as she sluggishly trotted over to one of her cabinets to grab a cloth for the spill."

Doesn't this paint an even more clear picture for the reader? All I can say to you now, is just to have fun with it.

One of the main keys is to call on previous knowledge when writing a story. So some of the best advice I can give you is to, READ, READ, READ! Try to take a look at as many fanfics as you can, this'll help you get ideas, learn what works and what doesn't, and expose you to different styles of reading. However, don't plagiarize anything...

All you have to do is vomit out all your ideas, you can correct and perfect them later, but it's faster and more efficient to just type out the first ideas that come to mind. Also, having thesaurus.com handy is useful. And practice makes perfect, this goes for everything.
