I think that demotion is a bit of a harsh word. It sounds like he has had something important stripped away from him, when really, it should be more of a relief. I think resignation is a better, nicer term, and even if it was something bad, then resignation makes it sound nicer.

(This reminds me of the Neikos demotion thread)

 

Dev, Tish, you will be missed. I think you were one of the more active moderators and I've always enjoyed reading your posts. I wish you luck in whatever you plan to do next, whatever that may be, and remember, stay strong.

I like how some people are reacting as if he was leaving . He's demoted; all he lost is power over weaklings, but that's it . He's still the same ol' same ol' as always. Devin was mah favorite mod, though. He always seemed like the type who was more of a user than a mod

Directly ripped from the FAQ, Section "Moderation":

 

New moderators are added to the forum only when deemed necessary by the site's existing staff. There is no sign-up process or application system for moderator positions; it is an invite-only job, and one that requesting or attempting to 'sign up' for will only result in disqualifying yourself from.

 

We strongly believe that the best moderators are the ones that have very little actual interest in being a moderator in the first place, and instead accept the position solely for the sake of helping to improve the community as a whole.

 

To be honest, it's a rubbish job that involves a fair bit of stress and work. You don't want to be a moderator.

 

It takes quite a bit of commitment to the community to be a moderator in any case, however. It's not something you would want to "sign up" for if you're unsure of yourself in often really tricky situations.

If Molestia's apprentice becomes a mod, then certainly people will draw some conclusions as to the current moderating team's... interests and hobbies.

 

Also asking to become a mod is like shooting yourself, then setting yourself on fire, then falling off a skyscraper, then drowning in the ocean, then being eaten by a shark.

I heard that Devin was one of the best moderators on the forums. It sad that he's leaving the team and going back to just a normal member.

 

Oh well, I suppose there's going to be somepony else taking his spot.
