Here's my reasoning:

 

Phone? Psh. I've got a laptop and a magical moden - anyone I want to talk with via telephone can be contacted via Skype.

 

Books? That's cool, but I can just jump on Wikipedia if I need to learn anything about anything. Plus I can just torrent a ton of educational ebooks or something if I want to spread some destructive know-how.

 

I'd be milking the laptop+modem to a ridiculous extent, really. I think having access to the near totality of human knowledge would be quite a useful bartering tool; albeit one that would have to be used carefully and responsibly.

 

As for the meat... I can't live without my steaks. Sue me.

Expensive prospect, that - not to mention one that sounds extremely awkward. I don't mind being a two legged freak.

 

And am I the only person that finds the cost of the bow/arrow combination to be completely unbalanced when placed against the pistol? One thousand rounds of ammunition for a lower price? You'd have to reuse your original arrows sixty six times in order to get the same use out of them that you'd get out of the pistol, which costs less.

Given the nature of Equestria, that it is an industrialized society with access to just about almost anything I could want with a little bit of money...

 

I would take:

 

The Laptop: 19 points.

The Modem: 14 points.

The Solar Charger: 3 points.

1500 Bits: 12 points.

The toothbrush and toothpaste: 1 point.

The zippo lighter: 1 point.

 

Basically, the last two items are just to round out my points spent to an even fifty. The laptop, modem, and charger, all of which are probably beyond Equestrian technology(particularly the ability to communicate with Earth's internet) cost thirty-six together. The 1500 bits is another twelve, so I was left with two points. While I can almost certainly get toothpaste, toothbrushes, and a lighter of some kind with money, it doesn't hurt to go ahead and get infinite of both. I'm not planning on foraying into the Everfree, so there's absolutely no use for any kind of weaponry given how peaceful Equestria is. (I mean, really, guys, what the hell are you planning for with those weapons? You going to try to take over Equestria? GOOD LUCK. If you're lucky, you'll be imprisoned for life. If you're not lucky you'll be gored by a unicorn's horn.)

 

Some of the things I considered included the shades--because sunglasses are always useful--and things like the machete or the meat sack, due to the probability that meat will be hard to come by. However, given the Griffon population and given that Equestrians raise pigs and a few other non-sapient farm animals, and given that fishing isn't exactly that difficult, I figured it wouldn't be an issue to acquire a small amount of meat for myself when I needed it. I don't need that much anyway.

 

I outright rejected the drugs, because no, and things like the books because they're redundant given access to the Earth's internet. The love potion is just plain wrong. While I admit I was tempted by things like access to non-alcoholic drinks and almost picked that over the toothpaste and lighter, I figured I could easily get anything like that in Equestria anyway. Admittedly the toilet paper would have been nice, but again, Equestrian society almost certainly has that available for purchase, and if they don't have that, they have something even better considering how hard it would be for ponies to use toilet paper. (They probably have some kind of magical methods of cleaning that is a lot more efficient and comfortable, locked into a nice little Magitek device.) The survival kit intrigued me as well, but unless I go camping or something I won't need it.

 

So those are my choices. I expect the bits will be spent first on spare clothing and other important things, including shelter, as well as possibly other little fees I might need to pay in order to secure the knowledge I need to get a decent paying job. Granted, I could probably just sell information for chunks of change, but I'd prefer to found a business instead, based upon some more extensive manufacturing techniques and so on--invent devices they don't have yet, that kind of thing. To do that I need capital, so I'd have to carefully invest my initial bits and probably work a not so fantastic job for a few years before I'd get anywhere.

 

Ultimately, though, this thread is fascinating. It reveals a lot about what people think is important.
