movies/tv Innocence of Muslims

I noticed this topic, and couldn't help but throw in my two bits.

I haven't seen the film- not because of the content, but because of the fact they blocked Youtube here in Pakistan.

As Kyronea and AnoniPony pointed out, the cultural differences are there and are a major reason behind the state of Islam in Middle East and South Asia. (Though I believe that Ataturk's abolishment of the Ottoman Empire along with the Caliphate and the replacement of Sharia law with a proper modern law system made Turkey more tolerable).

However, the outrage over the film was very appalling.

Sure, it must have pulled the strings of the thoroughly devout, but that's no reason to burn cinemas, destroy stores and kill each other (about 28+ dead). Meanwhile in Turkey, peaceful protests took place, pamphlets were distributed. Islam is said to be a religion of love and tolerance-however, it seems like most of those who protested in places such as Indonesia and Pakistan completely missed the point and misconstrued it to the boiling point.

I sincerely think that the protests had little to do with religion and had more to do with social issues such as illiteracy and inequity; the film being somewhat of a scapegoat. If there was going to be a protest, it should've been against the bloodshed in Syria.

...

(gives his two bits)

Oh boy...

As a Muslim myself, I could only laugh my asses off at this thread, the video, and the entire situation. This kind of shit seemingly happens on yearly basis, us Muslims would never be left alone :/

Stupid people made an offensive video (not really sure you can call that terrible stuff a movie), stupid Muslims get angry, normal people get pissed on how easily provoked the Muslims are and started dissing retorts, the normal Muslims now get upset while the stupid Muslims is now totally furious. It's a self-sustaining circle.

So you're calling me a terrorist sympathizer? All I'm saying is that not every Muslim protestor is a terrorist. Maybe al-Qaeda had something evil planned for the 11th anniversary. Maybe they didn't. WE DON'T KNOW. The US Government assumed it and al-Qaeda has denied it, so there's no factual evidence. I'm just saying never assume stuff unless it's claimed to be the truth.

She never called you a sympathizer, nor did she say every protester is a terrorist. Also, it should be said that not every terrorist is some guy who lives in the mountains with an AK-47 under his pillow. Plenty are just normal people, and that's the point. They act all normal until the time is right and they can carry out whatever plan they have. I am NOT saying that every student is a terrorist, I'm saying it is possible that some were. It would be convenient to have some seemingly normal people carry out an attack, because then the organization can say "hey, it wasn't us, it was some normal guys that you pushed too far."

Somebody attacked our embassy and is now denying it? Oh, big surprise there >_>

Although, the fact remains that terrorist groups DO often take credit for attacks, because that's how they send their message. So it is a bit odd that, if it was AQ, they have denied it. Although, they could have other reasons, such as what I said above. It's not like we know exactly how they work. Before 9/11, I doubt anybody thought an act of terrorism that big was even possible.

On the other hand, the fact that it took place on the anniversary of 9/11 is too big to be a coincidence, IMO. Also, do you really think a bunch of angry students can throw together a successfully attack on multiple American Embassies (some of the most protected buildings in the world) overnight?

Also, for anybody who doesn't see why it's so bad, imagine you're Christian (or if you ARE Christian, remain so), and somebody made a movie with Jesus participating in brutal, gay, pedophiliac gang rapes or something while shooting up heroine and stealing shit. Or something like that.

What no one was calling attention to about this movie was the fact that the guy who made it was a Coptic Christian from Egypt. Those guys are persecuted over there. In fact, I hear the movie even goes over that. I can't blame the guy for being bitter. It's not like this was made by a white American who'd never met a Muslim in his life.
