Espionage 113 January 12, 2012 Share January 12, 2012 Actually, I worked this out in another thread (dominant and recessive traits all over the place...) Basically, genetics and biology state that an Alicorn can only be born from two Alicorn parents, or two Earth Ponies (and quite a bit of luck.) How Earth Ponies? The alleles for neither Pegasus nor Unicorn will be present: A Pegasus with a recessive gene for Unicorn + A Unicorn with a recessive gene for Pegasus. Why not? Alea Jacta Est May I Steal Your Soul? Fghik 360 January 12, 2012 Share January 12, 2012 How Earth Ponies? The alleles for neither Pegasus nor Unicorn will be present: A Pegasus with a recessive gene for Unicorn + A Unicorn with a recessive gene for Pegasus. Why not? I put Wings and Horns as the recessive traits. I put NOT having them as dominant traits. I know it's a bit backward and won't make sense at first. But think about it; why else is it more likely to be an earth pony than anything else? Why else would there be far many more Earth Ponies? Ww (an earth pony, but holds allele for wings) WW (no alleles for wings whatsoever) Hh (earth pony, but holds allele for horn) HH (no alleles for horns whatsoever) ww (wings) hh (horn) So naturally, the only ways to get an alicorn would be a cross between a wwhh (alicorn) and another wwhh (alicorn.) OR a cross between a WwHh (earth pony, but holds the alleles) and another WwHh (or even a wwhh.) It's a bit topsy-turvy to think of NOT having a trait as a dominant allele. But it works the same for not having attached earlobes (aa is attached.) Or not having a widows peak (ww is straight hairline.) 1 But what do I know? I'm just a stupid kid. ҉ .Eternal ¸.•'´¯Chaos¯´'•.¸Comes¸.•'´¯With¯´'•.¸Chocolate¸.•'´¯Rain ҉
Tom The Diamond 1,831 January 12, 2012 Share January 12, 2012 (edited) They aren't immortal. If they were, then they wouldn't age however Celestia and Luna aren't even mentioned during the Tribal Wars in the Heart's Warming Eve episode. Yeah, the flag. But that's a play and it wouldn't be viewer friendly (in lore and in actual viewers) if it were the Equestrian flag of the old world. I believe they weren't mentioned in the play because they weren't relevant to the play. It was about how Equestria was founded, not how Celestia and Luna came into power. The same reason Discord wasn't mentioned either and only got a cameo, even though we know we came into power too. They wouldn't bore the audience with something that didn't have anything to do with the story. Edited January 12, 2012 by Tom the Diamond

I'm sure talking about Draconequiss (or however you spell that) laying waste to all equestria, only to be stopped by the powers of friendship is plenty exciting. Maybe that will be the "Summer Play." Pony Joe 583 January 13, 2012 Share January 13, 2012 (edited) I highly doubt that she or Luna are immortal because simple fact that they are called princesses means that, at one point, there had to be either a king or queen for them to be descended from. Of course, we all know the REAL reason why they're called princesses (freaking Hasbro) but seriously, why not run with it? I like to think that: 1. Alicorns have a lifespan of about 1500 years 2. Celestia and Luna's mother and father were the first rulers of Equestria 3. Their parents are either under intensive care (too weak to control the sun, moon, and stars) or died before either Celestia or Luna could be declared queen. Edited January 13, 2012 by Pony Joe That's really all there is to say on the matter.

Luriel Maelstrom 253 February 10, 2012 Share February 10, 2012 Actually, there is! Look at the filly closest to Twilight on the right. Enough said. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=5TwDtb0D_Ig Actually, there is! Look at the filly closest to Twilight on the right. Enough said. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=5TwDtb0D_Ig I usually think about that, that creaters of the show put easter eggs all over the episodes so that Alicorn is just for the show. ~ I'm in love with my own OC Luriel Maelstrom ~
Lambda Lumis 23 May 7, 2016 Share May 7, 2016 I think because shes an alicorn she can live for almost if not forever. However that doesn't mean she cant die in a fight.
Phanact 333 May 7, 2016 Share May 7, 2016 How could one pony live so long? I remember thinking it was not the same pony, when they mentioned a pony named Celestia who was around a 1000 years ago. But now,I'm not so sure. I always assumed she was immortal, or at least living for a really long time.
Leere 8,291 May 8, 2016 Share May 8, 2016 No She just have really, really, REALLY long lifespan. "And from the depths of chaos a voice spoke to me and said ‘Smile, and be happy, things could be worse’ - and thus I smiled, and was happy, and things got worse." MrDiablolord 0 May 27, 2016 Share May 27, 2016 I'm afraid Celestia or Luna aren't eternal at all! Their lives as Alicorns began some time in the past when they died and were reborn. Neither are they immortal. They live for very long but finite periods of time, ranging from Several thousands of years (Millions of human years) but When they pass away, they are reborn as some other sort of being, perhaps a different type of Pony,a Deva of a heavenly planet, perhaps a human or something beyond comprehension. (If lucky, they might be reborn again in a couple of eons since Flurry heart will bring forth a new age of alicorns.) They're are not morally perfect ((no living being is)) Equestira may be a beautiful and happy place that lacks human passions and desires, but some of them are capable of ignorance and suffering. The actual lifespan of an alicorn or a pony is unknown at the moment, But like humans and animals, they can also Die by Natural causes. Equestria has a different time period. then other planes of existence. for One Day in Equestria is one human Year in the human realm. So a whole pony year in Equestria is 365 human years in the human realm. ((There you go.))
powerpuff-tsubasa 448 May 28, 2016 Share May 28, 2016 i think celestia and luna both counts as immortals since they were all possessed with strong magic powers
cmarston1 5,960 May 28, 2016 Share May 28, 2016 I am pretty sure that they just have a really really long lifespan. My headcanon is that how long of a lifespan an alicorn has is based on the type of magic that they provide for Equestria. Cadence and Twilight would have regular pony lifespans due to them being the princesses of love and friendship, both of which are strong, have the capability of dying. Seeing how Celestia and Luna raise and lower the sun and moon, meaning that their magic is based on celestial bodies that last for billions of years, it would make sense for them to live a very long time. Thrond 3,264 May 29, 2016 Share May 29, 2016 The assumption is that she is, or at least that she's really long-lived. Although, my own headcanon is that her lifespan is linked to that of Equestria's sun. She lives as long as the sun lives, and when the sun dies, so does she. Which is pretty much immortality, because she would probably have died in the supernova anyway.
MrDiablolord 0 May 30, 2016 Share May 30, 2016 For each Kalpa, a Celestia and a luna is born till the next kalpa where they will die and be reborn again.
Splashee 28,580 August 26, 2020 Share August 26, 2020 Until she give up her Princess Role, she will be immortal. Then she becomes a dust cloud. I think the show would have gone the Star Wars way, making her some kind of ghost spirit that would come back to guide the hero (who was that again, Starlight Shimmer?)
