video First logo W/ GIMP, any good?

So, I just made this real quick for my friend while he's over, introduced him to the wonders of Gimp 2.8 (Gimp Paint Studio) and made this within atleast 30 minutes. Is this any good? Just out of curiosity, if I need to make any changes to it.

the concept of the logo is ok I guess, but it looks bad quality, the letters don't have depth and it's hard to notice the difference from the backgorund, and you used too much black shadow as well, if you give them a more subtle shading and if you use more whites gradients and effects, you could get a more shiny cromated effect in them. the bg looks pretty good, you can keep it.

the photo lenses look good enough, but you should put them outside of the letters and not inside

I'm personally not gonna nitpick at every little detail so I'll point out the biggest things I see here for some Constructive Criticism.

 

Your letters look very plain and choppy, most notably the S border.

 

The bottom wording "Play Skidrow", the word Play in it melds too deeply in the background so it's very unnoticeable.

 

Your biggest problem I feel? We have no idea WHAT this logo is supposed to be for whether it be the band, game, place or any other innumerable things about it; adding in what this logo is for would help better criticize it better.

This helped me understand what I've done wrong and need to fix pretty good, along with Motion Spark of course. Thanks for the critique! (and Motion Spark ) To your last sentence, this logo is for his youtube account, nothing big but just something to replace his old logo. I'll make shure to make the fixes you (guys) pointed out
