Black Friday 2012

Gears of Halo Duty V

Recommended Posts

Black Friday is just a little over a week away, and with it comes a new chance at getting some new stuff at some awesome prices.

Last year I decided to experience it firsthand at midnight at a Best Buy, and it was just a huge hectic mess. But it was incredibly fun as well, to see so many people camping outside and just frantically grabbing everything they could when the doors opened. I learned a lot from that experience, and plan on going somewhere again this year, if anything just for the excitement and to have some hectic fun on my birthday. Headphones, some Xbox accessories, a new gaming chair and some (of course) MLP stuff are what I'm gonna hunt down for.

So, what do you plan on doing come Black Friday? Will you raid the nearest Toys R Us, camp out for some electronics, or just stay home and avoid the commotion? Got something or somewhere you're gunning for this year?

Also, have some nice shopping music.

My favorite part of black Friday is going on American news channels and looking at all the desperate shoppers start a riot over a new Mario game.

Haha, I hear ya. Part of the fun is just seeing how crazy some people get during the day. All in good fun, so long as no one gets hurt or anything.

I am so glad I don't work in retail anymore, that was a horrible experience.

Last year I waited inside of a Walmart for six hours to get a 40" TV for $250. It was pretty fun though. However, I doubt I'm going to be doing that again this year, especially since it doesn't appear that our local Walmart is doing a midnight event :/

Wouldn't know I've never had to deal with Black Friday... it sounds horrid though, I've heard of people getting crushed to death.

I am not going anywhere on that day, if I have to work that day I will and then just head straight home. If I want to see a bunch of brain dead zombies I will watch the Walking Dead thank you very much, getting a good deal is one thing but rioting and trampling people to death over material goods is really a sad commentary on the downfall of our society.

Black Friday is a sick abomination of the American people. A rush of greed over a holiday that is supposed to be about anything BUT greed. I personally find it to be a disgusting "tradition" and wish that people would stop going out on Thanksgiving (Yes. Retailers are now opening THANKSGIVING NIGHT) and encouraging corporate America to rip their employees away from their families on the holidays. Long ass hours starting OCTOBER, and hey, OPENING ON THANKSGIVING? That is just plain WRONG. And it's all thanks to the American consumer's greedy spirit and willingness to go along with the whole debacle. Having worked the holiday retail madness, I can only say that my heart goes out to those forced to work the long hours of essential slave labor (You don't get paid extra to deal with holiday assholes, and the only extra pay you MAY get is working xmas eve), and that I will NOT be participating in any Black Friday bullshit.

I will do my regular shopping during regular business hours, and heartily thank any employee I may encounter for all their hard work this holiday season, wish them a Merry Christmas and I hope everyone who reads my post does the same.

Greed greed greed sham, I mean, Isn't every american holiday act like a marketing technique anyway? And "True meanings" sadly, don't exist in us anymore, which really suck. Just look at Easter, Halloween, Valentines day, and only reason people look up to Christmas now is to get presents. Ya, that's why everyone loves Christmas because it's when people get things. I look up to it because it's one of the only times I can spend time with my family, like exclusively, and I never get to do that.

Besides, Santa was just made as an advertisement for coca cola, The real man is saint Nicholas, who probably died a thousand years ago or something.

Oh, and nice rant.

I work on Black Friday... In a Mall... Serving food... Next to the food court...

It's not gonna be pretty...

Even worse though, the coworkers who have been there the longest now are treating it as a game to see how much we sell in a certain time...

The most I've ever participated in Black Friday is when I've gone to Shoney's for the breakfast buffet and enjoyed the sights from a booth window. There's no feeling quite like the one you get when watching people blow through red lights, skidding through turns to cut someone off with inches to spare, and seeing the same car circle a parking lot for the 9000th time in search of a space, then thinking to yourself "I'm glad I'm safe in here with a warm cup of coffee and some pancakes."

Black Friday sales are rarely better than what you'll see any other week of the year. Unless you manage to get to a store within 10 minutes of it opening you won't be getting any spectacular deals. There's also usually a limit on how many of something an individual customer can get, so it's not like you can buy up all they have of a particular thing and sell it for a fortune. By camping outside of the store or getting up before dawn and fighting your way through a horde of hostile people, you're saying that the time, gas, frustration, and potential injuries are worth less than whatever money you're going to save on your purchases. I can think of nothing that would compel me to spend that much energy to save so little money.

The Samsung Galaxy S III is suppose to be marked at about 98 cents so it will definetly be worth the wait.

Are you sure there's no contractual obligation, either signing up for a new one or renewing your existing one to get the deal?

I don´t have an idea what the hell is that black friday, but I googled it out and I´m not surprised I didn´t know, cuz it´s a USA thing.

But I´m probably going to buy some books anyway. Because book shopping is the best shopping.

Try to try again

To see yourself again from time to time.

We don't have Black Friday here in Finland anyway, so it doesn't even matter.

Same over here in Germany. We don't even have thanksgiving, after all. Hell, we don't even have most of the shops open on Sundays :P

I'm still going christmas shopping on Black Friday, there just won't be any massive sales, really...

Me three!

In Taiwan barely anyone celebrates Christmas anyways, but we live in a neighborhood with tons of Ex-Patriots so you still see decorations. There are very few sales anywhere but you can still get a good bang for your buck at any local mall while doing Christmas shopping.

Black friday is completely frightening and not like how it used to be. So I'm sticking with the whole cybersunday thing, I think that's when it is?

Actually I believe it's Cyber-Monday. And yes, going out now actually poses as a risk rather than an experience, which is kind of sad to see it get like this.

Yeah cyber Monday! I remember "back in the old days" when you'd wake up at 4am for a store and there were people just not as rampant and blood thirsty 8( it's really sad. It used to be fun!

I hear ya completely. It seems like what was a fun adrenaline rush is now a full blown stampede that actually gets people hurt. Oh well, hopefully nothing too bad will happen this year.
