"Sh-Shadow..." Rouge meekly told him. "...Ugh." She flew away, but she wasn't fleeing the scene. She settled herself in a tree and thought about her next move.

 

"Shadow ain't acting normal...I don't know what's going on, but Knuckles seems to think the Maria is fake, but i'll watch for now to see what's going on. If things get bad...well...then i'll flee."

 

Rouge nodded at her brilliance, hid in the shadow's to watch them fight, while putting the Elements in a leather sack where she kept all of her other jewels and gadgets.

Sonia stood still as the alicorn princess stood at the door. Rarity was a little shocked to see princess Celestia at her door, "oh gosh, please do come in princess." She said.

 

Manic on the other hand was practically ignoring everything that was going on, he just wanted to tinker with his board and fix the stability of the bord when going at high speed.

Sally stared in slight shock "is that...?" she asked trailing off "yes this is one of my aunts Princess Celestia, don't worry she is very kind" Cadence whispered to her friend before walking up to her aunt "Aunt Celestia this is Sally she is the princess of Mobius" she said introducing her friend but when her aunt mentioned something was wrong, her smile turned into a frown. Sally cleared her throat a bit "what is it? what's happened your Majesty?" Sally asked worriedly.

 

Meanwhile Pinkie was eating another cupcake and about to offer the Princess one when she suddenly began to shiver violently "u-u-uh-oh...i-i-'m getting the s-s-shivers and you k-k-know what that m-m-means" Pinkie said stuttering through her shivering.

While Knuckles and Shadow were fighting Spike continued to watch in the background. "If they keep on like this they might destroy the whole forest. I gotta tell Sonic and Twilight, they'll know what to do." Spike then started to run off in the direction of Ponyville hoping to warn the others before it was too late.

"What... did... you... just... say?" Robotnik said grimly as he turned toward Snively, slowly approaching him before lifting the trembling subordinate by his collar, "The Hedgehog knows that we are in operation? And who is responsible for this slip of security? The Badniks? Those loathsome changelings? Perhaps a pony managed to get free from the occupation and tell Sonic and his accursed friends of my conquest? Or maybe," Robotnik threw Snively to the ground in front of the remaining quivering ponies, as well as the changelings encircling them. "More likely it was you, you never were very bright. All of my plans were perfect, ARE perfect." Robotnik took a few step toward Snively, "the only flaw with them would be spotty execution, from bumbling, incompatant allies." Robotnik was looming over Snively at this point.

 

Fortunately for Snively, the parts and machinery, as well as the roboticizer and malfunctioning E-100 series Badnik, had arrived, being carried by most of the team he sent off to retrieve them. "... This can wait. Egg pawns 2-6, carry the E-100 unit to the primitive research center here, remaining egg pawns, egg Robos 2 and 3, begin rebuilding the Death Egg into a defensible position. Egg Robo 4," Robotnik cast a cold gaze upon the remaining ponies of Baltimare. "Begin the roboticization process on these mongrels, then put them to work on the restoration of the Death Egg, I will be in at the research center, remodeling it into my new lab, Do NOT disturb me." Robotnik emphised his last order as he entered his EggMobile and headed toward the research center.

"Princess Celestia!" Twilight and Applejack both exclaimed before kneeling out of respect to the Princess of the Sun. Twilight then spoke up. "Please excuse my rudeness Princess, but what do you mean something has happened?" Twilight asked with a puzzled expression on her face. Applejack walked over to her little sister and tussled her mane a it before putting her hoof around her shoulder and pulling her in closer, Applejack could tell by the tone of Clestia's voice that something big and serious had ouccured, and she wasn't looking forward to the reveal of the information.

"eeRRRRRAGH!" Knuckles smashed his massive fist into the ground causing a. Huge chunk of rock to erupt from the impact, he then thrust the chunk toward the chaos spear that Shadow had flung, the resulting collision caused the chunk to explode. The explosion caused a smokescreen to be kicked up, suddenly, out of the cloud of smoke, Knuckles shot out towards Shadow. "If you wanna spend your time with some fake representation of your past be my guest!" Knuckles said as he closed the distance between Shadow. "But you will NOT keep me from my Emerald!" Knuckles rose his fist high over his head before bringing it down, like a hammer, toward the crown of Shadow's head.

As he got close to Sugarcube Corner he noticed that Princess Celestia herself had arrived and considering the circumstances Spike wasn't sure if he should be happy or worried to see her, especially with the concerned look on her face. "Oh hello Princess." Spike said giving a quick bow before rushing over to Twilight. "Sonic, Twilight, we sorta have a problem. Like a big problem." Spike said in a somewhat quiet tone. "When Knuckles and I went to Zecora's hut nopony was there. On top of that Knuckles just randomly walked away to find Shadow with a human girl, I think Shadow called her Maria. Anyway, now Knuckles and Shadow are fighting and we still have no idea where Fluttershy is."

"Chaos Control!" Shadow yelled out freezing time and leaving Knuckles vulnerable.

while also reverting time to it's normal state. "Guardian or not, you can't break free of my Chaos Control. Just give up now and perhaps you'll still be around to look for the emerald your suppose to be protecting."

The changeling stared into the red, unfeeling eyes of the carbon copy of Sonic the Hedgehog.  It was able to bring a wicked smile to its face even though it was grabbed by the neck, inches from death. "It would be wise that you do not cross us and our queen, tool."  The changeling simply said as its horn started to glow a sickly green.  It launched a stun spell that repelled Metal Sonic off of it, knocking the metal being thirty feet away.  A grin popped up on the changeling's face as it regained its freedom.  "Ahhh, good.  If I had not partaken in that bountiful feast at Baltimare, I would have no chance to escape."  The creature thought to itself as it took the form of Sonic the Hedgehog.  "Smell ya later, Chrome Dome."The fake Sonic said aloud to the carbon copy as it sped along through the trees.  The changeling estimated that it would have about 3 minutes before Metal Sonic would get back up and it wanted to be as far away from it as possible.

Snively watched with fearful eyes as the doctor started to tower over him.  "N-no!  That's n-not true!"Snively stuttered out to the doctor. In this case he was right, but somehow it had a feeling that Doctor Robotnik and his nephew had more than their fair share of being at odds with each other.  Suddenly, the torment stopped when Doctor Robotnik disregarded the problem for now and headed for his field laboratory.  "Y-yes sir!  Thank you, sir!"  Snively stammered after him, who was probably out of earshot now.

 

Snively sighed to himself, thinking of how close his cover and possibly his life was about to end right there.  Instead, Dr. Eggman's fake nephew turned to watching over the process of the reconstruction of the Death Egg Mk. II.  "Great, now the only thing that could make him feel in a much better mood is if we get a Chaos Emerald."  Snively said to himself, looking over a logistics clipboard.

 

"I believe we might have what we are looking for."  A voice said from behind Snively.  It was a changeling that was holding a certain green Emerald.  Snively's eyes widened as well as a long grin formed on his face.  "Yes...  This is exactly what we need."  Snively said to the changeling, accepting the Emerald.  Snively decided to take this opportunity to find Dr. Eggman at his laboratory.  "Dr. Robotnik!  We have some good news.  I have something that might get you in a good mood."  Snively said in a slightly wicked cheerful voice, running for Eggman's direction.

Princess Celestia looked into the direction of Cadence who was in the middle of introducing her to Sally Acorn.  Celestia gave a small nod to Sally before looking towards Sonic.  "Sonic the Hedgehog, it seems like it has been so long since you have visited our world last time.  I am sorry that your return hasn't been well-received."  Princess Celestia said somberly to the blue hedgehog.

 

Sonic just shrugged at her.  "Eh, it's no biggie your Majesty.  It's sort of been a habit that our arrival is never just all about the party." Sonic said breezily to the regal Alicorn.  Rainbow Dash gave a courteous bow to the princess out of respect and gave a sharp nudge to Sonic for not doing so.  Sonic just glared half-seriously at Rainbow Dash before looking towards Princess Celestia again.

 

The CMC looked at the event with a hint of concern and worry on their faces.  AppleBloom nudged AppleJack before speaking to her.  "AppleJack, what's goin' on here?"  AppleBloom asked inquisitively as Sweetie Belle clung to Rarity's hoof, looking back up at her respective sister as well.

 

"I'm sorry if I am causing everyone worry, but I'm afraid that I must say it..."  Princess Celestia said to the group.  Before she could go any further, Spike came in at an inopportune moment.  Sonic, Rainbow Dash, Princess Celestia, and various others arched their eyebrows at the panting dragon who looked like he was finished on running a marathon.

 

 

"TWILIGHT! SONIC!" Spike yelled out as he entered Ponyville. Sonic listened in with a relaxed stance as well as Amy who happened to next to Sonic.  The mention of Maria's name and existence there sparked great surprise in Amy.  "What?!  But...  But that can't be, Spike!"  Amy said aloud before Sonic could voice his own opinion.  In this case, Sonic knew that it couldn't be right.  He remembered from his excursion on the Space Colony ARK that Shadow's close friend and Eggman's cousin, Maria Robotnik, was killed on the ARK over fifty years ago.  He found out from the final logs of Professor Gerald Robotnik who at the time seemed like a sad, pained old man who lost something very precious to him and tried to destroy the world for it.  He knew it was impossible, but given some of the things that he has seen over the years as a freedom fighter he knew that anything was possible.

 

"Something's definitely not right.  Time for me to juice it over there and find out what exactly is going on here."  Sonic said aloud to the group before booming out of the Carousal Boutique, causing a large rush of wind to blow for a moment in the shop.  Amy looked over surprised.  "Sonic!  Wait for me!  Shadow's my friend too!"  Amy called out concerned before running after the Blue Blur.

 

Rainbow Dash winced from the force of the burst of speed caused by Sonic.  "I don't get it.  What's got Sonic acting all weird as well as Amy?"  Rainbow Dash asked, confused.  Princess Celestia couldn't help but think of how the situation is going out of control.  She wondered if her sister was doing fine with overwatching the kingdom on her own.

 

As Sonic broke through the border of the trees of the Everfree Forest, he quickly bypassed a startled Manticore which had never seen such speed.  He didn't like the idea of Knuckles and Shadow at each other's throats and then there is the word of Maria being involved.  He couldn't think that it would be true that she was still alive.  She had to be a memory, or at least that's Sonic has learned from three years ago on the Space Colony ARK where his battle with Shadow nearly destroyed the world.

As Maria watched over the battle, she could sense a great energy source closing in on them.  Maria/Chrysalis grinned as she saw that it was time to further the operation of Phase One: Distraction.  She focused her eyes on Shadow.  "Shadow...  What happened to grandpa?  The last that I remembered of seeing him being chased by a blue hedgehog that looked like you."  Maria spoke to Shadow, continuing on warping his memories to shape her version of the truth to make him see Sonic as an enemy.  

 

Soon, Metal Sonic would come to and sense their location, giving them something to be distracted by and allow Robotnik more time to get his "Death Egg" operational again as their location is no longer secret thanks to Celestia's watchful eye on the kingdom.  However, if all should go well with phase one, then Phase Two would be a cinch to ensure that Sonic and his friends would be unable to rely on one another.

ROBOTNIK

"Hmmm..? Snively? I thought I told yo-" The doctor's words seemed to have failed him, and a smile crept ever-so slowly across his face, "Ahh, I never thought I would say this but, you've actually done well... Continue to preform this admirably and I may even become proud to call you 'nephew'..." The doctor half praised, half insulted Snively. His grin quickly disapatied into a frown as he turned his attiention back to heading toward the research center. "My previous orders still stand, 'No intrusions on my work, under any circumstances.'" The Doctor declared as he disembarked his EggMobile and entered the center.

 

The doctor proceeded down the simple instillation until he found the room that would be his temporary lab, inside of which were various machines and the retrieval squad he sent to recapture the parts they could scavenge from the Death Egg, as well as the malfunctioning E-100 Unit. "Good work, now go help with the Death Egg Reconstruction effort, I have work to do here." The Doctor ordered as he placed the Chaos Emerald into his Chaos energy powered Engine. He then proceeded to hook the Engine up to the container holding the Malfuctioning E- 100 Unit. The Doctormthen proceeded to warm up a few of the computers and monitors that the squad had retrieved and began running diagnostics on the E- 100 Unit, as well has attempting to create stability within it, before his true intentions for the device could be realized, he had to make sure that the device would be able to handle the extreme amount of power the Emerald held within it.

TWILIGHT & APPLEJACK

Applejack shielded Applebloom from the wind sheer Sonic had created upon exiting the Boutique, Twilight conjured a simple shell of purple magic around her and her brother, as the wind died down, Twilight looked to the princess, then to the direction of the woods. She then spoke up, "Please excuse my rudeness Princess Celestia, but my friends, Fluttershy and Zecora are still out there, Knuckles and Shadow fighting each other is dangerous enough, but with Sonic entering the fray too, well you've seen for yourself what he's capable of." Twilight vanished in a flash of light and reappeared near the entrance to the Boutique, "Spike, you stay here with the Princess, I want you to make sure she is well taken care of, I'm going to go find Fluttershy." Twilight stated to her assistant calmly, but with athourity.

 

"Hang on Sugarcube, I'm goin' with ya!" Applejack voulenteered as she galloped toward her friends' side. "No Applejack, I need you to stay here, Pinkie you too." Twilight said aloud to Pinkie as well to make sure she got her attention. "I need you to watch over Applebloom and her friends to make sure they don't try to get into trouble, knowing them they'll probably try to make a game out of finding the other Chaos Emeralds." Twilight concluded to her friends, Applejack stood still for a moment before nodding her head in agreement to Twilight's statement. "However that doesn't mean that I won't need help, Cadence, do you think I could pull my brother away for a few minutes to get Fluttershy and Zecora safe?" Twilight asked her sister-in-law while giving a warm smile to her brother.

As Knuckles had been kicked back down towards the ground, he threw his fists in front of him while corkscrewing his enite body, he then hit the ground like a drill, digging underneath the battleground, before re-emerging a few feet away from 'Maria' holding the shard of the Master Emerald, "That's right Bozo, I'm the guardian of the Master Emerald!" Knuckles thrust his arm out and reclaimed the Energy that Shadow had been using from the shard of the Emerald. "That means I control it's Energy, not YOU!" Knuckles finished as he punched his fist into the ground, then using the Energy from the Shard, he yanked it back out, causing a tsunami of dirt to rocket forth as the ground around the area was also pulled asunder, flinging trees in many direction, causing destruction on a massive scale around the area.

Tails watched as the events passed by with almost blurlike speed. Maybe it was because he was staring off into space. Then Sonic dashed off. "Sonic! Wait up...!" He tried to follow Sonic, but about halfway out of the boutique, he lost him, leaving only a trail of dust behind him. He sighed, shook his head, and walked back inside, looking at the CMC's. "I'll help watch over them! It'll be just like babysitting Cream... only there are three of them, and they're a bit more chaotic..."

 

Shining Armor looked over at Twilight. "Sure, I'll come, Twilie. If that's OK with you, Cadence?"

 

Scourge was still holding on to the bottom of the bike, his arms rapidly tiring...

"You dare insult me insect?" Metal Sonic said at the mention of "tool". "Allow me to show you my-AHHG..." Metal was forced back and was unable to move thanks to the changeling's stun blast.

-ATTEMPTING FULL SYSTEM REBOOT-

 

Metal's eyes became black as he began to shutdown. About 3 minutes later the reboot was complete and Metal Sonic regained full body movement. "Damn bug. Now not only have I lost an Emerald but Robotnik and those creatures have one." Metal Sonic then sensed a large amount of energy coming from a different location within Everfree Forest. "A Chaos Emerald...No this feels a bit different. It feels stronger somehow." Metal said before boosting to the source of this energy.

 

~Shadow~

 

 

As Maria watched over the battle, she could sense a great energy source closing in on them. Maria/Chrysalis grinned as she saw that it was time to further the operation of Phase One: Distraction. She focused her eyes on Shadow. "Shadow... What happened to grandpa? The last that I remembered of seeing him being chased by a blue hedgehog that looked like you." Maria spoke to Shadow, continuing on warping his memories to shape her version of the truth to make him see Sonic as an enemy

"S-Sonic....?" As Shadow became lost in thought, consumed by fake memories, Knuckles was able to not only use his newly found Master Emerald shard to prevent Shadow from using the Master Emerald's energy but created a huge wave of dirt with snapped Shadow out of his trance. "Dammit." Shadow said as he grabbed Maria/Chrysalis and quickly ran to a safe distance. "Stay here Maria. I'm going to fix everything, just stay here alright?" Shadow said before returning to Knuckles. "I've had enough of you echidna, Chaos powers or not I'm taking you down." In one last attack, Shadow removes his Inhibitor Rings releasing a huge amount of energy that makes the few remaining trees shake. "Think fast." Shadow says before rushing at Knuckles at full speed tackling the echidna and knocking him through tress, rocks, and whatever else was in their way as the sped across Everfree Forest.

 

~Spike~

"Sure thing Twilight." Spike said in response to Twilight's orders to stay at the Boutique. "Be careful!!" Spike yelled out as the purple unicorn left. Spike knew Twilight was able to take care of herself but couldn't help but feel worried for his friend.

 

~Fang~

After hours of traveling Fang saw something in the distance. "Hey Trixie you see that? It looks like a city." Fang said both excited and relived that they had finally found a place to rest. As he drove closer to Baltimare he noticed hordes of bug like creatures and robots. Eggman's robots. "Now what's going on here?" Fang thought aloud as he stopped the Marvelous Queen. "Hey you, ugly insect guy get over here." Fang called out to one of the changelings. "What are ya doin' with Eggman's robots? Is he close by?" Fang asked the strange creature.

Rarity looked down at sweetiebelle who was wrapped around her hoof. she had the thought that her sister felt intimidated with all that was going on. She looked down at sweetiebelle and gave a small smile to keep her calm and comfortable. It's what a good sister dose.

 

Manic peaked out from under his board to see sonic and Amy dashing off. He quickly tightened a bolt in the hover board's hovering mechanism and slammed the hood down. He then jumped on his board and dashed out of the boutique to catch up with Amy. He did want to find out what was going on with shadow and knuckles, but protecting Amy was his number one thing on his list of things to do.

 

Sonia watched as sonic, Amy, and manic dash out of the boutique. She sighed and thought that they where just being her typical brothers. Sonic runs away, Amy chases sonic, and manic follows Amy. She listened to twilight saying that the little fillies might try to make a game in finding the chaos emeralds. "How are we going to find the chaos emeralds anyways?" She asked.

As Celestia was about to tell them of what happened Spike burst through the door like he ran a marathon, Sally and Cadence both raised an eyebrow and glanced at each other before looking back to Spike. When Spike told them about the problem, Sally's eyes widened at the mention of Maria, then before she could stop them Sonic, Amy, and Manic, ran out the door with Sonic causing a large rush of wind, Cadence used her wings to shield herself and Sally. When the wind finally died down cadence unfurled her wings from around them "thank you Cadence" Sally sighed "no problem Sally" the alicorn answered, when Cadence heard Rainbow asked what had happened while Twilight said she would go look for Fluttershy and ask her if Shining could go with her "i don't mind at all Twilight, just as long as you're both careful but just a moment..." Cadence trailed off before looking at her new friend "Sally...do you know anything about what's going on?" Sally looked to Cadence as she crossed her arms, she took a quick glance at Twilight "you might want to hear this Twilight" she told the unicorn before taking a deep breath. "I wasn't there or anything...but Sonic and Amy did tell me about what happened and what they learned, it...started about fifty years ago on Mobius a man named Gerald Robotnik - Eggman's grandfather - was working on something called "Project: Shadow" aboard what was called the Space Colony ARK. The reason for this project and one sole purpose...to cure the disease that his granddaughter Maria contracted...thus Shadow was born...but...when the military heard about Shadow...they had decided to use him as a weapon and went to apprend Shadow the the doctor. When Doctor Gerald Robotnik heard about this he ordered Shadow to take Maria to the escape pods but as they were heading to that room, Soldiers were gaining on them but then...Maria had put Shadow in a pod and just as she released it...she was shot by the soldiers and killed....when Doctor Robotnik heard of this he went into a depression that led him to reprogram all his experiments including shadow to take revenge on the planet...but was then executed..." Sally finally finished "thats why Sonic and Amy reacted the way they did....while Maria was the first and only friend Shadow had she died fifty years ago and certainly shouldn't be in Equestria...something is very VERY wrong here..."

 

Cadence was completely shocked by the story and lowered her head as she heard about this Maria's death and the fact that she was the first and only friend Shadow had "such a horrible fate...but i don't understand if she is dead how is she here..." Cadence muttered more to herself.

 

Pinkie who had looked at Spike strangely and was very quiet after hearing about this Maria girl she knew upon hearing this not even a party could make everyone one happy again when Twilight asked her and AJ to stay and help look after the CMC she brought her front hoof to her head in a salute "you got it Twi!!!" Pinkie said putting the chipperness back into her voice and brought a tray of cupcakes to the three fillies "cupcakes girls?" she said with a wide grin. Suddenly she realized something "hey my shivers are gone!!" she said in glee before lowering her ears  "which means that was the doozy..." suddenly her shivers acted up again "a-another d-d-doozy?" she said shivering. Upon hearing this Cadence gasped "Aunt Celestia! what were you about to tell us before Spike came and told us about Knuckles, Shadow, and Maria?" the young Alicorn asked urgently.

Trixie stared at the creature Nack was talking to. Memories of when she travelled to Canterlot to 'perform' a show at Empress Mi Amore Cadenza and Emperor Shining Armor's wedding surfaced.

 

"Looks like a changeling...huh, why would a changeling be here?" Trixie asked Nack. "A changeling is a creature that takes the form of somepony you love and feeds off of your love for them, if you don't know.

Rouge looked at Shadow and Knuckles while wincing.

 

"Yow, that must of hurt..." Rouge muttered before noticing Shadow abandoning Maria. Rouge nodded at herself: this might be the only chance to talk to Maria while Shadow was gone! She fluttered over to the area where Maria was, scoured the skies, winced at Shadow and Knuckles fighting, spotted Maria, and hovered down in front of Maria.

 

"Er, Maria?" Rouge asked. "I'm Rouge the Bat, Shadow's partner. I am..." Rouge swallowed as much pride as she could muster. "...sorry if you don't like bats. Any-ways...er...I just want a couple of answers. One...pardon is i'm blunt, why is Shadow so...so...so...ugh, I don't know! I know he loves you and all, and trust me, I think that's great. You were Shadow's only friend...er...not counting me, back in the day. He's just acting a bit too possessive. Do you know anything about that? I mean, if you don't, well, er, you can just answer me on how you got here. Did you get here by a freak accident like we did?

AppleBloom, Sweetie Belle, and Babs Seed held onto their respective family watching with wide eyes as Sonic sped out of the Boutique at a blazing speed.  Although, Scootaloo was not as lucky as she flew into a wall with her back.  She slid down slowly and blinked twice.  "That...  Was...  Awesome!  Did you see how fast that was?  He literally blew us away!"  Scootaloo chipped cheerfully as she sprang right back up with a quick cute flutter of her tiny wings.

 

AppleBloom looked back at Scootaloo.  She couldn't believe that Scootaloo is so cheerful after being flung to the wall.  However, Babs Seed's mouth was open with surprise.  "Wow...  You weren't kiddin' about how fast he was..."  Babs said in shock and awe.  Scootaloo zipped right next to Babs.  "That's not even the half of it.  You should've seen him when he zipped all around Canterlot fighting Discord last year."  Scootaloo continued on cheerfully.

 

Princess Celestia was surprised at the turn of events, wondering if it would be unnecessary to tell only half of the group.  "Well, I...  I guess I'll have to wait for a bit...  Sonic and Shadow at odds with each other is not a good idea..."  Celestia told the group.  She looked down at Spike.  "Spike, I'm going to send a letter to you about everything that I know has happened so far.  I need Twilight, Sonic, and the others back here to hear what I have to say.  In the meantime, I must head back to Canterlot...  I must see to my sister's safety..."  Princess Celestia said to Spike before looking towards her niece.  She gave her a nod with a look telling Princess Cadence to be careful.  After that, Princess Celestia exited out of the Carousal Boutique to head back to Canterlot Castle on her own.

 

Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes.  "He's not that fast..."  Rainbow grumbled to herself as she listened to Twilight discuss the plan.  She started to walk away from the group.  Rainbow Dash exited out of the shop as well, chasing after her.  "Whoa, whoa.  There's no way I'm leaving you and Fluttershy hanging.  Friends gotta stick together.  Now, come on.  Let's catch those two."  Rainbow Dash said breezily to Twilight Sparkle, giving her a bit of a sharp nudge in her shoulder.

 

Meanwhile, the CMC looked at each other.  They huddled together, whispering to each other.  AppleBloom looked towards Pinkie Pie with an innocent smile.  "Hey, Pinkie...  Do you want this bag of cocoa beans from me?"  AppleBloom asked her curiously, hiding the fact that they were actually coffee beans intended to make Pinkie even more hyper-active and distracting.

Sonic leapt through the branches of the Everfree Forest, occasionally landing on the ground to continue running through the forest.  However, he sidestepped quickly to the right to narrowly avoid a flying Knuckles that was crashing through the various trees with no idea of when he is stopping.  However there was another sight that gave Sonic pause.  It was the sight of Shadow holding onto his Inhibitor Rings.  Sonic narrowed his eyes at Shadow as he closed the distance on Shadow quickly.

"Shadow, have you gone nuts?  Knuckles is on our side.  What's gotten into you?  You gotta stop getting angry at the mention of Maria."  Sonic said defiantly to Shadow.  There was something in the look of Shadow's eyes that seemed familiar to him.  It was that same look he had three years ago when he first met Shadow on that street in Station Square.

 

Sonic looked at Shadow's Inhibitor Rings and knew that they help keep Shadow's power in check, but he loses more energy much faster.  "Whatever is going on here stops now.  You gotta keep your rings on or you'll lose control."  Sonic pointed out matter-of-factly to the black hedgehog.

Maria was surprised at how fast Shadow's speed was.  "Ahhh, Shadow's speed is remarkable...  He might be as fast as Sonic and maybe even more powerful..."  Chrysalis thought wickedly to herself.  However, her thoughts were interrupted by Rouge who was asking some curious questions.  She had never heard of this bat before from the exploits of Sonic and Dr. Eggman from one year ago.  She might be a very resourceful one...  Which may prove to be a problem.  "Ummm, Shadow is...  Well, he's always been an enigma.  This side of him was like it back on the ARK...  I don't why exactly, ummmm...  Rouge."  Maria spoke to her in a semi-calm tone.  After all, Chrysalis did want to give off the image of a woman who is trying to be calm in front of a bat that tries to act civil.

 

However, her train of thought was broken at the sound of a familiar voice.  She knew that it belonged to Sonic and now came the time for him and Shadow to relive their...  Rivalry.

Amy ran through the woods chasing after Sonic.  However, even with all of her experience chasing after him in the past she still lost him in the woods.  "Oh darn it, Sonic.  You know how Shadow is about what happened with him and his past."  Amy said to herself in a righteous pout.  Now, she found herself deep within the Everfree Forest on her own.  A Timberwolf leapt from the bush, but Amy just swung hard with her Piko Piko Hammer to send it flying in pieces.  "Can't you see a girl is trying to steam in peace?!"  Amy shouted to the shattered magical wolf.  Now that she was done, she had to find out where Sonic was.  However, she saw a big tree in the middle of the bog.  It held strange tribal artifacts and wondered if this house belonged to Zecora.  She then remembered hearing that Fluttershy was out here with the zebra.  "Fluttershy!  Fluttershy, where are you?"  Amy called out to the woods, looking for the shy, timid pony.

Cadence was about to say something to her aunt, when Celestia stated that she would send a letter through Spike due wanting to check up on Luna which Cadence understood, so when she saw the Princess of the Sun give her a nod Cadence gave a small sigh but nodded back. Sally put her hand just behind Cadence's neck and gave her a small smile "I guess we'll just have to wait until that letter arrives and until then we can keep three little fillies out of trouble" Sally said, her smile turning into a grin, Cadence gave a smile back "right" the Princess of Love replied as she and Sally looked out of the corners of their eyes only to see Applebloom approach Pinkie with a bag. The two strained to hear what was being said when they heard that Applebloom was offering cocoa beans to the pink pony "ooooh!!!! thanks" the pink party pony said happily as she was about to take the bag "hold on there" Sally called out as she and Cadence walked over, they eyed the three fillies with suspicion as well as the bag that Applebloom held. Sally gently took the bag from the small filly and took a quick sniff, her eyes narrowing at the smell "these smell a bit too bitter to be cocoa beans don't you think girls? smell more like coffee beans to me" Sally said dryly as she placed the bag on the ground and put her hands on her hips. Cadence narrowed her eyes at this "please tell me you three weren't planning to go after Sonic, he might have to fight Shadow which could very well become unpredictable, i expected better from the fillies i asked to be the Flower Fillies at my wedding" Cadence said to them in a concerned tone. As this was being said Pinkie Pie sneakily took the bag without anyone noticing still thinking that they were cocoa beans and proceeded to pour the bag into her mouth and then began to chew them rather noisily. Hearing this the two princess looked at each other, where Sally had placed the bag only to find it gone, to Pinkie who was just swallowing the beans "mmmm!!! those cocoa beans were so yum-" Pinkie cut herself off suddenly, on of her eyes twitching before the pupils shrank and then sprang up and ran around the room on the walls with a wild look on her face "WOOOO!!!!! I'VE NEVER FELT SO ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!" she yelled out at the top of her lungs while the two princess tried in vainly settle the pink party pony down.

As Shadow stopped he turned around to see the destroyed forest left behind by the attack. Meanwhile Knuckles was on the ground presumably unconscious. This was Shadow's chance to end it and he was about to take that chance. Shadow prepared to karate chop Knuckles in a way that would be lethal*. But before he could do it Sonic called out to him, appearing out of nowhere. "Ah, so you've found me Sonic. I hope you weren't hoping to save Knuckles, as you can see he's a bit out of it." Shadow said gesturing towards the echinda.  

 

 

"Whatever is going on here stops now. You gotta keep your rings on or you'll lose control." Sonic pointed out matter-of-factly to the black hedgehog.

"Don't tell me what to do Sonic. I know the limits of my power....and yours." Shadow said in response. "You know sometimes I think back to that day on the ARK, just before the Biolizard was unleashed, and I think about that fight we had." Shadow took a fighting stance. "I think it's time we finish that fight, this time with no distractions." Shadow then revs up and launchs a spin-dash at Sonic.

Amy looked around the area near the big tree. She had to think that they were nearby in the forest as she knew how much Fluttershy hated being in the Everfree Forest. "Oohhh, this is definitely no place for a delicate lady like myself." Amy said to herself, cradling her face gently. She thought back to the old days whenever she would chase Sonic in such unsafe places. She honestly did miss the fun of chasing him when...

Amy eyes widened with surprise. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" Amy screamed out as she swung her hammer hard to hit whatever just popped right in front of her. She sent the green creature thirty feet into a tree trunk where it slid down slowly. She opened her eyes again to see that she hit Manik. "Manik! What were you thinking?! Don't you know that you never sneak up on a lady in a creepy forest?!" Amy asked him annoyed.

She regained a sort of womanly demeanor, looking towards Fluttershy. "Oh Fluttershy, it's good to see you're okay. We were all worried about you." Amy said to her in relief. She then looked towards the zebra that introduced herself in rhymes. She bowed slightly to Zecora. "It's nice to meet you. I've never met a rhyming zebra before." Amy said to Zecora before focusing back to Fluttershy. "Fluttershy, we were all so worried about you. What exactly were you doing out here?" Amy asked kindly to the shy Pegasus mare.

Babs asked a little shocked. The three CMCs nodded their heads to Babs. "We weren't going after Sonic..." AppleBloom said to Sally and Princess Cadence a little sadly.

However, the fillies ears perked up at the sound of Pinkie Pie chewing the Coffee Beans, wondering if she even knows that they really weren't Cocoa Beans. Then, all of a sudden Pinkie Pie started running all around the Carousal Boutique, driving the two princesses to trying to calm her down. The fillies smiled to themselves and started sneaking their way out of an open window through the bathroom.

Once all four of the Cutie Mark Crusaders were out of the Boutique, they joined in for a group hi-five. "Nice plan, cuz..." Babs Seed praised her cousin. "Let's not celebrate just yet. We need to get Scootaloo's scooter an' ride on outta here." AppleBloom said matter-of-factly to Babs Seed.

All of a sudden, Scootaloo came right by with the scooter and wagon. "Way ahead of you." Scootaloo said with a cheeky grin while the rest of the fillies gathered into the wagon. AppleBloom looked to the other fillies, Babs in particular. "Okay, y'all. We're gonna go on an Emerald hunt. Sonic's got one from our group that has 2 others. So, we need to look for four more Emeralds." AppleBloom said to the fillies. Scootaloo started revving her wings to get the scooter moving fast. "Do you think anybody from the boutique noticed us?" Sweetie asked, wondering if what they did was a good thing. Scootaloo voiced her opinion next as they rode down on the cobblestone street of Ponyville. "There's no way that they noticed us. Even if they did, Sonic or Rainbow Dash are the only ones that can catch us now." Scootaloo said to the fillies, bypassing a cranky donkey on the way going past Sugarcube Corner.

Maria could see from her mind of what was going on with Shadow and Sonic. She thought that her work is no longer needed, but she needed to not be seen by Sonic in this state. However, the more questions that the bat asked, the more she knew that she needed to be dealt with. "Why, what do you mean Rouge?" Chrysalis asked her, a glint of sickly green flashing in front of the bat for a split second. She thought that perhaps she would be useful for the doctor or for her own affairs.

Maria walked innocently to Rouge, holding her hand gingerly. "I just want to do what is best for Shadow... And I'm his only friend." Maria said to her with a wicked grin, her eyes now glowing with the same sickly green she had. Her hand spread a bit of magic around Rouge, enveloping her in a licking green flame cage threatening to burn her if she tried to escape. "I think you have poisoned Shadow's mind for long enough, bat girl..." Chrysalis said to Rouge. "Now... Where's that blue machine to join the old rivals?..." Chrysalis thought to herself as she snapped her fingers to start descending the cage and Rouge into the depths, intending to trap her where nopony can hear her scream for help.

Snively worked around the area after being dismissed by Doctor Eggman.  He grumbled in his clipboard out of Eggman's ear range about how he wasn't treated right or even recognized for how hard he worked for him.  He never even said that he was proud of him.  At that moment, the changeling impersonating Snively was shocked. He was starting to share more of his memories and even started believing that he was really Snively.  He had to keep his loyalty in check.  He truly served Queen Chrysalis and Dr. Eggman will be none the wiser when she reveals her true plan for Equestria that should've happened one year ago in Canterlot.

 

 

 

As he drove closer to Baltimare he noticed hordes of bug like creatures and robots. Eggman's robots. "Now what's going on here?" Fang thought aloud as he stopped the Marvelous Queen. "Hey you, ugly insect guy get over here." Fang called out to one of the changelings. "What are ya doin' with Eggman's robots? Is he close by?" Fang asked the strange creature.

 

Snively turned his attention to two new figures that were having a 'conversation' with one of the changelings.  He narrowed his eyes as the memories of Eggman and Snively recognize the weasel as Nack the Weasel.  However, he did not know who was the mare that was with him.  He walked over to the two newcomers, looking to resolve the situation.  Particularly when the weasel had two more Chaos Emeralds to add to their collection, which only leaves four more to find.

 

"Stand down, Nack.  That will do.  Doctor Eggman is in the laboratory and has ordered to not be disturbed until further notice.  I'm sure that whatever matter you have can be settled with me."  Snively looked towards the blue unicorn mare.  "And who is this...  Lady?..."  Snively asked with a hint of curiosity.  He wondered if she was a spy for Princess Celestia, which would only end in her becoming the Queen's enthrallment.  For now, Snively needed to find answers about her and receive the Chaos Emeralds from Nack the Weasel.  He however was unaware of the green-spined hedgehog stowing away underneath Nack's air bike.

It looked to Sonic that Shadow wasn't going to listen to him. In fact, now Shadow was taking an aggressive stance to Sonic before quickly launching a Spin Dash at him. It hit Sonic with the force of a car as he was sent flying to a tree. He was able to right himself in time for him to land his feet against the tree trunk, jumping onto the ground and landing on one knee with his right hand on the ground.

Sonic looked back up at Shadow with a snarky grin. "Okay... If that's how you want it, then bring it on! I'll knock the sense into you." Sonic said to Shadow before spinning into Shadow, dragging him with his spines across the forest floor. He pushed Shadow through the spine combo with a midair Spine Attack, sending the black hedgehog through a tree. Sonic landed on his feet, tossing the blue Chaos Emerald in his hand like it was a baseball. "I think you might need to check back on my limits, faker." Sonic said cheekily to Shadow, gripping the blue Chaos Emerald in his right hand. He took a breezy stance to Shadow. "If you wanna beat me, you gotta catch me!" Sonic challenged Shadow before blowing right past the black hedgehog at the speed of sound, signalling the restart of that race for the Emerald on the Space Colony ARK three years ago.

Back in Castle Acorn, Elias Acorn, the son of the King Maximilian Acorn, was pacing outside of the Infirmary anxiously. "Father... Please be okay, Father..." Elias said aloud as he continued walking outside of the door to the infirmary. Sir Charles Hedgehog was waiting patiently in the hall with Elias, although the same look of worry was on his face too.

"Your Highness, you must not worry yourself like this. We do not want word of the King's sudden fall to worry the kingdom. There would be panic with the knowledge that there is nobody to rule in his stead at the present moment." Sir Charles said to him. He knew full well that a king must have a queen to rule with and the fact that neither Elias nor Sally is not married doesn't help their current situation at all.

"I know, Chuck. I know, but... It's my Father... The way he just..." Elias said to Sir Charles, tears trying to escape his eyes. Fortunately, one of the doctors that was directed to attend to King Maximilian stepped out of the door, holding his clipboard. Elias looked towards the doctor. "Doctor, how is he? Is he going to..." He started before the medical doctor cut him off.

The medical doctor cleared his throat a bit and frowned sadly. He tried to find the words to tell him that would be able to alleviate the situation, but he could not find any. "I'm afraid that... Our Majesty has slipped into a coma with no telling of when he would be back to us... The strains on him were just... Too much for him... He already was rapidly aging thanks to his imprisonment in the Zone of Silence thanks to Dr. Robotnik; the same zone where Ixis Naugus came from. The conflicts with Robotnik and his reincarnated self Dr. Eggman along with the attempts on his life just pushed it to his limits... We might be able to use a device to bring him back to us, but... We don't have the immense amount of energy to power the device." The medical doctor said somberly to Elias who was in shock at what he was hearing.

Sir Charles was also listening to what the doctor was saying. "Immense energy to power it... We might be able to do it with a Chaos Emerald. The problem is... We don't know where they have gone with Sonic and the others." Sir Charles said to them with an Epiphany only to have it chased away with their current situation of the battle of the Death Egg Mk. II. Elias sighed to himself, looking out to the hallway at nothing in particular. "Sonic... Sally... Where are you when we need you?" Elias asked sadly to himself, not knowing about what kind of trouble Sonic and his friends were into whereever they are.

Tails just then noticed the fillies were gone. He sighed. Escapes: 1. Best Time Without Incident: 0:01.34 He sighed and then took off after them. "girls! Wait! It's too dangerous! Eggman's got the remaining emeralds, and you fillies will get yourselves killed!" Of course, by then, they couldn't hear him clearly enough to care. He scowled and headed back inside, and started working on his new device as fast as possible... he needed to catch them.

"Stand down, Nack. That will do. Doctor Eggman is in the laboratory and has ordered to not be disturbed until further notice. I'm sure that whatever matter you have can be settled with me." Snively looked towards the blue unicorn mare. "And who is this... Lady?..." Snively asked with a hint of curiosity. He wondered if she was a spy for Princess Celestia, which would only end in her becoming the Queen's enthrallment. For now, Snively needed to find answers about her and receive the Chaos Emeralds from Nack the Weasel. He however was unaware of the green-spined hedgehog stowing away underneath Nack's air bike.

~Fang~

Fang looked over to see Snively, Eggman's cowardly nephew and assistant. "Your here too Snively? At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if all of Mobius was sent here." Nack said to himself before realizing he was off subject. "Oh right uh...When you get the chance give Eggman these" Nack threw both Chaos Emeralds at Snively before taking out something different, much different. It was the Crystal Heart which Fang had stolen just a few hours ago. "You think this is worth anything? It looked important and seeing as everyone and their brother was guardin' it I just took it." Fang said unaware of the power he held in his hands. "Oh right, as for my...assistant her name's Trixie she helped me get an emerald in that Crystal Empire place."

 

 

 

Sonic looked back up at Shadow with a snarky grin. "Okay... If that's how you want it, then bring it on! I'll knock the sense into you." Sonic said to Shadow before spinning into Shadow, dragging him with his spines across the forest floor. He pushed Shadow through the spine combo with a midair Spine Attack, sending the black hedgehog through a tree. Sonic landed on his feet, tossing the blue Chaos Emerald in his hand like it was a baseball. "I think you might need to check back on my limits, faker." Sonic said cheekily to Shadow, gripping the blue Chaos Emerald in his right hand. He took a breezy stance to Shadow. "If you wanna beat me, you gotta catch me!" Sonic challenged Shadow before blowing right past the black hedgehog at the speed of sound, signalling the restart of that race for the Emerald on the Space Colony ARK three years ago.

~Shadow~

~He's gotten stronger~ Shadow thought to himself as he recovered from Sonic's attack. Before he could respond to Sonic's quips the blue hedgehog had already blasted past Shadow. "Oh so we're doing this again are we?" Shadow said annoyed yet excited at the same time. He too blasted off tailing right behind Sonic, determined to steal the Chaos Emerald away from him.

 

~Metal Sonic~

At the time Sonic and Shadow began their race Metal Sonic was deep in Everfree Forest following the power signal he detected. "Strange it looks like the signal is getting closer, and at an alarming rate. Could it be that-" Metal Sonic's thought was cut short as two blurs, one black and one blue, raced past him. "Just as I thought." Metal said as he flew up high and began to go after the blurs which were of course Sonic and Shadow. Though Metal was not going at full speed, he wanted to see how this would play out, as he waited for his chance to strike.

Manic was hit and was sent flying into a tree, he was dazed when he landed on the ground. Three 16bit sonic sprites ran around his head as he felt his head pounding from the hit. As he tried to get back up he sees Amy right in front of him. "Uhg... Remind me never to do that again" he said still feeling dizzy.

Sonia jumped up onto her feet as pinky pie was bouncing off the walls. She closed her eyes for a second then opened them. At the corner of her eye, she saw the tails of the four fillies sneak into the other room. Sonia followed them into the other room only to see them escaping on a scooter. She saw tails trying to call out to them, they obviously wouldn't listen so Sonia had an idea of her own. She quickly made her way out of the boutique and hoped on her bike and rode off after the four fillies. As she was riding, she looked around at the scenery, it was sure different from mobius. She knew what she was getting into when she singed up to help her brothers like old times, but she wasn't expecting to have traveled to another... Place...

Sonia could see the fillies in the distance, she rode towards them and started picking up speed. She was riding fast and caught up to the fillies, she passed them and drifted her bike to block their path. She hoped they would stop.

Pinkie Pie was still jumping and running around the room in a frenzy and had a large crazed grin on her face "WOOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!!" she yelled out while Sally and Cadence were still trying to grab the pink pony so that they could calm her down "ugh...doesn't...she ever...slow down?" Sally asked as she panted "not to...my knowledge" Cadence answered as she too panted. Then without any warning Pinkie ran straight out the door, when the two princesses saw this they both had different reactions.

Sally facepalmed herself in frustration "wonderful...now we have Sonic and Shadow most likely duking it out right now, four runaway fillies and now a runaway party pony, can anything else go wrong?" she growled out.

While Cadence felt frustrated she quickly did her breathing exercise to calm herself "easy Sally...i saw Sonia go after Applebloom, Babs, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo, so we should go see if we can catch Pinkie...though i'm not sure how..." Cadence stated calmly.

Seeing this Sally took a single deep breath and let it out "you're right...Sonia should be able to get those four back, Pinkie will pose a problem though...Tails, we'll be right back! we have to go after Pinkie" Sally called out to her friend before she and Cadence ran out after Pinkie who was causing damage due to her hyperness.

Trixie growled at Nack and levitated her chaos emerald back to herself. "Trixie found it, weasel guy. Trixie gets to keep it."

Fluttershy happily squeed at Amy. "Well, some timberwolves attacked me, so I ran to Zecora's. She's always willing to help a friend in need."

 

Rouge the Bat

Rouge looked around at her cage. "Y-You aren't Maria...." Rouge said, before attempting to break out to no avail. All she could do is wait with these precious gems.

When Trixie started to levitate the Chaos Emerald back to her Fang snatched it out of the air before she could grab it and draws his gun, pointing at Trixie. "Well ya see, Trixie, I've got a lot of money riding on these here emeralds. So I'd appreciate it if you kept your hooves off of em'" Fang said knowing Trixie had served her purpose. "Here, Snivley. Like I said give these to Eggman and make sure you remind him to give me my rings." Fang said giving the fake Snivley both the Chaos Emerald and Crystal Heart.
