Played a bit of WoW back in the days and it was all right but I prefer MMORPGS with player housing and more complex character development so RIFT seems to be the ideal mmorpg for me.

I would probably try out Everquest 3 as soon as it launches esp since it'll most likely be free to play.

I'm not into pvp so not really gonna try out GW2

I love MMOs they are my favorite. I just need to get a better comp for the graphix and what not (chrismas present maybe) :D At the moment i play Star Trek Online mainly. But Cryptic is awful at running it. I played Star Wars Galaxies for the longest. Used to play Pirates of the Burning Sea, very good game just got bored with it. WOW i cant get into its just not my thing i have tried it. Guild Wars looks very good but i havent played it yet. I am looking for another the play maybe ill give them a shot. I want to try SWTOR but i hate it because it killed my favorite MMO ever which was Star Wars Galaxies. I cant play MMO's that dont have room for Roleplaying. I like PVP and PVE and im good at it but on occasion i would like to just RP and recently alot of Dev's seem to be leaving space for that out. I also enjoy DC Universe online but i only play the PS3 version which im pretty sure isnt as good as the PC version. If you could explain what GW2 is about i might be willing to look more into it. :)

I've played both and I think Guild wars 2 is a lot more enjoyable. It has great graphics and leveling is actually fun to me when I play it. Also, no monthly payments.

I used to play World of Warcraft... ALOT. I played it from 2005-2012. I gave up in September.

I vote WoW. I can't imagine any other game on the market having the same amount of content that WoW has had.

Rift does but people tend to jump to the popular bandwagon rather than playing a game for it's quality and content so you never see RIFT being talked about.Everquest 2 probably have as much content too but the gameplay is too traditional and most people just can't stomach it but it's free to play now.

I'm still a fan of Dark Age of Camelot. Its the only game that I've played that has great open world RvR. (GW has it as WvWvW) Actually GW2 modeled a lot of the WvW off the DAoC RvR. In my opinion though, GW2 failed at grasphing what made RvR fun. Its hard to describe it though, you'd have to experience it to find out. Plus endgame RvR isn't mindless button mashing like WoW + Post-WoW games are. You have positionals, and reaction based attacks. Well, more complex imo.

Pretty much got it perfectly hit on the head imo. WoW did streamline the MMO market allowing things to be done faster and more efficiently.

As with EQ and EQ2, I think they have more or close to the same content that WoW has. Never really played those long enough.

I did like Rift when it came out, just got bored after awhile when started soloing epic mobs.

I just get tired and annoyed when a new MMO comes out and people say its a "WoW clone" too.

Aye, too bad it'll never happen again as the masses wants games that require no skill and teamwork at all.I think that there would be mass unsubscribe and forum QQ for any modern game that allows 8 good players to defeat an entire zerg. The closest thing thing to it now would probably be a korean mmo by the name of Aika that has 5 factions and claims to allow 1000 vs 1000 pvp.

95% of mmorpgs these days are nothing more than WoW clones and I'm not a big fan of more action oriented korean mmorpgs like c9 or blade&soul.

I gotta add, I like how you think khaine21x3!

You're probably one of the few I've met on a forum, that isn't game specific, that has played older MMOs

Not exactly for the same reason as you stated. If you followed the GW2 forums after release(I did) people were complaining about the 24/7 warfare. Stating it was unfair to go to sleep and then have people log on and retake the keeps/towers while they couldn't defend.

I play them both and like them both, but for different reasons. I like Guild Wars 2 because there's no subscription fees so I can go pick it up and play whenever I want and don't feel pressured to play due to a sub. Also I find the combat more actiony and individual fights more interesting and memorable because of it. I like WoW because of the massive amount of content it has accumulated and there's a ton of stuff to collect. The combat's still fun, but in a different way I think. I've played various other MMOs as well and I think Lord of the Rings Online will always be my favorite (partially because it was my first modern MMO), even though I don't play it much now.

I haven't played GW2 yet, but I played a lot of GW1, and I like it a lot more than WoW. Not only does it lack monthly fees, it has fairly complex gameplay for an MMO. Not just "see enemy, press 1, press 2, press 3, if you need to heal, press 6, if not, press 4. Repeat until you win". I like how all the values are kept relatively low, so you really have to manage your spells and stuff so you don't get stuck in a bad situation with low health and no spells up. Depending on your class combination, there are tons of builds and strategies one can use, and while there are some "best" builds, none of them really suck if you know what you're doing.

I used to play an indie MMO called Sho Online. It was very similar to WoW, except IMO it had a better level-up and skill system (more cutomization), and it was a little less polished (not surprising for an indie game). But what I really loved about it were the wars. When you create the account, you choose Zhou or Yin, two warring factions. Every 8 hours, there's a massive PVP war where everyone who's online (and doesn't opt out) get's teleported to a battlefield and dukes it out. There are a bunch of territories that are all separated, and depending on which territory it's in, one faction has attacking objectives while the other has to defend. Whoever wins in each area pushes the other faction back and it's starts over (IIRC, wars last 2 hours, but will go on longer so a battle doesn't get cut-off). The territory a faction controls as a result of wars decides where you an go in PVE, so it's always advantageous to do well in wars. Everybody who participates get's bonus XP and money at the end of each war (there's an initial amount based on how well the faction did, and then extra for any kills or assists you get), so it's good to participate even if you;re low level and can't actually help much (there's also always the chance that you can get into a War Party with some high level people, so you get to share the bonuses of all their kills :)).

It was very well put together and I loved playing it, but after a fairly major update, the game stopped working on everything except XP, and last time I checked, the devs never did anything about it. I'm not sure it's even still being worked on, or even supported anymore :/

I ended up quitting WoW when I started reading about GW2. It's now one of my favorite games of all time.

I dunno if you're looking for specific reasons why, but I could seriously write an essay about why GW2 is so great, and I don't have that kind of time today.  ;)

I have played WoW for a few years, but I quit playing it few months ago. I recently picked up GW2 and I'm loving that game at the moment.

The reason why I love GW2 so much is the PvP. I really disliked PvP in WoW but it's now pretty much the only thing I do in GW2. There's two types of PvP in GW2. There is the structured PvP where groups of people fight against eachother in an even enviroment.

Then there's the other type of PvP called World vs World where three servers fight on three borderland maps for each server and the Eternal Battlegrounds, a map shared between each server in the middle.

I haven't tried the structured PvP yet, but WvW is really fun. Especially when you get a lot of people together. So yeah. There's one reason to buy GW2.

You should also keep your eyes on The Elder Scrolls Online. It looks like a cool game but it has not been released yet.

After playing both, I will say GW2.

Right off the bat, there's no subscription fee and the combat feels a lot more involved than it did in WoW. I used to play a warlock in world of warcraft and most of the time, I hid behind the heavy guys standing perfectly still charging my shadowbolts for 10-20 minutes. In guild wars 2, I can't stand still otherwise I will die extremely quickly and there is a lot of strategy involved in your positioning.

The one thing I miss are my old mounts, but not just because I want to move quicker but because they were awesome looking and I loved that extra customization. I was a bit of a mount collector and most of my gold went to that instead of my armor.

I havent had the opportunity to go back on since the last event due to the final study crunch, but i've got all of my projects finished and I'll be back during the holiday season to get my alt to level 80.
