LUNA, MISTRESS OF NIGHTMARES!!!

This episode gave another excellent dimension to Princess Luna's domain/powers.

I was extremely thrilled. Even though it was Scootaloo's episode, this was a fine day for Luna fans as well.

How do you think this power will come up again?

Luna, true guardian of the night^^ in this way, she can be making more appearances. id imagine she'd make troll appearances/random cameos as well XD aside from the helping and stuff. hmm also, i wonder if Celestia could enter daydreams 0.o

What got me thinking is that if she can enter ANYPONYS dreams... wouldn't that be a bit weird? She can see anyones dreams and see what is goin' on in their heads... Oh dear Lord i wonder if shes seen Pinkies dreams...  i don't think i want to know what shes dreams about...

As Starswirl the Trixied said in the episode thread, this is rather creepy.  Does it mean alicorn princesses can enter one's mind at will?  Or, hopefully, she only entered Scoot's dream because she wanted help and thus entering the dream was consensual?  Heck, at first I didn't think it was really Luna but a product of an overactive imagination.

I thought it was awesome. I was totally excited. I think this only applies to Luna since she is the appointed Guardian of the Night. Guardians don't usually go where there is nothing to guard so I think her power is more 'go where you are needed'. I don't think shes out trolling peoples dreams.

I had no idea Luna was going to be in this episode. Its like being tosses a piece of candy. GREAT JOB writers!!!

Oh and the episode was awesome too.

Your Inception reference just made this thread 20% cooler. Christopher Nolan is definitely lurking somewhere nearby DHX Media, whispering tales of facing one's fears and being attacked by Tom Hardy.

Like most everything else revealed in this season (e.g., dark magic, Alicorn Amulet), Luna's ability to enter dreams has to be a prelude to something greater. We're being teased so badly now that anything less than a climactic event involving all of these various powers and artifacts would feel like a tremendous disappointment.

I wonder if Luna can enter multiple dreams at once? How expansive is this power? Luna at most has had passing contact and/or knowledge of Scootaloo, so presumably Luna does not need to be intimately familiar with the dreamer. It almost seems to imply she has some form of omniscience when scouring the world of dreams.

At first I didn't think it was Luna. Just some random background filler made by the show animators for the hell of it that could be credited as Scootaloo's imagination playing around. But then it turned out not so. I like the fact that Luna can get involve in other's dreams. Why? Well, the ability is a double edged sword that can be used for good and evil. And Luna has threaded both paths. Probly the reason she was called Nightmare Moon has a connection to this ability, and her possibly misusing it at one point. And considering she's now a character that wants to be accepted, redeemed basically, using this ability like she did in today's episode can be considered a tool to prove herself.

Like Starswirl said this does raise massive questions about how much power the princesses have if one on them is able to monitor you like this. I trust them not to abuse the power, but the fact that they have it is somewhat unsettling. I wonder how often Luna does things like this anyway.

Whoa, what if when she was Nightmare Moon and banished she used this power to torment Celestia with nightmares every night? That's probably what I would do if I were evil. Huh, if that happened then Celestia might need a hug or two.

We'll probably get some interesting fanfics out of this concept.

Hmm. An interesting theory, though I would say it is negated by the fact Night Mare Moon was banished and sealed away inside the moon. Presumably her powers were unable to break the seal (hence why she needed the stars to aid in her escape; whatever that means exactly I cannot be certain, but it suggests she required assistance of some sort). But Night Mare Moon having tormented other ponies prior to banishment is not beyond the realm of reason.

I agree quite readily that this ability will be more fuel for the fanfic fire.

Yeah, I thought that too at first, but then I considered that she might be able to use her powers to mentally leave the moon, even if she is physically confined there, sort of like astral projection in comic books. Who knows? I suppose we can take whatever stance on it we like. I don't really have an opinion, I just thought it was an interesting idea.

I really loved the concept that Luna watches over ponies dreams and can enter into them.  Adds a new and fascinating dimension to her powers and responsibilities, and further differentiates her duties as Princess of the Night from Celestia's own as princess and steward of the day.  Also, who other than me just wanted to bust out and start singing this when Luna called herself the Princess of the Night?

I'm so happy that's canon now.  B)

Wasn't already canon in "Luna Eclipsed"? Luna did refer to herself then as "the true princess of the night." Recent mention of that title confirmed and preserved continuity---which is a good thing! ;)

Luna can finally spend time with everybody! Now she can feel all relevant and stuff.

I am the Princess of the Night

But within your dreams I am the light

If you feel threatened and unsure

I will heighten their allure

I am the Protector of the Night

I keep you all within my sight

The thing that causes you to flee

Will think again when faced with me!

I think it's really cool how now Luna, like the other princesses in the story, is teaching something.

Because in every episode that mentions a princess I feel like a valuable lesson is learnt and now Luna's giving out words of advice to.

I just think that's really cool!

But seriously, I loved this little bit, adds a whole new layer to Luna's power and presumably her duties as well (fighting evil forces trying to invade ponies' dreams).

I haven't watched the episode yet but it's so hard to avoid spoilers! I'm waiting for it to come out on iTunes so I can get the true full 1080p experiance. I can't wait to see what Luna gets up to in this episode.

Did she refer to herself as princess of the night in "Luna Eclipsed"?  Huh, guess I forgot.  I'll have to go back and check that out; thanks for the heads up!!!  :D

Really didn't think she'd be given this ability but after the episode I'm kind of glad that they did. It gives her something that is her own so that she's not just a darker Celestia.

Does she need an opening into someones mind, say if they are in need of help like scoots was or can she go in at will? Who can say? I'd like to think that she has a connection with eveybody who is asleep and can tell when people need the help.

Makes her NightMare Moon state that much more intimidating too.

I also keep thinking about Tel'aran'rhiod (shamelessly googled the spelling :P) from The Wheel of Time books.

Interesting that this power of Luna's was demonstrated in the Scootaloo episode. I know in fan lore Scootaloo is often thought to be an orphan, and Luna strikes me as the type that would have a soft spot for orphans, so it just seems really extra awesome that Luna would enter into one of Scootaloo's dreams.

Hmmm......this makes me think of two possibilities:

1. Luna does something akin to Raz in Psychonauts. Raz was able to access the called Collective Subconscious, which showed the doors to other's people minds. If anything, Luna might be on guard each night while everypony sleeps and the moment she sense problem, she can go and enter the door to the corresponding dream or nightmare, and help the poor pony out if they are in problems.

2. Luna can sense when is a pony fighting a horrible nightmare, so with her powers that allowed her to be a dreamwalker (and again I say, that Jonke needs to change back to Dreamwalker as it's now totally legit ^_^ ), and travels until she can find it.

Since she IS the Princess of the Night, she'd probably be in care of helping the ponies be able to sleep as soundly as possible. :)
