Hello fellow members of the MLP forums. Welcome to the presentation of my latest creation by yours truly! I hope you find it to be the most horrible magnificent drawing you have laid your eyes on!

 

This old thing took me approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes(Give or take a few minutes)

 

Without further ado allow me to present my drawing of RARITY!

 

I also used reference(Google images never fails.)

 

Of course I used my usual arrangement of utility's(A mouse and a keyboard along with GIMP)

The most challenging part of this piece of crap  artwork was the mane as I feared originally, it proved to easily become the most difficult ordeal of this whole piece. Especially taking into account this is my first attempt.

 

And I guess that's all of the things I have to inform of you of about this piece.

 

I hope you have enjoyed the presentation of this piece!(if your enjoy the feeling of your own eyes burning out of your skull that is..)

 

As always I am open for critique! As it only helps me to improve upon my skills.

This is GIMP? I would have guessed MS Paint. xD  LOL, I'm horrible. But seriously, drawing anything as sharply defined as a Flash cartoon image (and as magnificent as Rarity) with it is quite a challenge. Her body shape is a little too skinny, but the mane was definitely your undoing. It's only a little higher than it is on the show, but that little bit is the difference between awesomeness and an exaggerated pompadour. Also her eyes are a bit off.

 

It's all about practice, though. I'm sure I couldn't do any better. ^^

Yeah, its not really anything thats amazing at all.. Its probably on the low end of a lot of my most recent stuff, I just didn't really feel like undoing everything to try and fix the stuff once I noticed it(Its hard to sometimes notice from just a outline if it looks right or not.)

So yeah I don't think this was any good, Rarity was quite difficult to draw, her mane is so fregin complicated. And I proably should've just used a normal pose to make things easier, I was already doing a mane that was going to be hard, and then I decided to do a pose that I've never done before.

 

Overall that greatly reduces quality overall.

 

I'm honestly not very impressed with this drawing myself at all, this one is one I'll have to practice some if I ever want to draw her again.

Although I'm just drawing each of the mane 6 1 time, just because I want to see how my first try turns out. And I'm thinking of doing something with them to.

I'd just note that it's better to learn to draw things from the front, then from the profile and leave 3/4 profile as the last. I'm not sure how much drawing you've done and what exactly you use to do it tho, so anything I say might be very void.

Actually I've never really drawn any pony's from the front, I normally try and draw them in the normal pose from the side which is pretty simple normally, but I agree I really shouldn't have tried to do this pose, it was a bit more then I could handle honestly.

I need more experience to be honest before I really start drawing anything to complicated.

It's cute! Obviously its pretty wonky, but its a pleasant piece to look at @Zygen.

 

I must say though, that your piece looks like Rarity after going on the Amy Winehouse diet.

hehe, yeah its very wonky in my opinion, it was actually kinda frustrating to draw the mane sometimes and to even think of how to draw it was kinda difficult.

Plus I had a hard time visualizing how it would look completed while outlining it so after I realized how it looked it was already to late

 

Theres quite a few flaws I could point out . But I guess you live you learn, maybe next time I decide to draw her will look better.

 

To be fair I didn't really listen to music while doing this, maybe thats why...

Naw I'm not gonna go blaming stuff .

 

And haha, that video .(or picture) Yeah I guess it does kinda look that way. Oh well if you find my very wonky art pleasant to look at then I guess I'm happy , means more practice for me, and more motivation because people enjoy it!

Also drawing only faces or even only eyes isn't bad practice - and those are arguably the most important and difficult parts on the pony. When practicing it, don't focus on the details or whole body, just draw the part you are trying to learn.

No matter the methods you use, the most important part is to keep at it. If you work on something for 4 hours, then take a good look and go "Oh my, that looks like crap.", don't get discouraged, just start another picture when you have the time and mood, because it will get better everytime. 

It has a special place for me, because I used to have very ugly handwritting and my drawings were... let's say not very pleasant to the eye, but as I kept drawing, it got better and thanks to the time spent drawing, my writing and pretty much everything that needs precision got exponentially better over the years up to the point where I dare say my drawings are pretty solid and writting good looking.

I can see improvement with each piece you draw, Zygen! You're getting leg lengths down quite well. Keep drawing, bro!

 

Overall, though, your pieces still do seem too boxy, which is a problem I had when I started drawing ponies, too. So here's a bit of advice that I found helped me improve with pony drawing quickly: don't be afraid to get curvy. If you want to draw a good pony you can't be afraid to get ambitious with high degrees of curvature, such as the curvature of the legs and the roundness of the torso/belly area, and curves in the mane. Also work on your heads, her face is way pushed in.

Well, drawing / painting is one of the more.... noble hobbies and often also useful one to have. You know, free gifts everyone will adore, your own fanclub and eternal fame. Well. Maybe not the last one.

But for the love of Celestia, don't draw with mouse. Use pencil or tablet unless you want to make pixelart.

If anybodys really interested I suppose I could try once to draw on paper, but honestly Its just not that convient and poses some problems since I'm a closet brony and the door to my room doesn't even lock(Ikr )

 

Plus its alot harder to post hand drawn stuff here then stuff drawn on the computer.

 

I understand its not really very... Optimal, but I kinda have to work with what I've got for now.

Dang, that is actually not that bad.  The hair is a little big, but the body is almost right, just a little long.  Great job.  Also the head is a little small, but what improvement!

But yeah, getting hand-drawn things in can be a pain if you don't have a scanner handy -  using camera is, erm, sub-optimal. Tho I think a bit of bad quality wouldn't be so terrible for once, I'm actually interested in how you real drawing looks like. 

Personally, I'm oldschool, I always prefer paper to anything else. I even got a tablet recently, but it just feels like drawing blindfolded but I guess it's simpler to get used to it if you haven't been drawing with pencil for many years.

 

Oh, and at the risk of sounding like an idiot - I just feel sad for you if you actually can't draw what and how you like it, because someone (parents /sibling I presume) could find out you're a brony. And I really meant that one.

Honestly the most annoying this with drawing with a mouse is keeping your hand from sliding around while trying to draw straight. Or even making good curves.

Honestly I may even be better at drawing with a mouse then I am IRL since I've been doing it more then I really do with mouse. Probably not but still its possible I guess, maybe I'll take a picture after I decide to draw with a pencil and paper. Who knows.

 

As for the closet brony thing, I'm just not really at the point where I feel like exsposing that type of thing, plus I don't know if I trust my brother not to tell my parents, and my parents I imagine would react odd.

Maybe I'll come out of the closet one day, but not today ;p.

 

I don't really have the funds for a tablet though .

Wow, this is actually a lot better than your previous drawings I've seen! Lots of improvement within a short amount of time. What I'd suggest is making the bottom of the hooves thicker and using a pen for getting better proportions. Even if you're drawing digitally, you can still put a pencil or something in front of the monitor. But you're getting better at proportions too, so keep it up!

The legs are definitely large enough, but notice how they become wider at the bottom, try to do that in your next one.

Her right eye (our left) is too small compared to the other one, and her head looks squished.

 

As for the mane, it's actually not  that bad if you disregard the top part (waaaay too big), the tail and the rest of her mane a pretty good!

Don't ask why, I really don't know.

 

But, then, what you said about the mane- when styles develope, it's going to look a little goofy. What if, when he has a recognizable, personalized style, he top part of EVERY mane is a little large? It's all just part of developing style.

I'll try thickening the hoofs a bit, as of now they're quite thin honestly. guess all try it and see how it looks, thank you!

Thanks the Bronyheart glad to hear the compliments! I may not become a great artist or anything, but Atleast I'm already better then what I started, which is good enough for me.(Well its good enough for part of me, then you throw in perfectionist Zygen who screams at me for that remark .)

Hehe, Flutters I'm going to miss your wonderful reaction videos when/If I become a good artist one day. Rarity is quite easy to find reactions for considering shes pretty dramatic, thus she has alot of dramatic moments .

 

Anyways I agree this drawing in overall quality is much lower then some of the most recent stuff, the difficulty that I tried for a new pose, and for in my opinion one of the hardest to draw pony's makes for a pretty substantial reduction in quality.

 

I do need to work a bit on the size differences in the legs. I think the head is just to small and thats why theres a few issues with things like eye size.

 

And I agree once I finally looked at the finish product of that top mane I was like.. Wow that looks pretty ugly.. I waited alot longer to curve that then I should've I guessed, maybe I was just caught up in how complex her mane was.

 

I kinda think her mane still has a few issues with things like the colors in some of the dark parts seeing as it has alot of changes in color in there. I suppose the overall shape is ok though. I've finally got use to making the tail go far enough down and not making it look so short.

 

And as for my redundancy.. Well nobody said I was known for being short and sweet am I ? I guess I just didn't look at my sentences oh well .
