Dumbo was just plain depressing, and then there's that random elephants song that adds nothing to the story and gives nightmares >.<

Disney...i'll start off by saying that The Lion King is a great movie, but it is by far the most overrated Disney movie ever made.

However, as far as Disney goes, I like the toons (Ducktales, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck, etc) more than the movies...

The Lion King is NOT overrated. It has some of the best character's and story, in my opinion at least.

Yeah, and 99.9% of every other Disney fan's opinion.

And if you read the rest of my post, you would see that I like Disney toons more than the movies. Considering almost every single time Disney is brought up, most people are gonna mention The Lion King first...yeah, i'd say it's pretty overrated. It gets A LOT more love than any other Disney movie.

Well how was I suppose to know you were editing :P

I disagree, from what I've seen opinions differ greatly on the Disney movies and I have never really seen the Lion King get "a lot more love" than other disney movies. And even if it does receive "more love" that does not necessarilly make it "overrated". In a conversation about Disney it's almost impossible to not bring up one of Disney's greatest creations

The Disney toons will always remain in the shadows of the movies simply because movies tend to be more memorable.

From what i've seen, people seem to not pay much attention to other Disney movies, but they're always quick to praise The Lion King whenever anything Disney is brought up. And if it doesn't make The Lion King overrated, then it'd make every other Disney movie underrated.

And I strongly disagree with that last sentence. I find good shows to be much more memorable than movies...but that might have more to do with the fact that i'm not really a big fan of movies.

Well because the Lion King is many people's favorites doesn't really mean " if it doesn't make The Lion King overrated, then it'd make every other Disney movie underrated". It being the highest rated does not mean that other Disney movies are underrated, it just means that people regard it as a better movie.

Yes it does, otherwise they would get more recognition than they do. This thread is one of the only times i've seen anything Disney-related that wasn't The Lion King get any acknowledgement...and if there was a poll, The Lion King would still probably come out on top even here.

...And it doesn't help that almost everytime i've seen someone say they think The Lion King is overrated (which isn't often, because even people who think that still love the movie) the general reaction seems to be something like this:

"WHAT?!?!?!?! HOW CAN YOU THINK THAT?! IT'S THE BEST DISNEY MOVIE EVER!!!!"

...I put that in caps for emphasis. :P

Explain your reasoning.

Explain how all my previous posts don't count as "reasoning".

...And once again, the fact that people will ALWAYS ask you to explain why you think The Lion King is overrated is a perfect example of WHY I think it's overrated.

By definition, no that doesn't make it "overrated". As I said before it receiving higher ratings does not mean in anyway that it hasn't earned its ratings. If people regard it as better than [some other disney movie] then it would be logical for the movie to receive a higher rating. :P The Lion King is not my personal favorite but it is definitely just below the others.

I really can't see why that would make you think of it as overrated ;) Edited by Lady Rarity Pony

Meh, it still doesn't mean the other Disney movies aren't underrated. And since i'm getting bored, i'll say that The Lion King is still overrated...to me at least.

And about my other post, loud fans/fans who always need reasoning to except somepony else's opinion can make anypony think something is overrated. :P

The Hunchback of Notredame is my favorite. The way I feel emotions along with the characters is amazing. And then Frollo is one of the best Disney villains ever >:D

I'm surprised so many on this thread like Hunchback. I always thought that was one of the more under appreciated Disney films.

Not to mention most people consider it to be the greatest animated film of all time, even beating out Beauty & the Beast (which was nominated for an Academy Award) in fan preference.

I keep re-watching the HB of Notredame. Even though it's obviously geared towards kids, the plot of the story is pretty mature if you think about it.

Dude, are you serious? The plot is NO WHERE NEAR FOR KIDS. The priest guy is stuck between lust and his devotion to god, so he tries to murder her and send her to hell.

Where in that plot is kid related?

I did say it was mature ;)

He isn't a priest, he's a minister (there is a difference) ;)

The HB of Notredame really pushed the limits of how mature a kids movie can be, but in the end it worked out and it was still appropriate for children. Most of the deeper details are presented in a way that if you are young you won't even pick up.

I can't really explain Disney's mindset when it comes to this but they had a good sense of how to do it without parents having to walk out mid-movie
