Christian bronies: meet, greet, and mingle!

Sometimes it just happens. God's talked to me in subtle ways. Never words or anything so overt, but I believe He has.

Yeah....sorry it's just something I refuse to believe. No offense if you actually have that ability, but isn't it a little unfair on God's part to only talk to certain "gifted people" but not people who are truly dedicated and loving followers? There are plenty of people out there who more than deserve that gift :(

I believe God has spoken to all of us in some way or other, mostly by the Holy Spirit. If He didn't, I doubt anyone would saved. Sure, I'd like to hear His actual, audible voice but I know that it's just not my gift. God has given all of us gifts and all of them are of the same importance. He doesn't play favourites, just some people have that gift and others don't. If you don't, then God obviously has a different gift that's just as good :)

There's nothing "unfair" about how God presents Himself to others. Who are we to deem worthy of the presence of God? In fact, none of us are truly worthy of His presence, and should be begging for His mercy(one of the reasons I love the Byzantine culture).

On a lighter note, God works in mysterious ways, and not all the time does He use flashing neon lights to communicate with us His divine will. We cannot fathom how He works, but surely, if He deems someone to see Him, He must have decent reason.

Still though why can only certain people have that ability? I understand in the Bible they were important figures that God chose to have a life changing mission, but these days why is he choosing random people to solve their problems but doesn't do the same for people who need him more? -_-

God doesn't have any selection process in choosing who gets these gifts. All those 'important figures' in the Bible weren't all that special before they met God. Really, He only chose people who were available. And if they didn't receive the gift God gave them, He'd just give it to someone who would receive it. I know it seems sort of unfair, trust me, I do. But God has the longer term in mind. He hasn't failed before so I doubt He'll start now :)

I know they weren't that special but they still made a difference. But according to what I've seen, these people who can supposedly "talk to God" are only getting their own doubts cleared up. Any help for us? Apparently not ^_^

Those figures in the Bible like Abraham, David and Noah were chosen also because they had a deep love and respect for the Lord, so maybe people who are in a serious standstill in their life where they feel like everything's going wrong and need God's guidance should have that ability too if it does exist.

What I'm saying is this, if such a gift does exist, I believe it would be best for the people who desperately seek help from God and who are true followers to receive it because they need it most. However if it's just been given to people he feels like giving it to, I don't know what to think -_-

Since I don't want to believe in such a God, I would just prefer saying he really doesn't talk to people.

It is a really complicated subject to discuss. I quite like your stance on it though :)

Even if God doesn't talk to us, at least He's still beside us :)

It sure is ^_^ And I appreciate it, I only felt like sharing my opinion on the matter :)

That's very true, I'm grateful of the fact that he can still help me at times even without direct contact. Just opening up my mind like he did recently was something I'll always be grateful for

No one knows. I don't even know if God has talked to me. Maybe I haven't opened my eyes enough to see, but who knows. It's all part of His divine plan. Maybe their problems are insignificant, and the do not in fact need Him. Sure, it's irritating not being able to necessarily see or feel His presence, but by being open to your surrounding, you can experience Him in other ways. Granted not in the same way Flinch did, but it's better than not at all ;).

Just because they can talk directly to God doesn't mean they're any more special than anyone else. Some people are suited to be leaders and someone people are more suited to working in the background. There's a lot of stuff that wasn't recorded in the bible, and obviously including the stories about those who could talk to God directly would be better for getting the point across than including a story of someone who follows God more behind the scenes. But this doesn't mean anyone has a better gift than anyone else. I believe all of god's gifts are equally important, despite how much we may want the gift someone else has. "The grass seems greener on the other side of the fence", after all. And God knows better than anyone on earth does, what the best gifts for us are.

The way that he made it sound was that he does it to whoever, should He not be busy. It might happen to you. I dunno.

From what I know, these people he "talks to" aren't working in the background, they just have direct contact with him for whatever reason. Unlike what you said not all gifts are equally important when it comes to this, this is obviously a much greater gift than anything else he can give us, YOU CAN ACTUALLY TALK TO GOD! That's something most people would kill for, this lack of contact is the reason so many atheists exist. If more people had this ability and spread the word about it more people would believe God exists.

However I don't know what he hopes to accomplish by just talking to certain people in secret -_-

I'd beg to differ. It's not the lack of contact, it's the fact that we have a free will. Even the Israelites had issues with trusting in God, even though He lead them through the desert via Moses. Some people are just too stubborn, even though the truth is right there. Besides, the devil also kinda has the world in his hands to a certain degree Mattew 4:8-10. Granted, God has the upper hand, but God also respects the free will He has given to everything He has created, and deems intervention when necessary.

Also this might be of interest: 1 Peter 1:7-8

I wasn't saying that the people he talks to are working in the background. Quite the opposite, actually.

These are the spiritual gifts, and talking to God directly would fall under prophecy. Now, the reason I believe the gifts are equal is because someone that has the gift of prophecy may wish they had another gift like faith or giving, in the same way that someone with the gift of mercy and serving might wish they had the gift of prophecy or leadership.

And I assume that God takes no control about what those with prophecy do with what he tells them unless they specifically ask. He does give us free will after all. It's up to those people with whom he speaks to choose whether to keep it a secret, or use it to spread the good news.

Good morning brethren! (by New York's time zone)

Today my pastor talked about Jesus flipping the tables and his motives for doing so.

Apparently the people selling animals within the temple weren't there to serve God, they were just there to cheat and scam people out of their money.

What would happen was that when someone went to bring up their animal to God as an offering, the people who looked over the animal would say it was imperfect and they had to find a new one.

So they'd be selling these "perfect" animals outside temple for ridiculously high prices.

If I were Jesus, I'd be ticked too that this crap was going on in God's temple.

Well it's obviously not random. Just because you can't personally see the reason doesn't mean there isn't one.

Well yeah, that entire section spells out directly why Jesus was angry at such blasphemy.

It's random because I just don't see why if he actually does do this he can't do it with people who are truly devoted and need him most :( That's the whole point I'm trying to make, I don't want to believe in an unfair God so I would just prefer to believe he doesn't actually make contact with anyone directly -_-

God talks to those he can work through is what I feel. He talks to those in societies that have fallen into evil and temptation. He could be making contact with any of us, but our mind is so clouded that it has to be that God speaks to us (literally speaks). There's also this gift:

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” (Romans 8:26)

Speaking of quotes, I heard this one yesterday as a send-off(granted, difference in religious views):

"May the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the merits of the Blessed Virgin Mary and of all the saints, and also whatever good you do or evil you endure, merit for you the remission of your sins, the increase of grace, and the reward of everlasting life."

Kinda a mouthful, but nice at the same time.
