What's going to happen when the fandom dies down?

These days fandoms don't die.  The rate at which we attract new people will dip but the fandom itself will remain just fine.  And if the show ends and they never make another cartoon then the fandom will still live on.

Had a friend post this on Tumblr.

Teacher: So what do you do now that Harry Potter's over?

Student: Um, it's not over.

Teacher: But there are no more books coming out.

Student: There hasn't been a new Bible for awhile now, but the Bible fandom is still going strong...

Teacher: Touché.

Just because the show ends doesn't necessarily mean the fandom will die off.  Harry Potter is the perfect example of a series, both book and movie, ending and the fandom continues to generate new and exciting things.  I very much assume the MLP fandom will be the same.

Also, I'm reminded of the wise words of a certain purple dragon:  "That's future Spike's problem."   Translation:  Live in the now and enjoy it.  We'll deal with the end if it comes.

As long as they keep making the show, the fandom will still exist one way or another. And bronies have made too much of an impact on the internet to just fade away and be forgotten.

The same thing that happened when the Pokemon fandom died down and it stopped being popular.  Oh, it's still popular?  Well um...  I surprisingly don't have anything funny to say about this.

This fandom will never die! We have to many people, after the show stops, younger bronies will grow up to show others on something like Netflix or YouTube, and making bronies out of past episodes, and, in 5 years, the younger bronies won't be too old.

This fandom won't ever "die". There will always be someone who watches the show, and even if it's only one person, it's still basically a fandom.

In all honesty, I keep passing by this thread mostly because it is really not something I would like to think about but I guess I'll just lay my two bits here for posterity's sake...

If this fandom does die down I will honestly not be to happy about it but I will probably learn to cope with it after a while

It's not worth it to worry about this kind of thing. The fandom won't really die, it will just separate into smaller pieces. Nobody who loved the show will ever forget it, so in a way it will live on as long as we do.

"Worrying about the future is the same as worrying for something unkown"

I think that we can all agree we are going to be the ones to keep the show alive. There have been many other fandoms that still exist today dispite the absents of a programming. Look how long star wars has been around. Even today they are still selling merchandise and finding ways to promote its name. I know someone who was a star wars fan way back when it started and is still a fan today. I say we enjoy the program for what it is and let the fun we have with it last.

Freindship is magic will always live in my mind as one of the greatest shows out there, no matter the passing of time. I will still be a fan and communicate to other fans that stay long after the show has ended. And it is us who will keep the show alive years after the show stops airing new episodes. If they put reruns then I will watch them, or even on the Internet. It it a show that has changed who I am and for that reason I will never forget it.

Freindship is magic will end. I know this, but it is the impact we the fans have created that will cause it to live on in history as a show that changed the way we view programmings forever.

But, why enjoy it, if we know it's going to end? It's like enjoying your last day on Earth before the world ends. Why do it? It won't change anything. It's still going to happen. It'll be as if bronies never existed.

I'm wondering how you deal with these nagging thoughts. Personally, it saddens me to know that in ten years or less, the bronies will just be a memory.

Well, let's take your own words. Why NOT enjoy it? Feeling sad about it won't change it either, so enjoy it at least while it lasts.

Two things you guys should keep in mind with this issue:

  1. The fandom is just hitting it's zenith, there are many years before it will die down - and by then you might not even be interested in it anymore, so you won't even notice it.
  2. If you are so confident that you are still interested in MLP in 5 or 10 years, why do you worry so much? You won't be the only person who feels that way and thus it will still be alive in 5 or 10 years, maybe even so lively that you barely notice that all the biters left.

Take those words to your heart for a moment and you will feel better.

Let me tell you something, friend.

Life is WAY too awesome to worry. You're here now, so enjoy it while you are!

If you think about it, we are the lucky ones! We are the children of the internet, since its kind of a recent thing. We have made it what it is today. WE ARE THE FOUNDERS!  :D

Most things will end, but here is the code I live by. I see life as a challenge, and my life goal is to achieve my dreams, help as many people as I can, and die smiling!

Some movements are so powerful that they remain and prosper; not all good things must come to an end. I'm positive that there will be a time when the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fandom will shrink, but it will never completely die. Even if it slowly fades from the lives of others, I'll be one of those Pegasisters standing proud before an Equestria flag. Becoming a Pegasister has touched my life in a variety of different ways. I've been blessed with the opportunity to connect with thousands of others with the same interests through the Internet and I've also made a great group of friends outside of the Internet. I can't tell you how reserved and afraid I was to even open my mouth and speak before I joined the herd. I was constantly fearful of what might happen if I voiced my opinion, but now I'm not.

As for the rest of what you said, its like brushing your teeth. Why do it when you know they will get dirty again? Why take care of yourself when you know you will just get dirty or sick or injured again in the future? We do these things so we can live in the now.

There's no need to repeat what has already been stated if I feel the same exact way so I'll leave this quote from the first page here for you to read if you choose to. What you said seems a bit silly to me.

I believe that humans tend to waste too much time being a worrywart over what might happen rather than using that time wisely and enjoying what's there before it must vanish. A foolish mistake, in my opinion. Wouldn't you rather be grateful for the experiences you've encountered and the memories you've made than being upset afterwards because you used up all of that time being a worrywart? It's like the meaning of life; live it to its fullest. I would definitely want to make the best of things before the end.

as long as things remain the way they are, and no issues arise (such as something that will break the fandom in half), i think this fandom will last. i mean, just look at the trekkies. they are still around.  they aren't as big as they used to be, but the DO still exist, and until they all die of old age and cholesterol, their fandom will continue to exist. i feel the same about the brony fandom.

Something tells me that somepony has completely underestimated the power of a thriving and passionate community. There are tons of things that have basically ended but still have an incredibly strong fanbase. I was thinking about this whole thing recently, and I can assure you that the love will not die.
