The negatives and Positives of the MLP Fandom

I would like to highlight some of the positive and negatives of this fandom that I've noticed. You can agree or disagree or feel free to add your own input to this topic. These are all the ones I see on a daily basis on the MLP forums I'm apart of or just the interwebz in general.

 

 

Positives:

 

1. The diversity of the fans: there are lots of diverse fans in the MLP universe the ever before who all something unique to offer the fandom.

 

2. Pony Creations: There has been several fanfictions and awesome fan art that have been created from the show along with fan made merchandise.

 

3. Gatherings: This fandom has created and started many friendships from the one main thing we all can agree on which is ponies!

 

Negatives:

 

1. Porn: I mean WTF? Are you into beastiality or something? This isn't normal and you need help! There's nothing lustful about ponies!

 

2. Overreactions: I see a lot of people overreact about who is BEST pony or something trivial like a pony ship even though I personally don't ship the mane six together because it doesn't suit me. There are also a lot of times I've seen when someone will bash someone about a certain opinion on the show.

 

3. Rainbow Dash: Shes awesome and also overrated!

 

4. Clopfics: I've read a few but an abomination like the "Cupcakes" and "Sweet Apple Massacre" don't belong on the Internet!

 

5. Merchandise: I see a lot of fans bash Hasbro merchandise and complain that it's not geared toward them when in reality it never was! It was made for little girls! Go buy something at hot topic!

welcome to Fandoms..... in general, bash certain things if you want but its still gonna be there, just like fans who ignore the fact that others in the fan base can be very intolerant an vial towards others.

 

also those are Grimdarks not clopfics and the perfectly fine from a creative standpoint despite the misconception that the writers at sich in the head. yes S.A.M is a sick fanfics but Cupcake is quite enjoyable to read at times..... i enjoyed it more then i did other fics like My Little Dashie

But the positives, yeah, and there is much more. Especially the part where people are generally nicer than in most communities and don't just bash others for no reason. Yeah, irony intended.

I disagree with you, mainly because all of your negatives were worded to sound provocative. Also cupcakes and Sweet Apple Massacre aren't clopfics, so I'm pretty sure you're trolling.

If you love the show, then as a fan you can accept the pros and cons. However, each fandom you come across is going to have such things. There is no way around it. But it seems you care more for the pros than cons. It's rather unfortunate that you are focusing on such things.

I am pretty much with you on the positives but most of the negatives you mentioned are simply matters of personal taste. Sure clopfics and gorefics may not be everyone's thing and that is okay but exactly who are these people harming by indulging in them? You could argue that children shouldn't see them but that really is their parents job.

Ummm not sure if trolling? I am just going to say trolling and dismiss that -_- Please read the blog of "Eljordo" a user of this site on clopping, he made a very strong case for it despite the fact he does not partake in it.

 

Also, Rainbow Dash? Yeah she is the best pony. Anybody with a seemingly insurmountable goal and intense passion for something understands.

With every fandom comes positives and negatives. 

With every fan comes personal tastes.

When we mix the two, positives and negatives are ambiguous terms, at best, and are irrelevant. Everyone is different, and not everyone's views will match up. Many people are into the R34 stuff, so you're probably going to get "bashed on" for that. I personally am not, but I am accepting, as I believe most people should be, not just on these things, but on many others, as well. 

 

However, there are things that I am not accepting of, such as threads like these. I can't really see you doing anything other than provoking those that will disagree with you, and as I've stated, positives and negatives are essentially ambiguous terms, thus giving this thread virtually no value whatsoever from the start of the idea.

Unavoidable, every fandom(and yes I mean every fandom) is going to get turned on by these things. Whining about them would just be trivial

 

 

2. Overreactions: I see a lot of people overreact about who is BEST pony or something trivial like a pony ship even though I personally don't ship the mane six together because it doesn't suit me. There are also a lot of times I've seen when someone will bash someone about a certain opinion on the show.

People will always have characters who they like and dislike, that's a given. Fans also enjoy doing weird things with the characters, like Psycho Pinkie or Lesbian Dash(and I dislike both ideas), and it will usually take off if enough fans like the ideas, whether or not you or me dislike it.

 

 

While to an extent, I would agree.....

Those are horror fics, not clop fics, and again, like the the rule 34 point, unless you can rally up every single fan and force them to change it's unavoidable  

 

 

 

5. Merchandise: I see a lot of fans bash Hasbro merchandise and complain that it's not geared toward them when in reality it never was! It was made for little girls! Go buy something at hot topic!

I don't know about you, but even as a kid, I'd still be hella pissed if I got a toy of one of my favorite characters and it looked completely different from said character.

 

On top of that, it's sorta unprofessional. Seriously, Pink Celestia is something I'd expect from a Chinese knock-off

I can understand the negatives of the fandom, but the Porn part. O_O , pretty disturbing but you know everything comes with positive and negative feedback.

I think the positives are that it has brought us all closer together. Without the love of the show, we'd never know each other existed. And all the art. The negatives are that it's caused so much hate, granted between both sides. And of course, the clopping. I mean that's just wrong. I'm not trying to offend anyone, but that would just ruin the show completely for me.

Why do people try to find negatives.  I mean ok that exists but is it really important enough for someone to just keep saying they dislike it.  Some people like it and that is there right.  (I personally don't).  IMO the only negative is that people try to find negatives in the fandom.  Every fandom has that and the brony fandom is no different.  If we forget that, we forget to tolerate.

I've actually had a little conversation with an internet friend who revealed himself to be a writer for FimFiction and writes some clopfics. I asked him why he enjoys clopfics, and he stated that it has nothing to do with them actually being ponies. It's just seeing the characters that he likes be in a romantic relationship with one another. May I stress the word ROMANTIC. It's not a sake of sex for the sake of it. And in these sorts of stories, they face greater problems that they overcome. Much like this needless hatred of people who appreciate clopfics. I'm actually open enough to go ahead and give them a try myself, and I read one of this guy's stories. I can see where he was coming from. It's a lot more than just seeing two ponies go at each other.

 

Also, these are like the opposite of clopfics, which you have mentioned, so I guess the number 1 was aimed to clopfics. I happen to enjoy grimdark fanfics when written well, like Rainbow Factory. Cupcakes was ok.

 

You're not a fan of the two extremes. That's fine. But there are people who enjoy the two extremes and just because you don't doesn't mean you have to go complain about them. Especially don't go ahead and brand them as some mentally disturbed person, because very often they're not.

 

Sometimes I love having an open mind because I can delve deeper into matters like this, and it's actually interesting when you actually delve into why people like certain things which are deemed to be 'wrong'. I mean, grimdark. Not a whole lot to say there. It's about the intense amount of emotion in the stories, not for the love of seeing MLP characters being brutally murdered. It's the shock factor. A feeling of sadness.

^You seem to be over reacting right there. I'm not into beastiality, I'm normal and don't need help, and yes, there are attractive things about the ponies (obviously not real ponies though)

First off, they're neither clopfics nor are they abominations. They (and clopfics) are creative works of writing and should be respected as such. Second, the only things that doesn't belong on the Internet are things that are illegal. Haters could say that mlp doesn't belong on the Internet. Are they right? Absolutely not.

Most fans are fine that the Hasbro merchandise isn't geared toward them and know that it never was meant to be. Hell, I have a couple in my room. The thing most complain about is that they are not well made. As was mentioned before, pink Celestia is something I'd expect from a cheap Chinese knock off. For the first one, I mean I guess its ok for people that want to see it but its on the internet, and really easily accidentally accessible (lol didn't mean for the triple A words) and I would prefer if people didn't do that stuff for those that don't wanna see it xD

The only negative that I find to this fandom is, the fact that people can't take criticism when the time comes. Almost as if they believed they were entitled to praise for every single thing they create. Worse is the people that enable that behavior...
