Does anyone think Trixie The Great is a good magician

This is totz my thing.

Short Answer: No.

Long Answer: Of course not! Trixie specializes in flashy, non powerful magic. This magic is supposed to look good, not be powerful. It couldn't rival a pony who specializes in non-flashy powerful magic when it comes to power, but beats it by a long shot in beauty.

Trixie's power is under no circumstance the reason she is a good character. I state why on my profile. Since I'm lazy... read that (It's under "Best Pony?")

It depends.

If Trixie held a contest for who could do the flashiest and most entertaining magic (her special talent is "tricks," so...), then it's entirely possible that she could win. Not guaranteed, but possible. Twilight's magic is more often utilitarian than flashy.

No, and it was kindof proven already. In the first episode with her, she couldn't stop the ursa minor, while Twilight could. Twilight could have easily beaten Trixie at magic, but she chose not to during her show as tonot seem like a show-off.

She's a terrific showman (showmare?) but her magical skills leave something to be desired.  Note how most of her non-supercharged spells involve levitation and extremely simple appearance changes.

Then again, if that's all she needs to run a good show, I'd say she's a pretty good magician indeed.

That's really all there is to say on the matter.

She's an excellent performer and has done things with her magic the likes of which we've never seen Twilight do, but she is nowhere near as powerful as Twilight. She is a very good stage magician, though.

Trixie is more of an illusionist. She can do real magic, but much of what she does (minus the amulet) is stage magic. I don't think there would be any real contest between her and Twilight if Trixie didn't have the help of a magic amulet. While we're talking about her, that filly really should work on getting over her mistrust of wheels.
