Thunder pondered for a minute. He hadn't really been thinking about where they were going. He didn't want to admit that he had no idea where the exit was, though.

 

"Well, I was mostly just following you, so I wasn't paying much attention, but I'm pretty sure this is the right way." At least I certainly hope it is.

Firebolt giggled again. "I'm just kidding. I have a photographic memory... It's this way." She said pointing in the other direction. She trotted on, that way, being almost confident in her decision. She wanted to stir up more conversation with him, but couldn't think of a topic.

Thunder sighed in relief, glad they weren't lost.

 

"Wow... you have amazing hearing and a photographic memory? You really are incredible. Not to mention how beaut- I mean... um... yeah, you're really... interesting."

Firebolt blushed slightly at him saying that. It was obvious he was nervous. "Yea, well it is kinda backwards. I mean, an auditory memory would be more useful... But, it's quite nice." She said turning back at him. "And, what were you about to say?" She asked, blushing a bit more.

Firebolt giggled again and looked back at him. "Thank you." She said quickly. "I think the exit is around here, anyways. Provided memory serves right of course." As per usual, Firebolt had some doubt in her sense of direction. She had gotten lost far too often...

Wait, what? He told her she was beautiful and she just laughed? She wasn't going to slap him or anything? Not even an awkward pause? Maybe he had a chance with her after all.

 

"I... you don't have to thank me, it's true. I've been trying to tell you that all night, but I thought you would think I was a creep or something. You probably still do. Just... forget I said anything."

Firebolt looked back at him. "Really? You don't need to be so shy, you know." She turned back away from him, realizing how plucky she was being. She sighed quietly, knowing she should probably be more careful. Huh. Where is this exit anyway?  Firebolt wandered, hoping they weren't lost.

Thunder sighed.

 

"Well, it's just that... ponies have a tendency to assume the worst of me, you know? I don't know if it's because I'm a zebra, or if it's my scars or how big I am or what, but ponies always seem to find a way to make it seem like whatever I'm doing is wrong. And... I really like you, so I didn't want you to think I was a pervert, or that I was trying to force myself on you or something. But I think you might be... different from other ponies. You didn't jump to conclusions or get mad at me or anything. I've never met a mare who didn't do anything like that before."

Firebolt stopped walking and waited for him to walk to beside her. As he did, she leaned on him slightly. "Eh. Don't worry about that. I... uh. Nevermind." Firebolt began, looking away quickly. She didn't really want to bring herself up, after all, her issues were quite trivial in comparison.

Thunder blushed and felt a rush of warmth spread through his body as she leaned on him. This was as personal as he'd ever gotten with a mare.

 

"What is it? You can tell me. I promise whatever it is, I won't think any less of you. Although I can't imagine what secret you could have that could be so bad."

 

Thunder paused for a minute and then added, "Of course, it's okay if you don't want to tell me. I understand."

"I'd prefer not to tell you..." She said quietly biting her lip, still leaning against him. "It's nothing. Really." She smiled at him, before realizing her ears had flopped back. Good job, Firebolt. You're not hiding anything at all. She stopped looking at him, and thought of something to ask, but could think of nothing.

"That's alright then. I won't make you tell me. If it's really important, I'm sure you'll tell me when you think it's right. But just know that whatever it is, I'm sure it's okay. I don't think there's anything that could make you seem like anything less than an angel to me."

Firebolt turned to him quickly. "Erm. What?" She knew he was just trying to be nice, but that line kind of confused her. She sat down on the cold floor, waiting for an answer. She didn't like him standing over her, so she looked away, slightly, and bit her lip a bit.

He sat down facing her.

 

"Well... I mean, um... I guess I was just trying to say that you're so beautiful, and you've treated me better than anyone else ever has, and when you were sleeping earlier you just looked so innocent and peaceful and with your wings I guess you just kind of  lookedlike an angel to me. That's okay, right. You're not mad at me now, are you?"

Firebolt was still a bit confused by his words. She wasn't sure if he lacked social skills, or was just, well, a creep. She let her ears flop back again, and attempted to change the subject. "That's kind of ironic, actually." She said, spreading her wings "Generally you don't think of dark grey as too angelic."

Dox was too embarrassed to say anything, he just nodded, his cheeks flushing red. 'Smooth move, Dox, she probably thinks you're some perverted pony now...' He got up and stretched, cracking his back and sighing. He levitated hiswater bottle over and took a swig.

Thunder looked down again, feeling awkward and ashamed to have even said anything.

 

"I don't know, I... I guess I just see angels differently from most people. If I had to draw a picture of what I thought an angel looked like, it might as well be a portrait of you.", he paused, "I...you... this is weird isn't it? You probably think I'm crazy or something."

Dashie woke up with her muzzle buried in someponies shoulder. She was a little confused as to how she ended up here, so she rolled off the bed and landed on her hoofs to get a better look. She looked at the sleeping Gears. "aww, He's even cute when he's asleep." She walked out the tent and stretched.

"W-well, I slept good as usual, but it was even better with you sleeping next to me..." He is still blushing, but looks over and sees she's eating bad apples. "Uh, wouldn't you like something fresher? I've got apples from Sweet Apple Acres if you want one." He goes over and gets one out, showing her.

Firebolt blinked, very confused. "Uh. A bit weird." She said quietly, before nudging him with her hoof playfully. She closed her wings again, and looked around. She didn't remember the bit they were in, expecting she had made a wrong turn. Sighing, Firebolt closed her eyes and tuned her ears to hear better.

Thunder blushed when she nudged him, elated simply by her touch. Then he noticed her looking around before closing her eyes.

 

"Is there something wrong?" 

 

Thunder looked around, afraid they might be lost. He didn't remember this part of the cave, but he trusted Firebolt to get them out.

Firebolt kept her eyes closed, and stayed quiet for a bit. After about a minute, she said "Nah. We're good." Let's just hope I can keep up that lie... Firebolt was trying to listen for flowing water, or wind. She was quiet tired at this point, so her hearing was slightly distorted.

Thunder stared at her for a minute, worried.  He tried to analyze her face to see if he could figure out what the problem was, but he couldn't.

 

"Are you sure, you look...", Thunder sighed, "You know what? I'm just going to trust that you know yourself. If there's something wrong, though, please tell me. Maybe I can help"
