Hello there! I am new to this community...Researching Bronies!

I'm actually a student in college who is researching this MLP forum for a final project (In a group of 4 members)...

 

A little info on myself: My name is Stephanie and I'm an animator/artist/pony enthusiast! I've watched episodes since October of 2011.

 

I hope you will welcome me with open hooves! This is a lovely group of devoted fans. ^u^

What influenced you to join mlpforums? What made you join the fandom?

Welcome to the forums! I actually just did a project on bronies for  my sociology- sex, gender and power class.

 

In answer to your questions:

 

I don't know what made me decide to join mlpforums, because I've never used any other forums or social networking sites at all. I guess I just thought it was time. I stumbled on this site when I was searching for a link to watch a new episode of mlp, and for some reason it interested me enough that I decided to join, although I honestly didn't expect to be very active, and I figured I would probably leave and forget about it after a day or two. But I didn't, and now it's pretty much taken over my life.

 

I first started watching mlp because I made a deal with my friend that I would watch it if he watched Highlander. Of course, he never actually did watch Highlander because he's a scumbag, but I don't really care because after the first few epidsodes, I was hooked, and I've never looked back. I didn't become active in the fandom until I stumbled on this site, and I decided to stay and talk about it, because it gave me a sense of belonging that I had never really had before.

 

I hope that answers your questions, I would write more but I really need to go to bed soon, and I'm not sure how much more you would really want to read anyway.

Oh no, I'm really thankful you responded. Thank you, it's interesting to hear how fans got hooked on the show. 

 

The way I started watching the show was I saw fanart all over DeviantART and I got curious ... I watched a few episodes from the middle of the first season and I couldn't stop watching! 

 

Hahah, that sucks your friend didn't hold his side of the bargain, but at least he got you to watch ponies!

I really dunno, the real reason was to just check the calendar about upcoming episodes but seeing that this forum is gives me lots of opportunities to give advice and/or help one another.... maybe because i wanted to explore being in the herd.

 

I got hooked up on this not by TV but by DA/DeviantArt...I was hanging out in my usual rp room and well my RP mates started to talk about MLP .. I got curious and asked what's My Little Pony.. so they started to explain it to me and if i had any question on it, they gave me another chatroom for bronies... I started to interact with them and slowly I understood it... they gave me links on each episodes... so yeah.. that's how i got into this fandom.

First off, welcome to the forums!

 

I had known about the fandom for awhile but I had no intention of joining at first. It wasn't until I was at home channel surfing that I would actually watch an episode of the show. I was curious as to why bronies enjoyed this show, so I gave it a try. After finishing that episode (it happened to be Sisterhooves Social), I ended up watching the rest on youtube; I was hooked. 

 

I decided to look for a forum to join so that I could be more involved in the fandom really. This happened near the end of my MLP marathon by the way.

Why i joined MLP forums: I recently beacme a brony and was looking at all the sites for talk on mlp and to have a fun time.

 

What made me join this fandom?: I watched videos mostly on youtube about spoofs and PMV s and thought it was pretty cool, I dabbled in and out of this for a little while then i got into the music and Absolutely loved it! Now im currently halfway done with season 1 (started watching yesterday) I just love everything about MLP. The community is just awesome, and hope to be apart of it from now to the end.

What influenced you to join MLPForums?: [say MLPForums or lil' old Feld0 will get mad] Let's just say I was on a forum of jerks. Being on a forum of jerks was really, really boring and not entertaining. So I searched 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Forums'. This was the top choice. After browsing and checking how this site was, I made the decision to join.

 

What made you join the fandom?: On that forum of jerks, there was one nice guy who liked ponies. He made a club for ponies. A lot of people joined. I was all like 'WTF if this sh**' and decided to see how bad this show was. Didn't get into it until I saw Dragonshy. I loved that episode and I watched the rest. By the time I watched the first episode of the Season Two opening [i watched the videos after The Return of Harmony was released] I was hooked.

Hi Fluttershykit!  Welcome to the forums!  I've been here less than a week, so I'm just learning my way around as well.  I think it's cool that you're doing a project on this fandom - will we get to see the results of it when it's done?

 

I'm one of those people who started watching the show more under protest than anything.  My wife had started watching it after a bunch of our friends got into it, and she decided she really liked it.  She convinced me to start watching, and at first I didn't want to like it.  But it eventually won me over, and then I discovered the BronyDoc "trailer" on YouTube.  Wanting to learn more about it, I found a link to a blog post on this forum discussing the BronyDoc, and when I discovered just how interesting a community it was, I decided to join on the spot.

 

I have to say, even though I'm not terribly active here (yet), joining this forum and embracing the fandom has felt like moving to a whole new town.  Lots of new people to meet who I have something in common with.  And admitting to myself that I actually really like the show and care about the characters has honestly been a tremendous relief of tension - yeah, it's a girly kid's show full of moral lessons, but it's a GOOD show, and they're lessons we all could benefit from being reminded of once in a while.

What made me join the site? Well, i looked on google for something. I found this site which had a thread on what i was looking on it. I wanted to reply but i needed an account and decided to register. Simple as that.

 

What made me join the fandom? Well, a while ago, my sister watched it while it was still in the 1st season. She was a brony for a while. (Now, she is much freaking out about anime/japanase stuff but still a brony.) and i was wondering what the hell it was. She showed it to me one day. And the first time i saw it, i thought : ''This is really girly.'' but then after a while, i was wondering if it was that good and why my sister liked it, i then started watching the 1st/2nd episode when there was a countdown for season 2. Did took me a while to start watching it. I kinda liked it.

 

I could had said more details but i cant remember since it was a while ago.

I will be posting a separate thread if I don't get enough participants, but would anyone here be interested in a Skype interview? I need at least 5 fan interviews (which must be recorded) to successfully complete my research roject. It would be very general questions about the brony fandom / community so nothing very difficult.

 

Of course, I'll show you the official research paper documents explaining how your information will be handled and kept private! We could set up a time in the next few weeks (I'm free almost always, except for when I am in class.)

well i join this forum cause i was looking for a group to try playing DND ,using pony, with so i google for it and this site showed up

What made you join the fandom?

i was bored on day and the season 1 ep 1 and 2 were playing so i watched it as a joke and end up enjoying it and became a fan then i think i became a official brony when fall weather friends air and i started buying the merch

I don't think I can be much help with a Skype interview, but I'd be happy to answer questions via email or something.

 

One thing I'd caution you on: There's been a fair amount of controversy in the fandom lately (I just happened to walk in on it as it was starting) that could influence people's responses to your questions (depending on what they are).  The two main controversies I'm aware of are the shutting down of "Fighting is Magic" (a fan video game), and Twilight Sparkle's ascension to Princess status (with what many are calling a badly executed season finale).  Depending on who you talk to, these things may or may not affect your interviewee's view of the fandom - not saying you shouldn't touch on that.  Just be aware of it.

Actually, i just found the forum randomly. I just thought it would be cool to join a MLP forum like this one.

It all started in August 2012, I think. I watched the episodes, then I eventually became a "brony". (I'm a girl, and i think "Pegasister" sounds weird for a girl fan, so i'm calling myself a brony)

Q1: What influenced me to join mlpforums, was I was searching through Google for My Little Pony stuff and then I came upon this forum. So I joined, and I was set for life ever since.

 

Q2: I have a friend on Playstation, that is a brony and he told me to watch some episodes. So I did, then I decided to join a forum that will welcome me with open hooves. Well, here we are.
