Spike and Rarity sitting in a tree... How far should it develop?

Okay, I'm not asking for deep character development from a show aimed a six-year olds, but I am curious as to what the production bible may say about Spike and Rarity.  Does Rarity see Spike as only cute and harmless?  Does she acknowledge more?

 

And more important: What are they going to do with it?

 

And what do the Bronies think?  Would they want any kind of development between the two?  (Really, how would that even work???)  Or should it be kept as is...an unrequited crush?

 

Where do you see the Spike/Rarity thing going, if anywhere?

I honestly hope they keep it to a crush.It'd just be weird to have Spike and Rarity in a relationship since Spike is like,a very mature six-year-old kid.It'd be statutory rape probably illegal on Rarity's end methinks if they were in a relationship. :x

 

If they have to ship Spike with somebody,I'd go with either Sweetie Bell or Applebloom.It'd make more sense and feel less weird,in my own opinion.Plus it can still give the morals of a relationship (or something) across to children,so there's also that as well.

If Spike and Rarity get together, I'd want it pre-established that within the world of Equestria sentient creatures of differnet species get together sometimes.  Otherwise it'd be kinda weird.

 

Honestly, I don't think that Rartiy feels about Spike the way he does about her, and in a weird way that makes it more romantic to me.  The end of Spike at Your Service where she puts her hoof to his mouth was extremely sweet and mautre on her part.

I think the Spike/rarity relationship is like a schoolyard crush to Rarity and a sure thing to Spike. Rarity knows about Spike's crush on her but doesn't acknowledge it to prevent awkwardness between them. So as far as Spike knows, Rarity doesn't know that he has a crush on her. I feel like even if Spike grows up he would still be in the friendzone

I'd like them to keep at it, because its so cute and sweet.  But, they can't and they won't go too far.  Spike is far too young compared to Rarity.  And that would be weird. 

But I like the crush thing.  It's adorable and they should continue it.

Huh.I honestly don't know a word for just having a relationship with a minor.Only other one I can think of is pedophilia,but it still has sexual connotation. :s

I think the whole crush thing is cute and all...

But it would never establish too far in the show.

 

Now if this was a future Spike and Rarity then maybe.

But until then it should just be a little crush.

It's sorta like a zombie movie,   yes there's going to be a wild journey,  but in the end we know what will happen.

 

 

Dragons live much longer than ponies.   No matter what happens between the two,  for the bulk of his life, spike will be without rarity,   he either has a lifetime to lament this,  or to find another.

Part of me wants to see the overarching storylines more thoroughly developed next season, but I know that's not very likely in a half-hour cartoon aimed at children.

 

I imagine any kind of real relationship drama will have to be done through the comics, since they seem like they're actually targeting an older demographic.

I really can't see Rarity going forward with this.  For one thing, there's too much of an age difference- Spike's still just a kid, Rarity's an adult, albeit a relatively young one.  And if you look at their relationship, yes she cares about him, but she cares about him like he's a kid brother that she loves, not a romantic equal. 

 

To me, the absolute best fit for rarity is a male version of herself.  Which makes her sound like she's totally full of herself, but look at it- not only does that feed into her sense of vanity, , but it also gives her someone who would be stylish, elegant, appreciative of the finer things in life, yet also generous and kind. 

 

(which is why I like the idea of the fanfic "On a Cross and an Arrow").
