Possible disabled pony episode on the way!

She was never intended in the first place. She was noticed by a fandom and not created by the writers. So her eyes were never intended to be used as a comedic element. She simply is what she is. People who think her eyes are there for comedy are the same people who caused this controversy in the first place. Finally the reason I added IMO at the end of my post is to infer sarcasm at her being a part of the main 6.

Derpy's eyes were an animation error, bronies spotted this and made a big deal over it, and thus the writers decided to include Derpy in the Last Roundup as an easter egg and a wave to the bronies. Although it would be nice to see this happen but I wouldn't hold my breath. It would change the show a little to much. This could work in a show like Adventure Time where minor characters can have episodes devoted to them with out disrupting the show to much but this would require a lot of set up unfortunately.

Well, I believe she shouldn't fly. It's not because I'm a heartless monster, it is because I want the show to stick to what Lauren had in the first place, and Lauren did state in a tweet her original idea was for her to get in a large amount of fights due to her not flying.

I don't think we need to take Scootaloo's wings away I think its more like she just can't use them to fly. Like when you clip a birds wings so they can't escape your house or whatever. I like the fact that she can't fly. It makes her unique like Derpy, They are both one of a kind ponies. Who else in ponyville or Equestria for that matter can shread like Scootaloo!

Potentially, this could be the greatest idea for an episode in series history.

 

Disabilities are a serious issue that many children face. If MLP could help put a smile on these children's faces, and give us a serious look at the problems disabled children face, it could transcend the show as we see it today.

 

Alternatively, we could end up with an insulting trivialization of the issue, as we saw in One Bad excuse for an anti-bullying episode that the writers should be bucking ashamed of Apple, but I like to remain optimistic.

If we're talking about Scoots and Derpy being the only stick out possibilities, it's ten times more likely to be Scoots than Derpy, and I hope everyone knows that xP Even if Derpy isn't phased out of the show by the time S4 is in full swing, she's still a BG pony, and an entire episode plot centering on her seems unlikely.

Honestly, any more episodes that have even a minor chance of being about Scoots excites me, because it has potential for her and Dash's new found relationship since Sleepless in Ponyville to be expanded upon. Dash was shown aiding Scoots in flying at the very end of said episode. It'd be neat if Dash and Scoots worked to find a solution for Scoots to fly, or do something similar to flying, to get around her handicap.

See how the question is phrased? It's "Do you know if there will be an episode about disabilities?" not "Will there be an episode about disabilities?" Megan answers "Yes" which means that she knows whether there will or will not be an episode about disabilities. She does not however confirm that there will be one, like everybody seems to think

 

Personally, I think that such an episode would be great Whether it would revolve around Scootaloo or Derpy, it would have MASSIVE potential. It's an important lesson to learn to accept and be nice to everyone, no matter how stupid or disabled they are. This kind of episode would also be a great growth-point for Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. If anypony needs some serious character development, it's those two :3 Having grown with five siblings who are all in some way disabled or... well I won't lie... stupid, has taught me the importance of acceptance, and I think it's important for everyone to learn that we are all worthy to be living in this society

And I agree those two are reasonable choices. Out those two I think that most likly Scootalo is going to be the disabled pony. And I would love for either one to be the star of this episode.

Anyways even thought I love these two options everyone is saying I cannot deny the fact that there is a nagging in my head that's telling me that there might be another character. This character could have a disability such as blindness, def in the ears, etc. The possibilities are endless.

We already had it touched upon when Rainbow Dash flew her around at the end of Slepless in Ponyville, it touched me because I knew that RD was helping her to feel the dream she could never achieve for herself. If this was addressed directly it would be amazing, really introduce a more mature and serious dynamic to the show.

I highly doubt that we will get a derpy centered episode. We all know what happened last time she talked, and that was only for a minute or two, an entire episode about her would probably not happen (although it would be epic). If we get a disability centered episode than it will probably be about scootaloo or it will feature a new charactor.

I think they would introduce a new character for an episode like this. Something just tells me that they are not going to directly refer to scootaloo as disabled.

But srsly, this sounds really interesting. Possibly the most mature episode of the show if done right. If it ends up being focused on a main character (I want it to be Scootaloo), it could be magnificent.

 

I really want a Derpy episode, but she shouldn't be the focus of the episode. Her episode or story (if she gets one) should be fun and light hearted, which this theme would not entail. Plus, if it's Scootaloo, there's that bonus of putting everything we know about a character and her actions up to that point and taking it into a new direction (if she doesn't know she can't fly) or putting it into perspective (if she already knows she's disabled but is trying to fight that fate)

Why is Patrick Star ok? Why is the dumb Ed from Ed, Ed, and Eddy ok? Derpy was banned because of trolls! They had nothing to do but moan and complain about a beloved character.

 

But great answer by the way. I do hope they make the episode about Derpy! 

And on that same note why are Snips and Snails okay? You could easily make a good case that they are walking talking stereotypes when it hasn't been confirmed one way or another that Derpy is mentally challenged. I would love this to be a Derpy episode though as I could see how she could be falsely seen as mentally challenged due to her eyes, clumsiness and child like nature. Unfortunately due to the controversy that is extremely unlikely so unless they introduce a new character it is probably going to be Scootaloo as she was originally intended to be disabled anyway which would explain her difficulties with flying.

 

Despite this being a non Derpy episode I am still excited about this possibly though as dealing with the disabled is extremely important and often misunderstood issue. People often assume that being disabled is some kind of death sentence when in many cases even the disabled can still lead fulfilling lives and contribute a great deal to society.
