You have to go around the world of fanfictions to understand why there is a lot of people loathes those ponies. More often than not, those emo ponies are a) superbly strong and destined to save the world while being humble about it, or b­) ridiculously old with dark past and being loved by everyone despite being a jackass

 

And some of those fics are considered popular and even featured on fimfiction
