There are actually two different calories: The one with the capital C (which is the kilocalorie) and the one with the lowercase C.

 

Also a thousand thousand is a mega, but given the ambiguity, you either burned off one kilocalorie or one megacalorie.

60 seconds is not enough time. Try 60 hours.

I think it's referring to the "uppercase" calorie.

That's exactly what's in my physics textbook, besides, those are all SI prefixes, so they're standard everywhere.

Giga is a billion. If you've ever heard 1.21 gigawatts, that's about 1.21 billion watts of electric power, which I think is an underestimate of the average bolt of lightning. I might be wrong.

 

Tera is a trillion. Ever heard of a terabyte hard drive? You can store a trillion bytes of information on it.

I've never seen those prefixes put in front of calories before, which is why it confused me.

Make sense seeing as how its from a physics book...which makes no sense at all.
