Eh, not really. It's a case-by-case thing in my opinion. if you give an earth pony a keen hearing or sight, or a pegasi an uncanny ability on archery, it's pretty much acceptable.

I'm guessing your not white? I change from a white bittercap mushroom into a crimson red tomato in less then 15 minutes in the summer.

We are talking about ponies and their coat, right?

 

Some of my friends are quite white, and we live in a tropical country, in an island famous for its beach nevertheless. They never change their skin color no matter how long they stand under the sunlight. I guess it's different for each people.
