Fireball walked in confidently. She mentally checked her mane, and coat, and made sure that she was ready. This was going to be the best night ever, whether it killed her or not. She was also hoping that a certain somepony would have also been invited...

(Sorry, had a usy day today. Won't be on much.)

Slide greeted some other ponies, and turned to notice one of the most beatiful mares he'd ever seen. (Shooting Star.) Welp, one advantage to being the host is that I have an excuse to talk to everypony now. He walked ocer to the mare, and saw another stallion with her already. No bother. He thought. I'll make this work.

He walked up to her and then dipped his head a bit. "Hey there, pretty filly. I don't believe I've talked to you yet. I'm Slide Grease, but most of my friends just call me Slide. I'm the host of this party, and I believe you're the only guest I haven't talked to," he lied. "So, anyways, enough about me, I'm quite a boring pony. What about yourself, beatiful mare?"

Storm almost crashed into another pony as he walked out the door, and though they didn't seem to notice he uttered "S-sorry..." before leaving. The air outside felt cold, and the sun was beginning to set. An orange glow overwhelmed him as he stood still at the front steps. He had gone without anyone even recognizing he was there... well, besides Heather. Perhaps she lived in town, he doubted they wouldn't cross paths again. He still hurt, it wasn't just her. Nobody had bothered speaking a word to the storm cloud of a pegasus, he could pretend he didn't like attention but he knew the feeling was loneliness. He couldn't leave yet, he hadn't found his special somepony. He had only made one friend. Hadn't met the party's host. Had eaten most of the food...

He swallowed some of the bits of cake and frosting that lingered in his mouth. His drooping eyes were angrier, angry at himself for bothering. The clouds above teased Storm with a pure white, like the rest. He was different, never belonged. "This isn't healthy, Storm. Get yourself together." His tightly clenched wings unfolded with a glint of gold as his mane flopped back and he flew up into the sky, circling the house for a moment. It looked nicer than he remembered, as nice as the ponies inside. Storm tugged and spun on a cloud until it was a grey that matched his own color, and perched upon it as it released rain. Waiting was all he could do. Maybe it made him look strange, waiting outside here next to the house, but perhaps he would be confronted. His eyes drooped again as the rain hit the ground below.

"Who does this foal think he is? Can't he see I was talking to Shoots? Why I'll tear him... Easy Windy, easy man. He IS the host of the party, and I don't want to get thrown out on my flank, I might never get the chance to talk to Shoots again, and I'll be letting HIM have her... "Yes Shoots, I was just about to tell about my cutie mark. Its a really interesting story, actually. Maybe you'd like to hear it too Slide?"

The pony nodded, and Windy continued, "So I was about 5, and parents entered me into a contest, the Young Athlete's Event in Manehatten. I was supposed to demonstrate athletic prowess in a sport, and I was already very quick in the air for my age, so I would be doing flying. However, the day before the contest, I hurt my wing horsing around with one of the other contestants. So when it came time for me to demonstrate my prowess, I had nothing to show! So I looked around, and saw somepony had forgotten his shoes on the end of the field! I tried them on, and through they looked really weird. One of the other contestants then told me they were cleats, and that you use them to kick a soccer ball more accurately, since kicking with our bare hooves isn't very accurate. So he tossed me a ball, and the moment I caught it, something felt right. I wound up, and booted that thing for all it was worth. I wound up breaking one of the windows on the judge's quarters, which were very far away, and right then, this cutie mark appeared, showing me my future lay not in racing in the air, but on the pitch. I went on to win the contest, and I've been playing soccer ever since!"

Shoots turned to her host Slide Grease and stepped in close to him, until the white curls from her mane were practically brushing his withers. She didn't really want Windy to here was she was saying.

"So hey, 'cute colt',"  she said, laughing like chimes at her own joke. "Can I borrow your lawn decorations for a few minutes? The heart ones?"  She tilted her head to the side and made what she hoped was a very polite pleading face. "You wouldn't mind, would you?"

((I mean, finals are barely a month away now. I don't have as much time to donate to this stuff as I'd like. Sorry!))

((Its all good))

Ocean nodded, still smiling. "I have seen you around before...I am usually reading, making potions or swimming." She said, not really thinking about why Cascade never would have seen her in the water...which was a little silly of her considering she thought about that Every Day.

Cascade merely gave Ocean a look of bemusement. "You have? I don't think I've ever actually seen you around, and especially never swimming. And I'm pretty sure I'd have seen you in the lake."

Ocean's eyes widened slightly. *Oh buck I cant believe I said that.* She thought, searching for something to say.

After a moment she blurted out the first thing that came to mind. "Um...I only swim at night...under the star's and stuff...its really pretty...and stuff." She said.

Flame trotted over to the couch and looked around at the room...it was rather funny...he would swear that there was the same amount of mares as there were stallions...as if somepony had set it all up.

Flame sighed and glanced over at the door...just as a rather cute mare stepped through.

As usual...he looked away like he had never noticed...he was never good at talking to pretty mares...

Cascade's eyes narrowed for the slightest moment, in plain disbelief, but after a moment, seemed to buy her excuse. "Huh. I've not seen you when I'm out at night, either, but I suppose that's just luck of the draw, eh?" She shrugged, and took to looking about the house again.

Storming Star woke up from an involuntary nap abruptly, the sad shy face replaced with a tired and angry face. He knew he hadn't slept long because the sun was still setting and same quiet sound was still being produced by the cute decorated house. This was no place to be, out on a grey cloud moping and whining. He was the one who didn't approach anyone, it was his fault. Had the walls been grey he could have easily passed for one. He didn't sigh or cough, Storm smiled confidently and laughed at an average volume to himself. It was him the whole time. His fault. He still had a chance then. After another moment perched on the cloud, he made his decision. He dove down to the path leading to the house swiftly and... gracefully? He looked fierce, he was fast. Best of all, his nose didn't hurt after he landed. His hooves were planted firmly into the dirt and the smile was still present. His tired eyes drooped to about halfway over his irises, which made him seem laid back when combined with his actual smile. He remembered some social advice from Canterlot, "Always carry yourself proudly. It's better to make a poor first impression than none at all."
Taking the advice obviously too literally, Storming glided through the door and landed at a wall, slouching calmly against it and brushing his mane. He was only still smiling because he was... well, smiling. It was all pretty exciting. His eyes now searched the room and he walked back over to the snack tablet, taking a bit of food and then resuming his confident act next to it.

She trotted away from the completely bewildered mare, the brilliant red fading to just around her cheekbones, slipped beside a confident colt at the snack table, scanning it merely to distract herself.

"Cool!" Shoots popped one more candy between her molars. "I'm Shooting Star. I'd love to hear your cutie mark story sometime. But there's a little something I wanna' do first."

This Hearts and Hooves day was a great thing. When did all the stallions get so nice? She'd have to start balancing her attention at this rate.

She turned to make sure Windy Runner was still there. "Wait for me just a couple seconds? I'll meet up with you next to the pool."

Storm had his eyes closed almost all the way as he sipped some punch from a glass he had filled, but he was alert enough to notice another pony pass by him. No, not by him. She was next to him. He thought that if he wanted a chance with anyone he should act now. The mare was a yellowish color with a blue mane that looked like flowing water. He almost hesitated, as she looked nervous, but only a second or so of his shy face appeared before he relaxed. "So, enjoying the party?" It wasn't a very personal question and was simple enough, it would at least get her attention. Storm felt bad after seeing Heather walking shyly about as he had been earlier, but he couldn't worry about that. He had to stay calm and cool. Not like he planned to spend time with this mare anyway, he was just being... friendly? Yea, that was it.

"This will show him whose the coolest stallion at this party!" Windy's wings had long been a source of his pride, and he planned to put them to good use. Shoots yipped as a sudden gust of wind flattened her bows against her back. In between beats of cool air, she widened her eyes.

Windy Runner had undergone a little transformation while she'd been turned around. His hooves dug deep circles into the carpet; she watched the muscles in his shoulders clench and unclench. The fur across his chest was long-cut, almost shaggy, in a way Shoots wasn't used to seeing; it seemed to be the going style among Ponyville stallions, and it lent a certain mysterious...flowing look to his coat.

And then there were those wings.

At full extension they practically covered the snack table. Shoots knew, intellectually, that somepony would need pretty big wings to carry themselves if birds needed wings that were almost twice the size of their body, but...seeing them in person was a different experience. She couldn't have told at all when Runner's wings had been tucked against his flanks. They'd been so folded up.

Now each feather shifted individually as it clove through the air. Light from the skylight filtered through from the back of his wings, like late morning glow through windowblinds where the edges of his flight pinions parted. A couple inches inward from there, parting barbs split the light into a multi-chromatic halo with sparkles of green and red.

They looked so soft, and yet they just about blew Shooting Star off her hooves.

Not according to plan. But this works.

She sat on her rump between the two stallions, contentedly memorizing Windy Runner's wings. If she'd known what her rapt attention looked like to anypony who happened to watch the ferocious vignette, she would have bolted from the room without a second glance.

But the spell didn't last that long--only until, with a halfhearted wobble, a small tower of boston cream-filled pastries took flight from the table and, lacking knowledge of the basics of high-turbulence flight, landed in a wide crash zone on Shooting Star.

Slide watched as Windy just randomly flapped his wings, and Slide was blocked from the snack table. "Colt, what's your problem. If you need to flap your wings, please go outside. The last thing I need is punch stained all over my house. And guess which lucky stallion would get to clean it with no pay as I watched them do it?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.

He then turned. "Oh, Shooting Star, welcome back. Sorry for our little interuption, our friend here wanted to play "How much can I stretch my wings in a condensed space without breaking something?" Luckily, I'm an Earth Pony, and therefore do not have to partake in this silly game of his."

Storming Star wasn't completely surprised someone saw through him. His smile faded and his wings tightened, folding at his sides again. He didn't have any more food. "I guess I can't even s-seem calm if I try..." His chin fell, but rose again soon after. "So what's going on? I thought I saw you by the pool talking with... somepony else." As stealthily as he could, Storm refilled his punch glass and chugged it down quickly, sighing at the empty satisfaction of the drink. "Not to be intrusive."
