"Well then, what are we waiting for?" Max finally succumbed to his eagerness, stepping off his chair, taking a few steps back, and taking off. He made an arc in the sky, and dove into the water, just past the dock. The water was still very warm, not unlike a hot tub. He surfaced, looking back at the patio that he had sat at not 6 seconds ago. 

"Coming?" Max called after Star, still sitting at the table.

"Well...admit it, This vest makes me incredibly sexy." He joked, chuckling and eating some of his salad. "In all seriousness...I dunno, it's just...sentimental, It gives me confidence whenever I step out to perform. Plus...I just kinda like it." He said, smiling.

Accent was unintentionally rolling her eyes at Beat's little joke. She was actually starting to like him. Not as "like" like, but as a okay friend. She had to play a bit with her mane before speaking back to him.

 

"It kinda sounds like the same thing with my mane... Other than doing rock concerts, or any kind of techno stuff, I always have my mane extremely tidy. It was usually strict dress for a orchestra player. Well, one day when I was in Sydneigh, for a huge concert, a squirrel had managed to get into my mane, and well... It was ruined. And a few hours before the concert as well. So, I was royally bucked at that point. And, I couldn't participate in the concert. What a good waste... Though, later on, I started to get used to this, and now this is just my regular mane style."

Star giggled and walked over to the beach. But instead of diving in like Max, she slowly waded out, stopping here and there to get used to it until she was just a couple feet away from Max, treading water. "The water is beautiful here...its so clear." She said, smiling and looking down at the sandy bottom.

Beat smiled. "I have no idea how a squirrel would manage to mess up a mane as pretty as yours...but I do agree, its just...how we like it. No reason, its just how it goes." He said, sipping his drink and glancing out at two ponies swimming around in the water.

Max looked down into the water. It was crystal clear. He dove down, swimming along the sandy surface, using his wings for extra push. He saw something shiny, and upon closer examination, he saw it to be a pearl. A flawless pearl. He would have inspected it more, but his need of air took over. Reaching the surface, taking a large breath, he swam over to Star.

"Look *pant* what I *pant* found." Max held it in his wing, extending it to Star to see.

Beat's eyes widened. "Ten thousand ? I would pay twenty thousand." He said, grinning and finishing his sandwich before moving onto his salad.

"Yeah, it was buried down in the sand. Only the top was poking out." Max looked at the pearl. He had no idea what to do with it. He was about to drop it back into the water, but then...

"It's pretty, but I don't need it. Perhaps you might find better use out of it?" He ask sheepishly, extending his wing out, the pearl resting on atop it, open for Star to take. Max was glad it was dark, as he hoped the shroud of night might cover his flushed face.

Star's eyes widened. "R-Really ? I don't know what to say Max...its beautiful." She gently picked the pearl up with her wings. "That's so sweet of you Max." She said. She looked at him for a few moments before she turned a bright red and kissed him on the cheek. Still blushing, she swam back to shore and placed the pearl on a rock by the path leading up to the house so she could get it later and not have to worry about it when she was swimming.

Max was glad to hear that she liked it. He liked it even more when she demonstrated her gratitude with a kiss to the cheek. His face went from red tint to Big Mac red. He brought a hoof up, touching the spot he was kissed. He felt like his heart melted in his chest from the warmth he was feeling. Eventually he snapped from his wide eyed trance just in time for Star to swim back. He faked a cough, trying to sound proper, but his voice was wavering a bit.

"Yes, well you are quite welcome, Star. I'm glad you enjoy it." His previous urge to do underwater aerobics was gone. Replaced with the need to just lay back, take it easy, let everything soak in. He floated on his back, gently propelling forward with his wings.

"This...is relaxing." He said in a mellow tone, the proper act he put up melted away by the warmth.

Star copied his movements and lay back, using her wings to keep herself supported.
She paddled over to Max so they were next to each other and pointed up at the stars. "My dad Amani can name every constellation in the sky...in both English and Zebrecan. He has taught me a few but I don't know them all." She said, letting her hoof fall back into the water.

"That is impressive. Benefits of being of both pony and zebra origin, I suppose." Max let out a soft chuckle.

"It's funny. In all my life, I have never once just looked up into the night sky. I cant believe what I have been missing." He marveled at it. All the stars, some big some small, and the full moon that cast a dim light on the island. It was breathtaking for Max. He let his own hooves fall into the water, and one brushed against Stars hoof. He was too relaxed to notice...or care.

Star smiled. "Yea. My mum always asked my dad why he was teaching me how to speak Zebracan...I would never really need it but he insisted on it. And the one other time I have had to use it was a while ago...and the zebra's I met all spoke English so...there was no need." She said, blushing slightly as Max's hoof brushed against her own. Instead of pulling her hoof away, she slowly took Max's hoof in her own.

This time, Max did notice that he was holding hooves with Star now. But like before, he didn't care, and actually enjoyed it. He was in a state of mind where everything felt perfect. There wasn't much that could ruin this moment. He turned his head to look at Star., looking straight into her turquoise eyes, heart racing a mile a minute but remaining calm. He thanked the ocean waves and the light sound they made, as it covered the sound of his own heart rate.

"Beautiful." He spoke softly. He caught himself, and tried to recover.

"The stars. They are beautiful." He didn't raise his voice, just the speed of his words. His blush was returning, and he had the urge to look away to cover his face, he couldn't tear his gaze from Star's eyes.

Accent nearly shook her head at that, laughing softly to herself. This caused her mane to get a bit into her face, and she blew up on it, finally getting out of her eyes and facial area.

 

"Please, my mane isn't THAT popular... I bet it would never get that way.", she said.

Star looked away from the stars to look at Max. She giggled and nodded. "Yea...they really are pretty." She said, not looking at the sky. She found herself lost in his beautiful sparkling eyes and had the sudden urge to kiss him...but refrained from it, she didn't want to make things awkward.

Max looked into her eyes, lost. He found himself slowly moving closer.
"What are you doing? Stop! It's too soon!"

He continued to drift closer, her face...that beautiful face coming into focus.
"Your going to blow it! Stop before its too late! Get out of there!"

Soon, their muzzles were only a few inches apart. He could feel her warm breath on his face.

"Are...are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Max asked in the softest tone he could summon. Never once has he broken eye contact. He couldn't. Ever fiber of his being wanted to close the gap. But he had to be sure that this was what she wanted.

"I work at a little shop I own, fixing things like clocks and stuff like that. I've always like that, so, you know what they say... Make money from what you like doing. And I do that."

He chuckled, and leaned back.

"What do you do, if you don't mind my returning the question?"

Scamps looked over at Lorcan. "Yeah, I ate like a pig. You would too, if you had flown all the way from Ponyville with a suitcase on your back." She smiled at the end, hoping that would let him know it was a joke.

 

She turned back to Nightfall. "I'm a magician. Like, sleigh-of-hoof and entertainment magic, not unicorn magic. Ponies get a kick out of it and just seem to love my shows for some reason."

 

She looked outside and saw a few ponies out there. "Do you want to head outside while it's still nice out?" She leaned back in her chair to look at Lorcan. "What about you? You coming?"

Star's heartbeat got faster and faster as he moved closer and closer until they were only inches away. "OH MY GOD HE'S SO CLOSE EEEEEEE- Star...play it cool, just say somethi-" Her thought was cut off as he spoke.

She nodded. "I...I think so." She said, turning a bright shade of red.

Part if Max's mind was still rebelling at the sudden romantic flood overcoming him. When she spoke, her very words felt angelic, and confirmed his hopes. The last defenses crumbled as he closed the gap, gently-but passionately-kissing Star on the lips. He eyes drooped shut, and he simply enjoyed it. This day was literally flawless. Best day of his life.

Star instantly closed her eyes and placed her forelegs around Max. All night she had been waiting for this moment, and now it was finally happening. She sighed through her nose and stroked the back of Max's neck, gently playing with his mane as she did so. This moment was perfect.

Max, now treading upright with his wings, wrapped his forelegs around Stars neck. He felt her strikes on his neck, feeling his mane get twirled about. He held her close, taking in the incalculable greatness of this moment. He finally broke the kiss, again looking straight into her eyes. He opened his mouth to speak, but his mind had yet to process words together. He finally choked out:

"I, uh, this is...Am I dreaming?" Max felt like he had just kissed an angel, and inside he felt a burning warmth like no other. He continued to hold the mare in front of him, giving enough room for them to face each other.

"This is really one of the best times I've ever had. This is one of the best places I've been to. Some might even call this place romantic."

He kept his eyes closed, still smiling.

Another eye roll came from Accent. When will he ever stop? Was he actually falling for her? Those were the only thoughts that ran through her mind as she finished up her food and looked out towards the setting sun. Maybe they won't have enough time to record tonight...

 

"Hey, Beat. If we're gonna record, we better head back and do it now. It's gonna be too late pretty soon."
