Good thing Max was eye level with Star in terms of height. He turned to her, putting a hoof an her shoulder.

"Listen to me Star." He carried a soft, caring tone in his voice.

"I brought unstable potions to an island then put them into flasks. Flasks that once contained alcohol. It is my fault and I love you too much to let you take the fall for this. I couldn't sleep at night knowing you paid for my mistake. Please, spare yourself the grief." He gave her a brief hug before turning back to Lorcan, awaiting his punishment.

Lorcan was conflicted. On the one hoof he was angry that the guests HE showed nothing but respect and kindness to, ruined his home. On the other hoof he was relieved that no one got hurt any worse then they did. Seeing Star as a dragon tested his anger management. A test that he was soon to fail.

"Alright! Both of you...wait outside! I don't want to hear another word from you I s*** you not!" Lorcan boomed. His angered state made him puff his cigar more rapidly.

"I will call for you when I reach a decision!"

Beat laughed. "That w-was pretty...p-pretty fun. But...really weird." She giggled and moved closer to Accent, snuggling up close to him.

Like before, Star seemed to shrink as Lorcan yelled. She nodded and quickly turned around.
She walked down the hall...but the second she turned the corner she leaned against the wall...unsure what to do.

Max turned and walked out with Star, but in the doorway, he turned around. He had a guilty look on his face. His carelessness caused so much havoc and it was killing him.

"For what it's worth, I'm sorry." He said solemnly, walking out into the hall. He stood on his hind legs and leaned against the wall, slipping down it until he was sitting down next to the dragoness. He couldn't take his eyes off the floor. He felt like everything here was his fault: Star's transformation, Beat and Accent's sex change, everything. 

"Celestia-damnit, why cant I do anything right?" He said in a low, miserable tone. Instead of getting angry, he got depressed. Which is worse for him, but at least it doesn't hurt anypony else...except Star, who was likely feeling upset. Now he was hurting his marefriend.

"I am sorry Star. I have bucked everything up. Hmph, some coltfriend I turned out to be." His eyes were still glued to the floor, and if you look closely, one would swear he was holding back a tear or two. Not very tough, but he wasn't exactly feeling high and mighty.

Scamps could hear voices on the other side of the door, but nopony had opened it up yet. She looked back at Nightfall, a worried look on her face. "I hope they're okay. Maybe they'r ejust discussing Accent and Beat's...problem." She knocked on Lorcan's door again, louder this time.

 

"Hey!" She called. "Anypony there? Let us in, please!"

"Problem..? Did I- er, did we sleep through something?"

 

Although something had happened and yelling was involved, Solara opened the door for the two of them.

"Oh. Hello. What is it that you two want? Lorcan isn't too pleased at the moment, and if you broke something, now might not be the best time to admit it..."

"No, no. It's just...I saw what happenned to Accent and Beat a few hours ago, and, considering how Lorcan looks, something tells me that there are more things that are wrong. We just wanted to see what was going on. And possibly help fix it."

 

She then noticed a dragon in the room, and she began to back away a few steps. But, seeing as the dragon was talking with others, she assummed it was friendly. She then turned back to Nightfall. "I'll explain it later. Or somepo y else, because I actually don't really understand it much."

"Please just leave me be with Solara for a few moments. Thats all i ask of you guests." He said with annoyance in his voice.

Star sighed, blue fire puffed from her nose as she looked at Max. "Max." She said, seriously. "This is not your fault. Stop thinking it is because it really isn't. I drank the potion. This was me. I should have been smarter. I made a stupid decision and this is my punishment. I deserve it. Now please stop putting yourself down." She said, getting back up onto her feet. "Come on. Lorcan told us to wait outside. Lets fix this together." She said, holding out a claw to help Max up to his hooves.

Max looked at the claw being offered. This whole situation, Stars reaction, everything, it made him love her so much. More than ever before. He took the claw, getting to his hooves before giving her a weak smile.

"I love you, and I never get tired of saying that. You are by far the greatest pony/dragon I have ever met." He said warmly. He would be content spending every day with her. Then the gears starting turning in his head, recalling that Lorcan was getting married. If they can act that quickly...No, that is too fast. He risks pushing her away. Still....He shelved the thought for now.

"Let's do it." He said, smile not fading.

Star smiled. "I love you more." She said, jokingly sticking out her long lizard tongue.

Still holding his hoof, She led Max down the hall towards the kitchen. She gave him a quizzical look after he spoke. "Lets do what ?" She asked, walking down the stairs leading into the kitchen where she stopped to give Max a minute to reply

As they walked, Max's mind was in a haze. The gears in his head turning, the thoughts rushing by. He simply allowed himself to be lead as they walked. He heard a question, and after about 6 seconds it processed. He didn't have an answer. So he did what anypony would do. Go to Plan B...S.

"Lets eat. Last meal we will probably get on this island." He said distantly, his mind still in haze. He was essentially working on auto-pilot. Many jumbled, unorganized thoughts rushed through the depths of his mind.

 

                  What is Lorcan going to do?                                                                                             What if Star smells meat again?

                                                                         Where do I get a cutie mark earring around here?                               

                                   How do I stop Beat?

                                                                                                                 What happens if I lose my temper again?

              Who was that mare that arrived randomly?

 

He managed to keep a neutral look on his face, so as not to look like a zombie. But he did have a look in his eyes that looked distant and busy at the same time.

Lorcan was calming down but the fact that the the two guests destroyed his property still lingered with him.

"I guess i can think of a punishment fitting of their crime towards me." He said as he let out a sigh.

"I will be going to them now. You can wait here or join me. Maybe jump in if i get to angry." He said as he stretched his wings.

Star frowned. "Um...Max...are you okay ?" She asked, waving a claw in front of his face. "And I am actually kinda hungry again...but Lorcan said to wait outside. I don't want to cause more trouble by eating his food as well." She said, walking out onto the deck outside the kitchen. She sat down with her legs hanging over the side and rested her head in her claw's, staring down at the ground. "I really bucked up, Max." She said, kicking a small rock, sending it rolling under a small bush.

Max followed Star on auto pilot to the deck. When she spoke of bucking up, that statement was enough to clearly the haze in a hurry. Brought back to his sense, he was about to make the "its not your fault its mine" argument when he realized how futile it would be. That's when he sat down next to her, hind legs draping down. He put a foreleg around her.

"We both bucked up. And we will both fix this mess. Together." He said warmly, looking ever to her with an equally warm expression.

Lorcan walked down the stairs figuring Solara could join him if she wanted to.

"Max..Star...Front and center!" Lorcan called out trying to keep his anger at bay.

"I went over the story you told in my head and first I want to say bringing potions was a stupid idea, Max. You should have thought of the possible situations that could have happened!" Lorcan said as he turned his attention to Star.

"You should have double checked to make sure it was the right potion."

Star nodded at Max but didn't smile...she was scared. She hated making other ponies angry and it was quite obvious Lorcan was angry...he had reason.
She quickly stood up as Lorcan came out onto the deck. She frowned slightly as he spoke. "Um...in my defense. The potion was in a rum bottle...I thought there was some left so I finished it off...but I was wrong." She said, quietly, rubbing her claw's together nervously.

Max watched the discomfort-or fearful-demeanor in the presence of a very agitated Lorcan. The sub-dragon nature he held was crying out to punish his love, but he managed to quell that fairly easily. He was still rather irritated, even if their host had every right to be furious. 

"I am aware of that Lorcan. I should of checked to see it was just medicinal potions in that case. It was careless, and I apologize." He glanced at Star, her fear bringing the green Pegasus a mix of sorrow and anger.

"And Star is right, the potion was transferred by me to several flasks for easier storage. I hadn't anticipated others coming in and using them. But Star cant be blamed for the confusion." He added one more thing.

"Please, let me take the brunt of this. I hate seeing my marefriend like this." He said nobly. Be it his kindness or his "dragon" code of honor, he felt compelled to take the fall for the dragoness.

Star shuffled her feet slightly as Max talked about her...their...dragon problem. "Lorcan. Max feel's like this is his fault...its not. Its mostly mine fore being careless. I will pay for any damage and fix anything that needs to be fixed...I will even work for you for free if it means you will accept our apology." She said, stepping forwards.

Lorcan sighed with annoyance and shook his head. 

"Alright that enough talking from you two!" Lorcan shouted.

"You two want to make it up? Good cause you are, believe you me. First i am going to send for some supplies for the parts you destroyed.Then we are rebuilding it...no magic either...just good old fashion muscle!" Lorcan was still a little angry but tried to calm himself down as he thought of his future with Solara.

i shall also send for a nice diamond ring for Solara...she deserves nothing but the best.

The thought of Star expending so many bits, laboring away for the chaos that has transpired here...Deep within him, the gene of draconic origin cried out, stepping up and assuming control. It would not allow its mate to suffer like this. Dragons are protective creatures. Protective of their wealth, material or otherwise. A voice, deep and gravelly, but at the same level as his previous tone, came from his throat, and Max's eyes formed slits for pupils as he stood up to stand next to Star.

"No. This will not stand. My mate is one of pure heart and intentions. Malicious words never escape her mouth, only those of kindness come forth. If she must work, let her relay supplies and equipment. We shall handle the manual labor." Max said in a bold voice. Almost as quickly as it came, the gene retreated, having its say. Max's eyes returned to normal, and he donned a look of astonishment and confusion.

"What the hell..."

Star was about to speak but Max beat her to it. She sighed slightly and put a hoof on his shoulder. "Max. Hey...you just kinda...never mind. Its okay Lorcan, I will fix anything and everything we broke. What happened was stupid and you have every right to be angry. I am surprised  you are letting us be here a moment longer. Thank you. I will fix this." She said.

Max thought for a moment, then remembered what he said...in dragon mode. And he realized that he agreed 100%.

"Star...I still think that. You can move faster, so you could handle the supplies. Let me and Lorcan fix what we broke. As for the material cost, we will split it. No sense in you going broke for this. It is clear we are both too stubborn to let up on this so we will split it evenly. Even if you don't deserve any of it." Max grumbled that last part in a deep tone. Max was not rich, by any means, but he made well, enough to live in a nice two story cottage back at Ponyville. If it came down to it, he could cover the damages. He would just have to work overtime for a while. But he said it would be split, and he was going to see it through.

"So Lorcan, how much will it be for...a new dresser, some scorch removal, buff out for the floors..." He came in and whispered this to Lorcan.

"and maybe an earring in the likeness of my cutiemark? Just throwing it out there." Max wasn't planning anything...yet. But he figured it was always best to be prepared. Just in case.

"You two wanted to check up? Here. I'll see if I can tell you something about what is happening."

 

Nightfall turned around, looked at Windy, and moved to the room a bit.

"You still want to do this, Windy? He muttered.

"Let me think...The dresser was part of an elegant set imported from overseas. That's valued at one hundred thousand bits. The floors i built myself, so you and I are going to rebuild them. The supplies should not be more than five hundred bits. Anything else that was part of the house, meaning attached to the whole house, will be rebuilt with the supplies I will have to buy." Lorcan explained as he scratched his scar.

"I don't expect you to pay for all of it;just some of it. Oh and for THAT Max, it depends on the quality. for the nicest one i estimate about two thousand....five hundred bits." He said.
